Driving along one day in my '07 Escalade when suddenly, dead ! Middle Lane…..was able to steer to Right lane. No flashers, no power at all ! ( Just had a new battery installed at a popular auto parts store ). Well, the guy didn't tighten the Negative terminal. I didn't know that a car wouldn't run if the battery craps out. I thought the alternator was supposed to keep it going to at least allow you to have signals or flashers. Nope.
So, someone loosened the battery terminal connector when jump starting it? Why? Otherwise, after only 11,000 miles why is that connector loose? Vibrations? Another mystery…
Why doesn't customers take these newer vehicles that are still under factory warranty to the dealer? Wouldn't they have to pay out of pocket if they were to bring it to a non Ford dealer for service?
There should be a big scoreboard on the back wall or somewhere customers can see it. Why Your Car Doesn't Start, or Battery Goes Dead, or Engine Just Quits Running: 1. Loose Battery Connection 2. Corroded Battery Connection 3. Even Looser Battery Connection 4. Improper Check of Battery Connection 5. Old Dead Battery 6. Even Older Deader Battery 7. Failing to Check if Battery is Old and Dead 8. Blaming Alternator when it is really a Bad Connection or Dead Battery 9. Replacing the Alternator instead of fixing a Bad Connection or Dead Battery 10. Failing to Securely Re-Connect Alternator Electrical Connections
i just helped some young guys at a gas station trying to jump there truck, they were using a Kmart special jumper cables that cheap crap, and as i was waiting for the pump asked them if they needed help, of course watching them for 5 minutes getting no where, they said yes and i grabbed my jump starter and in about two minutes or less they were running and as i was putting the jump pack away they left, never gave me a chance to ask them why or how the truck did not start back up after turning it off just to pump gas, so i guess they will get stuck again very soon, they saw 12 volts on my jump pack and thought there battery had 12 volts hahahaha the dumb young guys did not know the jumper cables are still on the battery hahaha that i how smart they are, they know nothing
Hey, Ray, if your wrench had touched the body while tightening the positive terminal, it would have majorly shorted and melted the wrench, if not exploded the battery in your face. Next time, use a thick dry rag to keep your wrench from touching any other metal part.
oh brother have you ever had your hands on a 10mm tubular box wrench, its even more specialized to do battery terminals. the battery cover even had a cutout made for it it seems.
Nice approach. You see the aftermarket wires and go right to the thing they had a wrench to take apart, but not to fully reassemble. So began their mystery. Tighten the loose connection, and rooby rooby roo !
Ray did you ever find out what aftermarket electrical item was connected to the positive terminal? Not that it caused the problem, but it looked like a poor aftermarket installation did that with the loose clamp and whatnot.
ive been working as a tech here in Florida for three months now, and this is a common thing.. almost every "ded battery", NCNS, or faulty comm code the batter terminals are loose.. lol
Expensive fix for rookie error.
Sir that will bee 500.00 dollars with bay rental and shop rags! Lmao.

Yup, that’s the way the crumble cookies, never overlook the obvious!

You mean that I have to be smarter than a battery post?
Please stop with the "Click" every time. It is very annoying
I keep seeing this on your videos, never knew it could be a thing!

The first “click” and “I win” of the channel!!!!
FYI.. Opening the hood and checking the basics doesn't void your warranty.
10 mm wrench? What is that? It is like a Unicorn… never seen……
Would think this truck is still under warranty?
I love the way the speedo's in some cars in these max out when the engine starts- if mine did that I'd probably need a new brake pedal daily🤔
At least they were clean terminals LOL

Some people should not own cars. I'm a retired mechanic you should see what i eye saw in the "good old days" cheers.

The Speedometer stated Engine hours , Do these types of vehicles measure engine hours as well as milage on the whole vehicle?
You can't cure a stupid.
Something that simple y'all. Always check your battery terminal first
Only saw you check one battery connection
ROFL…. I had the same problem with a 68 Chevy Camaro that I used to own
Thinking someone loosened it to keep from working?
i thought metric was banned in the states . I would have though it would have been 3/8

Wow, that was an abrupt ending???
I LOVE the click!
I got "tho ekthited" when I saw the dash lights disappear and said "Check the battery connections…" LOL
Mine was loose as well, no matter how much I tighten it. So I slipped on those metal post sleeves and now it's tight as heck
That truck should be under warranty
Start your own shop, you can make a living off these people…
The funny part of this is that the customer is a tradesman, one that I would never hire what an idiot.
It's always very satisfying when you hit that torque click.
I'm impressed you torque the battery clamp nut. Me I just do the wiggle test, tightn the F out of it til the clamp doesn't wiggle… shims? Yes please!
Got Mechanic Coming GM going downhill
would there have been another way to fix it without clearing the codes?
ive been working as a tech here in Florida for three months now, and this is a common thing.. almost every "ded battery", NCNS, or faulty comm code the batter terminals are loose.. lol
Yup, The more they over think the plumbing, the easier to stop up the drain. 😜
No more lights or trouble codes? don't worry, it's a GM shouldn't be long now…
heavy, nasty crunch guitar
CLICK, CLICK, BOOM!
I'm wondering why it didn't start after you tighten it?
I remember doing same work, only to smell, find a loaded diaper under the seat, declared it a hazard situation, and refused to work on it……
I love the attitude after fixing an expensive sounding problem with a few turns of the wrench, and I totally agree. "Yup, I win."
I love the Human Torque Wrench sound effect.
Who ever installed that after market thing, needs a good slap for not tightening the clamp.
