Come along with Eric O. at the SMA shop as we have a look at this 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 that has some serious driveability problems. It has a single cylinder misfire mostly at an idle and it also has a hard time maintaining fuel control. I am leaning twords ignition system (plug s, wires, cap etc.) and I am also thinking something with the 02 sensors. Enough talk let's see what we find!

The better the teacher the more you learn.
Man why can't all mechanics be as straight up as you?
Great Video I really enjoyed watching you work and listening to your train of thought. You made good use of the diagnostic tools, very fun to watch
Although it probably needs clear headlight housing and lenses..
I've got a code saying to replace camshaft and crankshaft position sensor. I did and it's still throwing the code what else can I look for? Runs rough yet until I apply more gas.
It ran smoothly at 60 on the way home btw
My 95 Ram started bucking on the hiway so I limped back home but couldn’t shut it off the key wouldn’t turn. I’ve been able to take the key out and leave it running to keep a/c cooling but this is a first. I drove slowly and gradually got it to 60 and kept it there all the way back home but when it wouldn’t shut off I unhooked the negative from the battery and when that didn’t work I removed the fuel pump fuse to shut it off it’s got 165,000 on it and runs perfect till now your thoughts PLEASE……..
Mine spits sputters backfires. Cranking 15 minutes off and on then it will start running.??????
You could hav been a great surgeon, but think how many cars you have saved from the crusher
I don’t understand all your electret jargon,or your scanner stuff, just cut to the chase an tell us how to fix it. Thankyou for thawing the time to make the vid!
I do have a Vantage you can buy.
Where are you located? I'm in Michigan with a 93 5.9 magnum that is giving me nothing but problems with fuel delivery. It's in a 93 Jeep wrangler so there is plenty of room to work but I don't know.
Great video btw
Throttle body too much air or not enough, took mine off cleaned an adjusted . Joe the man
You are a sharp tech!! I also am a diagnostic tech and I though I good at it until I saw what you do all the time. Plus I live in socal so I never deal with the crazy rust issues
He has a lot of funny Expressions that are still clean. I wonder if he is a Christian. I love how he goes past the mechanical to test wires and circuits all the way to completion instead of just throwing Parts. Love it! Keep up the good work!
The wire is resistive wire so it would be like trying to measure current through the resistor by clipping on a resistor it doesn't work that well that's probably why you're inductive pickups are not working and even if it's a capacitive pickup that multiplies the problem.
Thanks for texting yourself into a pretzel so we could see what's going on,really appreciate that.
I keep having a misfire on my Dodge Ram 5.9, it fouls the second plug from the front on passenger side repeatedly. I’ve gotten to the point that I just keep swapping out that 1 plug. But within weeks it’s back to misfiring
Great guidance, knowledge. Very understanding, honesty. Thanks man!
I think I had a simular thing on my 91 grand prix, with an aftermarket ignition modual
I wish you were my mechanic.
Seems to me by experience you don't have to dusturb the distributor to do heads on the Magnum.
Now to fix that bullshit exhaust system
I wonder if the problem concerning secondary ignition on the scopes is the sheer amount of insulation on modern ug wires
you saved me from going back to my guy my truck did this exact same thing thank you so much
Cam sensor
As always great clip
I saw in some of your older videos you've used the autel and some of your newer videos you've used the snap on scanner. Did you have the snap on scanner at the same time as the autel? And secondly did you switch to the snap on one due to what the autel lacked at?
You are the master!
Where is south main auto ..I need repair work on my dodge ram
Nice scope information, thanks for sharing & your time !
Always enjoy your videos always learn something. I am subscribed to several jenures like this. You can never get too much information. That is all.
Pull fuses with a needle nose pliers. Do you need me to come show you how it's done? Maybe lay-off the weed…
Eyeballed and payed attention to Snowball doing his thing! This is why he gets payed the big bucks for having the test equipment and know how to make the repairs he does. Wish I lived closer to him, but do not want my truck to get salt and rust in it! Good job Snowball…
Also shut ECMs in some of those Dodge units, Not saying this has one of those.
Great video. I need to see 2008 ram 1500 video for htr circuit. can't seem to get the concept of o2 htr control circuit. But thanks for the work you put into your vids
I hope that you replaced the hanger that was supposed to hold the exhaust upward otherwise it will eventually fall down and damage the O2 again
My trucks doing the exact same thing ! You’ve probably saved me a ton of nickels and dimes ! You da man thanks !
guffaaww.. "what kinda shop do I run?"😁
A dang GOOD one from what I see. Keep on rockin'.. and PEACE in Jesus.
No Jesus?
No peace!
Gotta love dealing with the public…. Said no one ever.
Great training video. I watched bcuz my 2001 Ram1500 4×4 is toast right now as it s/down under load with my bike towing behind in the trailer last summer.. I suspect the autoshutdown circuit but am not sure where to start.
Btw, so what is with the solenoid screwed onto the top of the power center?
Thanks for doing this video I have the exact same truck with the exact same problem so it’s a huge help
Can you tell me how to fix it or what can I do to fix it
I have a Ford F150 2003 have the same problem like the Dodge you just fixed
Give her a little toot there fella! 😂
My first car was a Holden HD boy life was so simple then if your car misfired it was points or spark plug no uplink O2 sensor no downlink O2 sensor no electric high pressure fuel pumps no ECM just an engine no injectors no complicated stuff but compared to today's cars they might have been easy to fix but they were rubbish after all that give me the modern car with its ECM catalytic converter oxygen sensors no points and high voltage coils on the plugs and computer controlled injectors themselves.and long lasting plugs. Trouble with a 10000 dollar scan tool is even if you have one you need the knowledge to interpret the data and there's the rub despite being paid to fix something you get paid to find the problem with a 10000 dollar scan tool and interpret the data its great watching the process of elimination your mind goes through and the experience you have in deducing the problem
what the name of your scan tools you are using
What a poor excuse for a truck.
Great Job, Big props to you Guy , Thanks for the Video ..
