In this video I have a look at a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T 3.6 that has a customer complaint that the wipers turn on, the dash resets and the headlights flash when you open the sliding door or the rear hatch...ummm ok...let's see. -Enjoy!

Is this a comon problem with all, or specific car types .
Great. Now tell me which wire in the driver door harness will do the same thing. My wipers come on, and I lose all my dash functions when the DRIVER DOOR is wide open. Now it does it all the time, even with the door closed. I'm sure there's a wire in the door harness that finally separated enough to kill the bus. No turn signals, no speedometer, no battery charging, all from the driver door.
This was a great video. Like Jim Morrison said, "Strange Days have found us". At least this time they have not dragged us (you) down. You are a good mechanic. Love your site. I learn a lot. Thx
That was lucky, but a methodical approach to understanding and finding your luck.
Most people would still be wondering where to begin to look.
Like when you exited at the driver's door created a possible change, and it gets hinged the most, alot of people might spend time at that body to door harness.
But in recreating it, and thanks to your research, you went to that unused connector to tap in.
Turns out you found your luck sorta as you accessed it and noticed leaning or pressing down affected it.
Thank the makers for live labscope.
I saw a GMC pickup with a "phantom swipe" on its wipers take a very long time to find a cause. Much longer, because these information and live data and picture weren't yet available.
Brilliant video, love the detection & fix videos. I'm 4 years behind but you did ask for the comment.🤔😳🙂
You better had gone and bought a lottery ticket that day. Lucky that you leaned on the right place to make it short out. And smart enough to realize it! nice one!
If you didn't notice, the bus wires are a twisted pair. This twisting canceles induced noise on the bus and, along with impedance matching of the transmitter and receiver of the data signal allows a clean flow of data flow while rejecting noise.
Hahaha..".what the thunder is going on" and "this might be a boring video, but I am excited"…. 🤣 I think this is your best video 👌, or well, maybe it comes close to home 🤷 (former ships engineer, so we do speak the same "direct" language), curiosity…that's what drives intelligent people 😬
I got a 2015, got issues, no instrument cluster open or close my doors, putting my key in ignition my radio light is on and my rear defrost light flashes for a minute or 2 a/c don't turn on till it stops, headlights, parking light always on, wiper is on also, frustrated, these vans are P.O.S.
GIVE ME OLD IRON ANY TIME, SIMPLE, STRAIT FORWARD, NO b.s.
Built to last.
I'm Out, peace!
the videos you bring is for me very informative for me LOVE THE VIDEOS
When Mr. O can’t find the issue he becomes a madman on a mission……hysterical
Sometimes its better to be lucky than good…..But Eric made his own luck knowing to hook into that connector in the back….lady could have taken it to 100 shops and 12 modules and a TIPM later still not fixed…..Well done Mr. O.
I love this.
Thanks for sharing! Stay healthy! (You have enough comments!)
Wish I found this over a year ago, same issue, 5 hours into diag we replaced the cluster with a used one, worked for 5 min. I really need to up my game and get a pico breakout box. We never resolved the issue, just lost lots of time. You are awesome, glad your there for me to look up to.
This is diagnostics I like the most.
What the heck was going on in Avoca that day? That's a heck of a racket out there!
Im a Big Fan, Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. I was screaming me head off about 17 min into it saying take out the freaking seat already and look under. Lol 😆. GOD Bless .
A combination of skill, intuition, and good luck. Never thought it would be a failure in the trunk area.
Nice find !!!
"you guys might not find this stuff interested"
never change a thing.its the diversity of different problems that reel me iin,the ones who dont find it interesting can watch another vid on your channel because you have diverse subjects there somthing for us all
Like your videos very Informative.
Eric , I drive a Minnie van. Lol I found this video very informative. Thank you for staying late to making it for us .
You Sir are absolutely amazing !
Erik, an intermittent issue is usually the worst to find. Times like this it is better to be lucky then good. If they even have a test tree on this issue it starts at the other end of the car. Good job and no it was not boring. Love you're work.
great vid its helpful
I really liked this video 👍
When the system is dormant there will be .7 volts on each upper and lower cam channel to show it’s not zero voltage and not dead and since they are mirror images there is a difference of 1.4 volts between channels. What a diagnosis nightmare.
I really enjoy the wiring videos Bc I enjoy chasing wiring issues thank you
As a retired HVAC tech of many years I really enjoy watching your trouble shooting process.
Something I would have never thought about thanks.
Man, I think if you did the Ancestry DNA thing, you'd find that you are part badger, part wombat, part Tasmanian Devil, and part bulldog!!!!! It takes that kind of tenacity to solve this sort of problem. Some folks lack the desire to dig in, much less stick with it! A lot of people would just shrug their shoulders, say "I don't know anything about that" and go back to their smart phone. My hat's off to you, Eric!
Its all cars to me:) I like it
i had a similar problem
but in my case light's, wipers, horn went on and off
dealer ask for $1,800 for new computer.🤔
i decided to take a close look
to a malfunction door.
(short on door wires)
(GPS on computer) toxic ex)
cut wires off $3.50 connectors
and 1.50 electric tape DONE.
Well done Eric, what a find and a hard to find problem at that. Keep up the great work.
Freakin amazing deduction!!!!
really good video
It turns out that when a smart guy uses a logical and analytical diagnostic approach, he gets "lucky".
SHERLOCK OWEN ! ! Love the show .
ERIC are computers over used and bullshit ? I love you chasing faults maybe OEM can LEARN not likely .
Crazy ! Modern car designers couple "cute" complexity … because they can … with sloppy implementation … to save pennies … throw in insane options … BINGO! Failure City! AND Intermittent Heaven to Hell Swings!
You can hear the excitement in your voice. A giddily little boy.
You are a great educator of young and seasoned technicians! I learn a lot from your troubleshooting and repair process! You didn't quit until you recreated and find the problem. You make it look so easy. Thank you! I feel like I can do this!
Its a Dodge caravan, what do you expect. Had an 84 caravan brand new; 100,000 miles and 17 transmissions later it finally bit the dust. I paid for 1, Chrysler paid for 16.
Eric that wasn't a boring video at all you showed how you track down that electrical short you're obviously the best want to do in this for those of us car geeks that are scared shitless of following electoral leads like you do , your great teacher .
Excellent!
Can my mechanic call you about the 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan you found the wire under the back space that was severed by a bolt. My van is doing the same and they cannot find the problem. If so it is Master Tech on Rutherford Rd Greenville SC. Thank you.
Great piece of fault finding. Intermittent electrical faults are some of the most frustrating, time consuming jobs out there. Also probably the most rewarding when you find them. Great work.
I am a retired electrical\electronic maintenance tech with with about 41 years inthe field. Great logic and troubleshooting skills youngman. This video caused me to subscribe to your channel. I always appreciate sound thinking. Thanks for this video since I am working on a 2014 Grand Caravan with a radio issue right now. She turns her radio on, wipers starts and dash resets. I will post here what i find. Thanks again.
Thank you for fixing our "Minnie". My 4 year old is currently glued to the TV watching "her" van on YouTube. Yes….you have entertained a 4 year old.
