In this video I have a look at a Ford Escape 3.0 that came in with the money light on and a P1506: Idle Air Control Overspeed Error. It has been to a different shop several times and the lady just wants her car fixed at this point. -Enjoy!

In defence of the other shop that used the tape and wire tiesโฆ.
I wonder how many owners watch their car being fixed after the fact. Is that when they find out their car is ready for the crusher? ๐ …or maybe the car is in the crusher by the time the video comes out
Eric you did a really good job on this , Sloppy work by others ? Do you think they were really shops / Are they local ? If so , Yes they make all
shops look bad, Just one note ,As a Motor Damage Appraiser in Massachusetts for over 40 years ,I have seen stuff like this done by ,So Called
mechanics from other countries who pretend to know everything! I will leave it @ that…………
thums up
You ever heard the noise an IAC valve can make on a 4.6 liter ford? We nicked named it the woot tube. That IAC can get to wootin pretty good when you pull the hose out of the intake.
My experience with p1506 is almost never the iac valve . I'd say it's the pcv valve bad or aftermarket valve.Remove oil cap start engine feel for vacuum.
I'm comment guy tonight..but egr quick test is… engine running after cold grab the egr pipe, if the egr is stuck open that pipe will burn your had pretty quickly….
Curious your estimate strategy for a repair like this, I don't expect a reply but other techs might chime in. My approach would be to see everything I think needs repaired, fumble through repair times (I operate my own shop without employees, and don't see the volume you do so some repairs are semi foreign to me) add some time and parts expense for unforeseen hoses etc and give the customer an estimate I'm mostly certain I can do the work for and finish after the repair for less or equal and encourage them to get another estimate as well.
You're absolutely right. And the person getting burnt, is the customer. Everyone's got bills to pay, but doing a bad job and sending it out the door half broke, ain't doing nobody any good. Just gonna make you get pissed off customers who won't be back, and will tell everyone they know not to go to your garage. And believe me, word gets around. Bad shops eventually die.
Never apologize for pointing out the truth
Scotty would have found the vacuum leaks with a cigar. lol
the fuel regulator is pretty well shot and the hose connector to the manifold valve is cracked and that black bulb thingy whatever it does is melted and i got smoke coming out a 5 different places……..usually by this time i'm on my 4th beer
Sometimes you need to expose the other shops and they know the crap work they do it's too bad you can't say their name over the air and the worst part is they know the crap that they do and they continue to do it they charge customers a lot of money for the crap they do , then you have to come in and fix their mistakes .
Maybe it wasn't a shop. Could have been some kid ( everyone is a kid to me ) just trying to make it run with no money
why wasn't there a code for a large vacuum leak??
You don't have to apologize for saying what you said, I think you were right on point! say it the way it is. Keep up the great work Eric you are a class act.
When you change the TPS or Idle air control valve (on a 99 Chevy Tahoe with distributor-5.7L 4×4) is there a relearn you have to perform?
Eric O. For President!!
Looks like a cheech and Chong movie!
Well said Eric!
Nothing wrong with speaking your mind in "layman's terms", especially seeing the substandard work that was done! Love it when Trump lays into those incompetent crooks! ๐คฃ
Thanks, we always learn something from your videos
You spoke from your heart, nothing wrong with that.
People get tired of getting ripped off.
Keep up the good work and be safe.
Plethora, yes good word!
It needed to be said, I hope someone from 'the other' shop sees this. I've been burned by less than honest mechanics and it's really hard to learn to trust again.
That was a helpful video. Imm gonna try and run down my issue. But I also had a P1120 and P1121 along with the P1506. I did the head gaskets recently and tried to make sure I repaired anything that looked damaged on reassembly. It's been running good until the high idle. But your video will definitely give me a direction to look in. Thank you so much
It gets tiring to keep hearing Eric o calling Napa "Napper". Eric you Ned some new material for your videos.
You shouldn't feel bad for telling it like it is, wish I had a mechanic like you around, honest reliable, and knows what he's doing!!!
You will never be like tRump, you got morals and ethics. {-}
tape the leak maybe new hose cheap. Fords love new hose
Never apologize for telling the truth.
I'd like to think it's try to vacuum Link Link Link Link
No Eric, you have every right to say what you said. It's the truth ! Hack slobs that are lazy and just don't give a damn. They ARE a disgrace to the profession.
Wouldn't be fair not to call it like it is when it was a bad as that was!
Can't even pick it up on the lift as he thinks it will break in two and the other shop passes it for inspection. Seems they are desperate for customers. Eric O. Does not have that problem. Why? It is called ethics people. I just wished he lived closer to me because when as old as me you need someone to help you now and then. I had every fluid changed over in Lynnwood and had to take it to my Dodge dealer and he said "do you want me to change your coolant in the engine it looks like toothpaste". He got a very large demerit from my fairness counter
What a cob job done before you fix the mess. A lesson for all. Look over work that was done on your vehicle. If you notice a lot of zip ties, electrical or duct tape chances are your mechanic ripped you off. I am not related to anyone on this channel, but this is an example of a very good mechanic. They are a rare breed. If you find a good mechanics, give him or her your business. There are lot of idiot garages out there. SMA isn't one of them.
Your dad taught you right god bless you and your dad
Why don't these "fellows" bring them to you in the first place???
Correct again Erik do the job right everytime or dont do it and I've done lots of jobs that were first timer for me but I didnt go into it blind or ignorant I did the research and had an idea on what direction I had to go and I found that most times haveing a correct shop manual is a huge help and over the years I picked up newer and different shop technicians books to help side menin correcting some of the newer problems from newer cars so thanks for being Frank and up front about how you see shops not doing the best possable job for their customers
When I first saw the electrical tape, I knew it was a hack job by the previous shop. Smh. You're awesome in fixing right, even if you had to use some relabeled Dorman Products. I feel you, it will be a lasting repair, just that OE or OEM hoses are much better than Aftermarket for long-term..
Your video, on the 2008 Honda Pilot timing belt, helped me a lot. So yes, if you could do it, I could do it. My parents were impressed, because they felt this was a job for a professional. I get that, but I was currently unemployed and had the time. My '05 Pilot is running like a champ. Thanks SMA!
It's got a vacuum leak now wheres it at
Recently I have watched your videos from 2016 and up.. you got skills doc. I will continue to watch your videos because you are the real deal!!.. Keep on Truckin dude!
I respect your respect Eric.
Just unplug your fuel rail pressure sensor thats the quickest way to diagnose that problem
Honestly Eric, some of this stuff you get, I believe that sometimes a new customer may tell you it has been at another shop, but I see a lot of DIY type rough stuff in some of your vids like here. They may not want to admit that the cousins brothers aunties son had a hack at it and screwed it up. I know plenty of people that know enough to get into trouble……….but not many also know enough to get out of it like yourself. Love ya work.
Oh and bottle caps with holes awled open for screw fitment where holes were hogged out
Lol dont look to close to my engine it's been reworked with bubble gum zip ties wire ties off the bread bag duct tape and gorilla tape on the air flex tube by the mass air flow sensor or intake air flow reader because someone ripped it open
Google captioning is priceless! โโ welcome viewers to the cell phone auto channelโ
When the compressor kicks on it reads: [MUSIC]
When big nasty is going it reads [APPLAUSE]. Hate to admit it but I clapped.
"So where's the vacuum leak?"
"Yes."
This is exactly the same as my problematic Mazda Tribute. Even the same color. It's a regretful car to own. If I didn't do my own work, this car would fund a mechanic's retirement.
