Come along with Eric O at the SMA shop as he has a look at this 2002 Buick Regal with a Supercharged 3.8 that he just put an engine in and then discovered on his test drive the car wouldn't get out of its own way! In the video he shows 2 different methods for checking a restricted exhaust.
A video from the Scanner Danner Premium Channel that Paul is willing to share with us as he demonstrates pressure transducer testing! Remeber if you liked this video he did there is a lot more like it in there. Concider subscribing! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YookV4zyQdU&feature=youtu.be

I need to borrow that guage. None of the auto parts stores have a loaner. Pretty sure my tacoma is clogged up.

Great video.
I made one with a o2 sens by drilling out the center and installing a piece of copper tube with some epoxy and it works
I hate touch screen computers
watched this and the entire time wondered why a simple observation with hands and ears at the tailpipe could not have revealed that the exhaust was plugged?
Wow 70 Pounds Of Back Pressure that is impressive it even runs or idles pretty strong motor For sure Eric O good Video very informative @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Excuse me Mr. O I have a question for you I got a 95 buick Riviera 3.8 supercharged and zip had a problem with my RPM and my Speedometer my RPM just go over 11 or 1200 and my speedometer just go to 55 MPH the car goes over than that, I change the VSS sensor, that crank sensor and the fuel pump cause my float wasn't working right so hopefully you can help me with some ideas thank you and have a good day
When Holden Australia put that supercharged buick v6 engine in the Commodore, they deliberately crimped the exhaust system so it under performed the V8. When owners 'uncrimped' the exhaust, they had more power and used less fuel than the 5 liter V8.
Thank you!

Hey why did you say this scope is useless? Just curious as I am in the market for a good scan tool and the Autels seem very good.
First day on the job? LOL
Interesting! I wonder if it could be possible to un-lock a cat. convertor with a chemical flush?
Ahhh yes back pressure
You forgot to mention the 2 percenters at the end of the video>
Jury rigging
What painful penalty should be given to Auto Salespersons who sell Turbo Cars to little old Grannies that can't hear ??
I could watch all night
Where can I buy this pressure transducer? The link for tools and toys is not working. Also great video and your not the only one that didn't trust the results of it. The in cylinder pressure testing is the future of engine performance mechanical diagnostics and even tho you didn't really know why you made the video it for sure helped me gain a little more experience with a known plugged exhaust. Thanks Richard White, shop Owner/Technician
Where did you get your mathmatical equation to convert millivolts to psi
I realize this is a old video. But it is a motor which I have and love (thought mine is the Australian Holden version).
I thought the video was great regardless. I also thought it would have been great if you had done a before and after (blockage removal ) of the readings for things like MAF, O2 sensors, Spark advance and even Knock sensor. So then maybe people who might not have the tooling, they could maybe be able to diagnose a blocked or restricted exhaust with the likes of just a data reader tool. Just a thought anyway.
Did you actually find out if there was a failure in the exhaust or was it something like a "banana in the tail pipe" by someone? I presume that was what actually caused the previous engine to "explode"?
Show what was plugging the exhaust when you can..
OMG! Put your hand behind the exhaust pipe and ‘feel the wind’ or NOT. First diagnostic tool…
Studying Exhaust BackPressure today and found one of my favorite YouTube Channels at SMA. Thank you Eric.
I seen a Ford Explorer. Not start show no codes. The exhaust was plugged up. First thing they cut off with the catalytic converters. Instead of cutting before the muffler. Where do you think that shit all went to. From the catalytic converter. Think before you cut.
the cricket is good if he makes a bad joke and everyone is quiet
A friend had a 72 dodge polarafired it up one winter let it run for 20 minutes and warm up gave it a throttle snap and our next week was spent putting on another set of mufflers blew both them and the resonators wide open
Yeah that Gerry hes been rigging stuff since the 1800s on up
I have an adapter that threads into the O2 hole for a vacuum/pressure tap. Intake vacuum will show restricted exhaust as well, if it can’t get air out, it take air in.
All your vids are popping up since I subbed. 🙂
man, this video is a no show?!
I would think that if your bottom line is +.500 v. then you would take that off at the end as well. so I would believe your around 80 psi.. otherwise your using it as a percentage rather than a start value.. I think.. I could be wrong sir.
So what was plugged cat or muffler?
I can hear that the exhaust is almost totally blocked, we used to jam a potato into peoples exhaust pipes as a joke and 'if' (big if) their car started it sounded exactly the same. (Australia).
It’s jury rigging, like the show “Bull” but illegal.
Not Jerry-rigging.
When I hear of an exhaust being plugged my first thoughts are to unplug it.. I heard the term plugged exhaust but I don't know exactly what's plugged up in the exhaust? I guess a bunch of soot burned up oil? Nothing you can do to unplug it? You always have to replace it?
Jerry or Gerry is a nickname for Germans in WW2. They were always rigging things to blow up or fail. The allied forces would always find things rigged and they started saying it's been "jerry-rigged".
Ho do you come up with the barometric pressure of 500
So you can use any MAP sensor for in cylinder compression test?
We got the "before" but where is the "after"…we feel cheated…where is the after???
4 years ago… And still relevant! Nice episode!
Get a shotgun and end that cricket 🤣
You can chech manifold vac at 1000 rpm and at 2500 should be with in one inch vac. Will show you exhaust restriction
I know how it feels. I just ate a home made pizza with about 1/2" of cheese. I'm going to be pushing out softballs for three days.
3 1/2 minutes into it and you still haven’t shown us anything
I don't know if Jerry rigged anything but the term is "jury rig"! You can understand how that is a problem.
can't believe you didn't check pressure after the fix.
It's all good gave you an educational bit to show for it and it's cool and all good enjoy it I do
Best constipation video I've seen with exception of that 4 banger frontier from nissan
