Back to Pt 1: BAD Car Karma! Botched Job Recovery! Jeep Wrangler 3.6 Pentastar https://youtu.be/W1pif3Wh8lI
Today we have a Jeep Wrangler Sahara with the 3.6 Pentastar engine. The customer states engine oil is leaking and it is a large leak. We placed the jeep in service mode and began the inspection. It was found that engine oil was leaking off of the valve covers, after lifting the jeep, we found more oil on the back side of the engine and on the transmission. The intake manifold was removed and then the lower intake manifold was removed. Engine oil was found pooling up in the valley between the cylinder heads. The oil cooler assembly was then removed and inspected for leak sources. The o rings were found to be deformed and leaking engine oil. This video is part two which features the installation of a Dorman Oil Cooler Assembly as well as valve cover gaskets, PCV fittings and a replacement lower intake manifold.

Sir: Editing flubs (done by others) do not change the information we receive , the interest in the project or the process. It is no big deal.

OK, fine! Apology accepted…
I hope the nit pickers spend hours and hours going over your videos frame by frame and word by word.
Great catch for Dave! He caught a 10 MM wobbly attempting to escape. Achievement earned!
Best one-handed mechanic out there! 🙂🙃🙂🙃
You need to stop throwing cans at poor dave ! He's going to demand hazard pay and body armor if you don't stop!
How do you charge out the spare parts you have laying around? do you charge as new with a discount, or do you make up your own price, or do you even charge at all? I would assume you would want to get some kind of parts value out of it, but it's also not like the customer is buying a brand new part…
It’s all good, don’t worry!👍👍👍👍
REEEEEE AMSOIL!!!! AMSOIL IS AWESOMESAUCE!!!!!! REEEEE!!!!, 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Pennzoil Ultra Platinum > Mobil 1
Oil geeks is a great channel about oil types.
It's always a great day when Mahle-brand gaskets are used in an engine repair. Our shop lost confidence in Felpro, we've had too many defects from cheaply made gaskets.
Enjoy your videos. Non believers can subscribe, or donate money so you can hire video perfectionist for state of the art videos 😂
Keep the water away from the TIPCM
Gotta use dorman or mopar replacement cooler the eBay ones are crap
Funny how fuse/battery box thinggy took loke 25 min to remove but only 5 min to put back 😢
I have used vacuum plugs to cover alternator to battery cable studs.
REEEEE Really upset you didn't replace the rubber cover on the alternator connection! You could have eaisily traveled to the Amazon rain forest where you could find a rubber tree in just a few days searching. Once you have found a rubber tree, you find a patch of hardened sap, slice off the hardened exterior to obtain the soft, liquid sap underneath. Use a knife to slice off the excess layers of hardened sap.
Make a small hole where you've cut off the rough exterior, using a knife to assist in inserting a tapping spout.
Hang a bucket on the hook of the tapping spout and leave it in place until you have collected a reasonable amount of sap. If you fail to collect the sap on the first tap, repeat the entire process again.
Then find a Morning Glory plant. Extract the juice from the Morning Glory by simply breaking its vines and drawing the juice out.
Mix the sap obtained from the tree and the Morning Glory juice.
Using a wooden stick, stir the mixture. Stir until it becomes thick and sticky.
Then carve a mold from the wood of any coconut tree in the precise shape of the rubber cover you need for the alternator connection. Pour the uncured latex into the mold and wait until it cures. It may take a few attemps to get it right.
Why you allowed this blatant safety hazard to go undone is beyond me, when the fix is so simple. Have a great day!
That tape, is a sealant. Its the modern version of hemp. BUT, you only need just enough it seals, if you mean it to good, use to much of that band. It will not seal at all.
Plastic Jeeps used to be pink and were driven by little girls. I think I'll keep fixing my Cj7.
Ray, I don't see how that unit cools oil with either version. It is squished in to a completely sealed area where the airflow must be almost nothing. Seems to be an oil heater, causing components to deform and warp. No wonder Junkstar engines are so unreliable. Yet the uninformed public keeps buying the Chrysler Junk. Bad for the consumer, good for the mechanic that has to work on the C RAP. Good job Ray
I don't care what type of oil it is As long as it's 5w20 for my vehicle.
A job like this would cost how much Time wise ? I'm guessing about 8.5 hours to 10.5 hours. Or am I wrong?
Most oils are very good, just change oil every 3000 miles using non synthetic, 5000 miles with synthetic. What price do you wish to spend 😅
If you let the haters get to you, they will never stop.
I've been using wolf head motor oil for 110 years
I said it yesterday and again today RainMan you are a MASTER MECHANIC
As you get older you eventually learn in life that no matter what you say or do, or how you do things, there will always be someone who dislikes you. Life is too short to worry about haters and petty nonsense. None of those people would even know you exist if it weren't for YT and the internet. Nothing they say will change your life or how you do things so why worry about their crying Ray?
Aluminimum is the maximum top notch pinnacle level 🎉
Remember when we used to worry about aluminum heads warping? Now it's all plastic and we don't worry any more…LOL!
So there’s a difference in Pacific and Atlantic
514th! Fantastic HUMPDAY to you Ray and your lovely wife unit. Never forgotten are the new employees. Roger in Pierre South Dakota
Random comment:
Did you ever have any idea a year ago that a large part of us would have a morning watch, what will Raymond work on today?
22k viewers in 5 hours.
I think your gonna need a larger shop.
Yesterday's video was fine. No apology necessary.
Ray this is totally off topic! What is your opinion of the ford Coyote motors?
It is as though people have forgotten that we are all human. If I lived in Florida you’d be my mechanic hands down. Keep up the great work.
I'm starting to wonder if jeep dealerships can't retain good technicians.. I've had nothing but crap service at 2 different dealerships that couldn't fix an evap leak, I ended up fixing it while it's still under warranty.
The stud on my alternator has been uncovered for 10 years never had a problem
Troll’s are the price of doing business.🤷♂️
NGK IRIDIUM is what I install on MY JEEP
The edit wasn’t that bad. Though the skill set was on par and above
Blah blah fucking blah all these typewriter mechanics, let's see you post some work.
I'm such a shade tree mechanic after watching you working……
One day tho…you will find yourself at the point where you say:
"I give up, it's time to retire and start enjoying life again."
By that time sir, your children will be all grown up….your wife suddenly gets more purdy..lol
and you will still be doing stuff that most girls cannot do….and feel like a servant to her. haha
al n kat
if you're changing your synthetic oil at 5K miles, it doesn't matter what you use. buy the cheapest
But if not it will help reduce the mice and rat population 🤷♂️
Part 1 provided all the bits most of us watch Ray for. Getting triggered by oddities in the editing is peculiar at best.
And help the environment
Dear, Ray, I hope I didn't hurt your feelings or what. I really hope my comment was constructive.
As you explained, there was no intention at all, I was affraid you wanted to start a "new style". I'm glad, you are not. 😀
Apology totally accepted.
<3
So happy now it's fixed.
Finally enjoyable again 🙂 ♥
Were just fucking with you yesterday Ray. Love the videos brother. I drink my coffee too them daily
Exxon are denying responsibility for the cleanup.
Everybody knows Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is the best oil 🍿😁
Another excellent episode, Ray! No REEE from my end, this is first-class work. By the way, after seeing the performance of those plastic oil cooler manifolds, I couldn’t help noticing the plastic fuel rails. Not exactly confidence-inspiring.
Ray has a pentastar parts department 😅
Ok Ray do me a favor tighten the nut on the anti-freeze drum it will seal off the leak you’re getting on the pump rod it will save you a couple of bucks
The first time I saw you work on one of these engines, I thought "What a pain in the arse!".
But having seen more than one, I still think its a pain, but not nearly as frightening as I used to think.
So long as righty tightly doesn’t become righty looosey 😂
I don't know what's scarier, screwing steel sparkplugs into aluminum heads, or screwing steel screws into plastic engine parts.
What oil is best in my Tesla👹
530 area code is inland northeastern California — Lake Tahoe and North of Sacramento.
Was thinking of buying a jeep. Remind me not to buy one with a pentastar in it
Crazy ass small oil cooler, 'jammed' wherever it would fit.
For the offset bit holder you used behind the valve cover. Look into filling Harbor Freight's offset screwdriver / bit holder. Yes, I know we love to hate HF but the damn tool is only $3. It has a very handy knurled thumb knob on the back that was invaluable for me recently in a similar tight spot. I wouldn't have cared if it broke immediately after, it worked great for that tight space which was all i needed. Just mentioning this because I have the same tool you used and it was pretty useless for me because of the back drag.
Personally I've been nearly as impressed with your video and editing skills, especially concidering that you are doing a legitimate job at the same time and editing on your personal time.
I have said before that I would love to watch your filming and editing to figure out your tricks.
I've seen others that do the same thing, even some of the very well known youtubers and friends of yours and your filming and audio out do them.
I can see how hard it is to try and make any sort of tweak to your filming and editing on the fly and immediately posting them. That doesn't allow time for you to access your efforts, so the reeeee crowd does that for you.
Let's not "go to war" over folks commenting on the video issues. Most were probably just commenting so that any issues could be resolved so GET OVER IT!
Interesting? I watched it on Youtube yesterday morning and it was fine. Something must have happened to corrupt the upload later on after I watched it, I would guess?
Nooooooooo! You failed to do the brake clean sound!
Plastic does not belong on engine parts😡
Things happen to all of us one way or another and no fault of your own ,thanks for the very honest and interesting Video
Ray, it was just a Glitch No Worries the World should be Capable of Adjusting or Maybe not.
Dave for the Win with the 10mm. !!!
I have a question. How do manufacturers determine the amount of torque needed to tighten down a nut or bolt? I see you 'mock clicking' and 'actual clicking', but I don't quite understand why you have to do it down to a specific measurement. Also, watching you as often as I do, I found myself using brake clean to clean off a component last week (under my truck). I ran out. I threw the can across my carport and screamed 'ANOTHER!!!" Needless to say I didn't have anymore. Either way, that's a bad habit to have. I think I'll keep it.
I thought it was my internet playing up🤣
You’re only human so don’t put yourself down.
Ray, it’s not your fault…it’s not your fault…it’s not your fault…it’s not your fault.😢
Mobile One uses bigger dinosaurs than Amsoil.
I looked into Amsoil for my 2019 VW Arteon (purchased new) but according to the Amsoil web site, their oil does not meet the VW spec required. I'm using Motul 5w/40 in it now. I used Mobil1 0w/40 in my 2011 Saab NG9-5T4 (purchased new) with no issues after 150K miles. I also had a 1986 Saab 900 (purchased new) for 15 years of ownership and used Castrol GTX 10w/30 standard motor oil and changed it every 2K miles. At the 150K mileage mark when they adjust the cam clearances, the engine looked brand new with zero sludge anywhere. Another great video Ray!
Passenger side cam and caps looks alot darker than driver side. I wonder if that side is heating up and melting those gaskets.
I wonder how many viewers tune in just to look for something to bitch and moan about………..
I am not one of them. Your running commentary about how and why you are doing some task is great for anyone willing to learn.
There was a spark of humor
At least throw a rag over them intake ports man
I don't know who told you that Teflon tape is not a sealant. it certainly is a sealant. I will go up against anyone who claims technology is not a sealant. Next thing you'll say that o-rings are not seals.
Ray,
I enjoy your videos and the way you explain why you feel that many of the problems are lack of knowledge of how to replace the seals. There are shade tree parts changers out there.
I will stick with my old school "1961" F100 with no electronics just points, condenser and coil. Starts every time. You do well in your shop with the help of a good wife.
Ray, it’s your shop so it gets done your way!
Not for nothing but where was the Wife Units mandatory appearance????
That’s ridiculous for it to have that many problems and it being eight years old. I guess that’s why I love the 4.0 tractor engine in my 1997 TJ.
Most the teflon tape I see is also labelled thread sealing tape, PTFE.
Plastic threads ?????
1. check engine light was probably the PCV hose unplugged
2. TPS sensor batteries are probably dead, they are not replaceable and sensor units are extremely expensive on Jeeps (it's a jeep thing)
3. No mandatory wife unit appearance.
Teflon thread filler seals it off , good choice aluminum replacement parts 👊
Good job on the editing but I think we're just covering up all the curse words. I know I would have been saying no😊
You can put a piece of vacuum line on a alternator
One break, coming up…….now get back at it
…now, if you had forgotten the mandatory Lauren cameo, then "Houston (or Tampa area), we have a problem!!!" 😉
No matter what you do, someone's gonna bitch. Unless they're extremely successful at what YOU do, with their evidence, it's all about hatred. Some folks love controversy and spread hate and discontent. Think of it as "just a collection of words". 😉 Keep up the "fantastic" work.
I do like your Pinky & Perky voice lol😂
previous video was just fine..Ray. Sh@t happens..F@ck trolls. Long time viewers like myself like a little variety with my cocoa 🙂
Ray, I have been editing video since the 70's reel to reel B&W old school cut and splice, then non-linear and now linear electronica editing. I watched and saw/heard the edits. They were sub-par but not unwatchable. Just not the same as normal, more in line with old school cut and splice stuff. People are far too critical and persnickety about that kind of stuff. The message got through fine and the camera work was of normal quality.
No complaints from someone who actually knows and does this stuff.
As you were, have a good day.
Great video Ray. So nice to see all that work. Thanks. 👍🏻
I love that Donald Duck commentary
i know that they do not just sell that boot i have tried to buy one before and the only way i could get one was to buy the alternator wire
and about the oil every thing listed on the bottle is heavily regulated so you can just use the recommended oil by your manufacture
Edit didn’t bother me enjoyed it but glad it’s. Not a new style your choosing
ALL complaints were jokes Ray, just having a little fun with you 👍💯😂😂
