Well.... you asked for it now you got it. In my previous rant video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVTUa2d6q-A , I showed you guys a little bit of this 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 that I had tore apart and many of you requested seeing the job... well, here it is on it's way back together. Hope you enjoy 🙂 Stay tuned for part II.
Very good video.
It's amazing that this has been a common issue with these trucks since the early 2000's and they're still allowed to make them like that. The government needs to stop protecting these big companies and start making laws to protect consumers from these issues.
Great job. Great explanation. I think Ford Escort had the easiest heater core to replace with the 2 screw access door, and the Dodge Ram has the most difficult. Although I seem to remember an old Buick or Cutlass required pulling the passenger fender out to access the heater hose connections. I like a challenge but I hate desigh stupidity. Thanks for the video. Cheers
I will be starting Firestone March 1st I'm just finishing up Linking Tech automotive class
Do you know where I can get some of those South main auto magnets from my toolbox I'm just becoming entry level mechanic
That is so Chinsy They give you foil tape to cover what you destroyed wow If you took the time to chop and Dremel the case you could have taken the time to take the entire thing apart and done it right That's sad Eric O @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
hi. i would like to know where the outside cold air enters the heater box through the firewall. is there a way to block the cold air from coming in from under the hood?
Very good video.
I know that Dorman is a hated brand name here, but I have to give credit where credit is due, especially with the Coolant Crossover Pipe and the Oil Cooler adapter for the 3.6 (2nd Gen) Pentastar Engines such as on my 2014 Grand Caravan. Dorman has OE Fix replacement parts that are made of aluminum instead of plastic (OEM).
I do tons of ram HVAC rebuilds and that joke of a door and the box hacking is compliments of Heater Treater not a sponsor. Ive had words with them over using scare tactics like The Whole Dash has to come out etc. I can have the steering column and dash out properly before you can hack brackets and remove all the screws trying it their way. Also i use Blend Door USA on all my rebuilds.not a sponsor
You didn't do anything with that noisy assed blower motor. Your fired !
My pressure tester from the 70's still pressurizes the cooling system…Have another tester that sticks in the rad filler.. and tells me if head gasket is blown…chemical turns a different color when suction is applied.
Holy crap, how bad is Dorman that their rep is still just as bad on current YouTube videos
FourDoorsMoreCores!
I got a question for you? So i go to switch where it circulating the air to doesnt work. Its stuck on the upper. I wont switch to feet or the windshield. So i cannot defrost the window
Nice vid man.I have a 97 dodge ram 2500 cummins every time i hit bump on the street it sounds like there's something loose inside the heater box could be one of flaps that could be broken? or any idea what could it be
Eric if you're going to take this whole thing apart at least clean the parts cuz your one fresh air blowing on all that all that dust that you left on there come on .
GOOD JOB….
Eric have you ever done a video on evaporator replacement on a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500HD ?
glad to see your daughter she is so cute an happy
Amazing, fabulous brain you have… and awesome patience. I've done a couple of heater cores and it is a whole new world behind that dash board… thumbs up to you.
This year, 2021 I did a heater core replacement on my 2001 Jimmy. I sympathize with your dilemma. I didn't have the debacle you have but I still had to take the whole dash out. I had no idea what I was getting into, but it all came out okay, much to my amazement.
Great demonstration of how the blend doors work. I was always curious as to how they worked. I have a Chevy Silverado and have been having problems with heat coming out of the dash vents when the blower is turned off.
About how long did it take for the whole job? Have to replace my own blend doors.
Oh yes ,2002 ram "trk,🥴thing☹️" I call mine. 4.7, I have hot air floor pass, side ,. Cold cold floor driver's side ☹️. Help!!!
So that's "Ram Tough!" I wonder why he knows these things like the back of his hand?
I did that similar thing in my 99 ford f150. The blend door snapped of course. 10 hours of labor to pull the dash. Bought the new redesigned blend door, two piece METAL pin instead if plastic. Cut a hole in my heater box via the glove box took me around 1 and half hours and the heater box doesnt leak or nothing after taping with that foil tape. I wouldnt do that on a customers car but my own helll ya!
Wel well very good job there wheel done am struggling with diagnostics on my mom RAM it makes a lot noise under the dust but thanks to your video I kind have an idea what’s going on in there but am afraid all have to come down to make sure are the blend doors but the low side in the Infineon compartment frost while the a/c is running I would very much like to hear what you think thanks for been there for us and do what you do Jahovah bless your every day and family what is really important
usually really like his videos. but this one kinda pissed me off . he makes fun of the owner trying to safe money on fixing HVAC doors. 2002 through 2014 ram truck all suffer from these doors breaking. First doors are not cheap . he say he bought OEM just one door is almost 150$. not all are expensive as that door . he replaced heater core and ac condenser. but did not say how much those cost. I called dealer 1500$ in just labor not including their over priced parts. not including heater core or ac condenser. I fixed 2 doors with out take dash off and box. I wonder how much he charged to do that job.
I fixed my with Dremel tool. was easier than having 0ay for parts and labor…
I'm sitting here SCREAMING, take the air intake off so it's out of your way!!!!
i had to do a heatercore on my last 2nd gen ram what a nightmare! the entire dash had to come out then the framework behind it to get to the core. 21hrs book and it took about all of that
Very interesting. Well done explanation. In your future you should be teaching. You have a gift.
I know this is a very old video but Eric. I've got to call you out on your torque specs . You clearly didnt give it 2 ugadagas meaning there's no way you meet the gouentight factory spec. SHAME 😄😄😄
I missed the step where you put the mice in the heater box. Do you prefer oem mice or will dorman mice suffice?
you didn't say what part numbers, or how many total ndoors there were.
I did get burnt on a spectre heater core that leaked after about a month so ill only go back with a mopar heater core unfortunately 4 times the price ive got pics of there's a way to post em
I have said the exact same thing about cutting up the dash and HVAC plenum amd the Whole Dash has to come out scare tactics so i agree with you totally. I use Blend door usa on all of the one's i fix they are expensive to the tune of $300 a complete set but are a lifetime repair
In defense of his daughter that keeps interrupting him while he is making a video…. I was taught as a child never to interrupt grown-ups while they are talking. However, Eric never shuts up…he is a natural born motor mouth, so his daughter has learned as a survival tool to just interrupt him.
I would have pulled that intake pipe but each person does it a different way and in the end it still gets done.
I just kept thinking, "Eric, just take the dang air intake tube off!" it was so in the way. Hats off to you for working through all this and filming it for us… I have this job in front of me so was good to see from your video what I have coming. So a BIG THANK YOU for this. What did all this cost the customer? Just round numbers… Thanks, Clay
I can't find the low pressure switch on my 2009 dodge ram 1500
The good steel doors are the ones to get they will never break
Oem doors are junk too
That’s actually the good aftermarket upgrade doors and yes those actuators are MORE than strong enough to move the heavy doors
"I'm gonna polish it to get the most HPs out of it we can." 😂
Is the orientation of the actuator post to the blend/temp and mode doors important? In my Ranger, the post can be inserted with a 180° error.
I used to be a small engine mechanic. We would find the funniest things the good ol boys would do to get the job done! 🤣😂🤣 Many cases they make cheap fixes much more expensive. I enjoy good and bad ingenuity.
Does the inlet and outlet tubes on the heater core have a little movement where they are crimped/connected to the core itself?????
My heater go on and off, why????
After owning my Dodge that I purchased brand new in 1999 I wish I knew that Dodge only made lemons I never would have bought one
