In this video we have a look at a Ford Escape that came in with a customer complaint of "check engine" light on and "battery" light on. Didn't take long to find a P0453 EVAP System Pressure Sensor High and a code P0625 Generator Field Circuit Low. Let's see what we find! -Enjoy!

I really appreciate your videos, you have saved this 69-year-old woman a lot of money.

I have the Mazda Tribute version of the Ford Escape and it is a problematic car that a mechanic can make a career of repairing.

You have not lived till you replaced the Water pump on an Escape 1.5 Ecoboost…Just did a 2017.. Had to charge them $440.00 labor…

Did I mention.. it has no belt tension on it..It's a stretch fit…

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Juan Cortes says:

Great job/explaining all the testing. Keep up the great work!!!!

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Knorr says:

If moving a connection fixes the issue, it could have been loose.

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeff Crane says:

Those tires are terribly loud on that car! No doubt they sound like they must be the noisiest tires on a car that i have ever heard. Many folks drive trucks with mud tires around here, many of them are even noisier, but i have never heard car tires sound like that.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Harrison says:

Cool I think I'm getting closer to understanding the ford smart charge system with the ol ld chevys it either worked or it dont

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars RJB says:

I have a Mazda Tribute, same as the Escape, with the same fuel pump access. Why the hell other manufacturers don't do the same is beyond me. I do know why, but I don't feel like ranting right now.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Mardis says:

    Damn those tires are loud

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Mardis says:

Good job introducing water with the compressed air. I kid, I kid! Makes me think about techs (not all) not knowing autobody shops use “dry” air.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian Hind says:

Eric: Where do you buy those wire piercing probes……the yellow ones you were using ?

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeff T says:

as an owner of a messed up 2003 ford escape i inherited, your videos have helped me exponentially. Course some electrical mysteries are yet to be resolved but ill keep watching and learning. On a side note… i have found your voice an communication skills are so calming and soothing (yeah i know that sounds kinda weird considering your voice isnt really calming and soothing lol), but you have a style that makes it hard to get frustrated with whatever work im doing… and i fear i may have my first man-crush. never saw that coming. Damn youtube! Keep the good work coming Eric!

Quality assembly at the Ford factory by dedicate UAW technicians.

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars BigLoo says:

In regards to the tank pressure senaor, on older Escapes, that access cover is a steel plate screwed down to the floorpan, and in this one, it is a plastic cover. Maybe, when someone sits on the back seat, it pushes down on that plastic cover, and hit the latch just right.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JMZ says:

    HA, money light!!! Lmfao!!
    Awesome work Eric.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Larry Ehrlich says:

Tires overheat and blowout from "LOW" tire pressure…not High tire pressure. Remember it is safer to have a tire over pressure compared to under inflated. I run my tires 5 psi overinflated and I have never had a blowout. What's the worst that can happen with overinflated tires? A slightly higher wear on the very center tread of the tire that is vertically impossible to detect. Over inflate your tires and you will never have a blowout.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars BigLoo says:

If you think THAT alternator is inaccessible, try one with the 3.0 L V6.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars drome010381 says:

Please do a video on gaskets. From what I can see the concensus is that if a part comes with a gasket then you should not need any sealer or silicone. No matter the type of material the gasket is made of. However, many mechanics seem to swear by gasket sealer……what is a fella to do on a paper gasket on a water pump lol.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Frederick Grasic says:

Done so many of those fuel pumps. Recall replacing the upper flange!

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gregory Smith says:

How 'bout rigging your camera with a swivel magnet like your light so you can slap it to the underside of the hood or wherever you want to hang us so we can get that perfect viewing angle?

    very good test, wonderful videos!

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Larry Ehrlich says:

Why didn't you air up the tires before you drove the vehicle? Most tire blowouts are caused by low tire pressure (heat). I always over pressurize my tires by 3 -4 psi. Why? Because overinflated tires will not blowout…you may have slightly more tire wear in the center of the tire but no worry about blowouts.
Low tire pressure is why you see so many trailers on the side of the road with flat tires. Always air up your trailer tires before use if needed to avoid blowouts.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian Hind says:

Alternator location an improvement over the early Escapes. Beats me that one of the parts (alternator) that WILL need replacing & that you can't drive without, was BURIED under the damned engine & required dismantling half the front end to get the damned thing out. I think I will look for a model "A". !!

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ROBERT R Penny says:

I thought an evap code on an escape means you check tires for leaks. Saves on chopping up wiring that is not involved. Haha. Then maybe change ps sensor if tires good. Reminds me of a bad video game .

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jose Da Silva says:

You are the Louis Rossmman of mechanics. Keep up the excellent work.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Willie Gillie says:

Gen mon. Do I see diodes in that gen Diagram ? If that’s the case it’s an alternator mon. Good job as usual Eric.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joe Lund says:

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eric Whetzel says:

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars armando nika says:

So there should be the same frequency on both of the wires?

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gravit8 says:

Great video Eric! Sorry for this noob question. Why does the unplugged signal wire have 5v on it? You have a 5v reference and a ground… Shouldn't the sensor send the signal voltage down the signal wire? Or.. If it's just the ground side of the sensor pulling the signal down, what do we need the 5v reference?

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars RL Batch says:

Eric, I use a seam ripper to open harness wraps. Had to buy my own when I failed to put my wife's ripper back.

I have a question, I just opened my shop it's very small. I was wondering how do you charge a customer if the job takes 15mins? For example a town and country came in with a power steering Leak. I took 5 mins to diagnose and 10 minutes to fix. The same van was in my shop two weeks ago. She ran out of gas and the level sensor was stuck on half. Again it took me 10 mins to diagnose. She didn't want it fixed. I was wondering how you handle that or anyone that owns a shop feel free to comment. I would be greatful. The thing is I feel bad because she a really nice lady. I don't want to rip anyone off but I have to charge something.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars chris kowalski says:

Got to admit you are genius when it comes to auto electronics and diagnostics…pretty savvy with the equipment as well…

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robinson's Motorcycle and Auto Entertainment Zone says:

Great vid as usual. What I typically will do is put a little diaelectric grease on the rubber seal it will let it plug in alot easier and also helps create a weather proof seal as well. Im sure your already aware but for others that watch you can put a little on a pocket screwdriver and apply a little to the seal.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars M Barry says:

That's a good tip – jumping the Mon – Comm lines together!

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars gtpforever says:

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gary Stephens says:

Hey Eric what’s the name \ model of the piercing probs you are using , see them in Keith’s videos all the time also. I think he mention it in one shot, started with a “P “. Ithink
