Your anecdote about 2 similar conversations was unusually self-aware for people, in general. That being said, you sound like someone who is a better boss than an employee. Just make sure you create a business and not a job.
have faith good things happen to those who wait some times you half to make things happen . I know you are good mech it might be good time open your new shop. i know you had one befor it is time to open your wings and fly again .
Good luck for the future, love the video's.
Didn't see that one coming but ok?please don't leave us in the dark you're an awesome mechanic!
Shame you couldn't explain what happened. Would have been curious.
Ray, unless you are a very, very different person & mechanic when off the camera, the garage just lost a very, very valuable asset. BTW, eastern MA really needs good mechanics!!
I am so sorry that you were not fully appreciated there. I have no doubt that a mechanic of your caliber, honest, hardworking and knowledgeable, will not lack for employment and or customers of your own should that be your desire. Please keep everyone in the loop and we will continue to support you as best we can. Or we could just bug you with car problems/ questions while you are between career paths. Such as why when I replaced the rear rotors and calipers on the wife's 2016 Soul I now have no parking brakes. I've adjusted it as far as it will go and it allllllmost holds. I'm sure others have equally perplexing dilemmas that can help to keep you mentally sharp and focused on car repairs. 😁 Congrats on climbing to 449K subs. That should tell you how people feel. I'm sure you will land on your feet soon. God Bless you and your family Ray.
Ray, I was surprised with your announcement of today.>>>Ray, from my personal experience, and I am in my early 70's, although this situation came about a little earlier than planned, I have no doubt that you will come out way ahead than had you remained at that dealership. You are an exceptional mechanic with good moral and ethical values, and I have no doubt that whatever your future endeavors may be, you will succeed, and I wish you, as your family the very best. >>>If you can, I hope that you and your wife can take a bit of a holiday in the meantime. I will be looking forward to your future videos. From a big fan of yours, in Ontario, Canada.
Been following you for long enough (a while before you departed the dealership job) and I believe you're a great technician who has integrity and does the best at doing right by the customer so I think it is definitely no a you issue . Good luck with your future endeavors and hope to see you back soon
How many square feet and when do you close?
I wish you the best of luck. Your channel is awesome. I'm sure you be back on a crawler in days.
Oh Ray. They have lost a great mechanic. Their loss, not yours. I hope that whatever is in the pipeline works out well. Time to catch up on jobs at home and work out your next move. We are ALL right behind you my friend.
At least you wont have to hear that phone everyday! Hope your next place is your very own shop closer to home.
Dang. That sucks dude. Onward and upward.
At least we wont be hearing that bloody aweful phone ringer every again! I would have introduced that to the bin long ago!
Ray they lost the MOST valuable employee it is totally their loss… I absolutely love watching your videos as a former mechanic school student although I never wound up doing it for a living bc I started working for a horrible shop which ruined my passion to work on cars for a while I still work on my personal cars and for others time to time. You bring the faith back into mechanics with your honesty and great work, most people ruined our image with being crooks and robbing people. I can truly see you owning your own shop and being completely successful. Please keep making great content as much as you can while you think about your next journey
Im glad you left that shxx hole place time for better environment. Good mechanics deserve better work space.
I can't get my employer to fire me. They act like no one will drive a semi as cheap as I do. Keep on doing you man, Change is often for the better.🚚
Some people can't handle people like yourself and I work for myself as I'm very blunt and come as a dick because I do not sugar coat anything if you can't handle the truth don't ask not you but the people I offend all the time be your own boss brother you'll be fine
Best of Luck in next job. Maybe open your own repair shop and be your own boss?
I will drive my car from Houston for you to work on it, you are an amazing tech!
Hope you land a good shop soon Ray! You know some people turn off Google Maps voice directions 🤨
why you dont open your own shop
Why did you have your own ceiling lights and trash can?
Ok Ray, as for why, I think it’s your fault, but not for the reason you may think. I believe the true blame lies with your inability to properly communicate your side articulately when the conversation becomes elevated. Maintaining a calm volume and more importantly making your point of view so well, that your opponent realizes they have NO relevant argument.
Their loss! Looking forward to seeing what is in your future bud!
Sh1t happens to u s all, even the good guys. But it opens up new opportunities and helps us discover options we never thought about before. Endings can be brutal but new stuff lies ahead, and that can be exciting. Good luck to you!
You do a good job ! When dealing with the public it sucks big time !!!!
Hey, start a mobile mechanic business, you know your trade so you won't have any problems cheers.
Trailer chains, I cross them. I was taught to do it that way by my father. Life long boater, never lost a trailer in 40+ years of towing.
That shop can’t hold the great rainmaniny! The auto mechanical magician will be back! And more grander than ever! Mmhmm! Yes yes!
I went through a similar thing at my old work a bit over a year ago. My suggestion is not to rush into the next job if you don't have to. Sit back, think about it. I wish you all the best and look forward to future videos
you should open your own shop with the insentive of recording all repairs. who ever gets hired has to agree to those terms as well. you can throw all the videos on your channel and give each tech a % cut of whatever the videos makes. your videos are easy to follow and have helped so many. hope nothing but the best for you.
Cross is right way
No more doo-dee-doo…. oh no, what sound will you do now? Good luck to you Ray! With a work ethic like yours, it won't be luck. They've lost a good employee who helped build a reputation for their shop.
Looking forward to new videos from a new venue. Enjoy the holiday season, Ray!
You are a talented maccie you will land on your feet. Usually a relationship breakdown happens from both sides. But management are supposed to rise above that and work through it.
All the best mate, change is as good as a Holiday. I myself am about to undergo a career change, scary but exciting 👍
Onto bigger and better things 👍
Take care look forward to your next adventures. Thier loss.
Critique:
Don't be so concerned about making videos for yt like getting the best angle and focus more on work and maybe look further ahead so that the lift doesn't because occupied by a disassemble car.
But I much appreciate the honesty towards the costumers and the learning aspect of your videos.
And I would like to know the reason why you got the boot and not only what you think it might be.
You be right mate, keep on keeping on…. You will only live for so long so be sure to divide you time up between work and family and if shit hits the fan always choose Family first…..
I cross my chains. Hard to give an opinion on your situation without knowing details about the discussion that got out of hand though. I also wanted to work another year, but Covid screwed that up for a whole lot of us. Jesus! You work in a workshop and have to provide everything? Aside from air and electricity, what did the company provide?
Queue this shop joining the ranks of employers who cry about not being able to find people after they boot good people due to ego.
Sad news but wishing you all the best in your future endeavors!
This is incredibly crap news! It sucks when management changes and leaves things for so much the worse.
I'm glad that you've got stuff in the works for the near future. Wishing you all the best!
The reality of that last doodly-doo really hit home. Wonder what the next one will be…
Yes Ray, it is you.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but by my count this is the 3rd shop in the last 2 years (the dealership, then the place that pushed BG products, then this last one). At the very least it suggests you might want to spend a bit more time vetting your next shop before accepting a position (a job interview works both ways).
You're probably the smartest mechanic in the room and know it. Unfortunately, mechanics are something of a commodity so you're going to have a hard time getting paid much extra for your skill and knowledge. As good mechanics know, the industry's book time pay structure doesn't reward excellent work. It rewards barely adequate work done very rapidly.
The way around that is to open your own shop so you as the owner can enjoy the benefits of your superior reputation building long term customers. The downside is that owning a shop adds another part time job on top of being an excellent mechanic. You already bust your hump doing the video work/editing, where are you going to find the time to balance the books, chase down receivables, harangue parts suppliers, stay current with your shop's permits & taxes, etc. Do you have a Mrs. O for the office like South Main Auto? Are you going to be able to hire & supervise lesser skilled mechanics?
The business side is an entirely different challenge. I'm sure you are capable, but is it something you want to do?
Start your own shop and you'll have a line out the door. Maybe do a special series where you drive up to Orlando and do some work on a 2003 F150 Harley Edition. I'll put you up in my guesthouse and pay your labor. Asking for a friend🙂
WTH
There's 3 options now. 1- You can watch what happened. 2- You can make things happen. 3- You wonder what the hell happened. And you don't want to be the last one.
Sorry to hear, dude. Poop Stop is going to regret losing you. It was kind of apparent something wasn't too good when Peter stopped being in your vids and the lift that said do not use getting used was ridiculous. Don't forget to go back for your dead Camry! Maybe while you're taking a break from customers it would be fun to bring that back to life and find it a new home? Would definitely make a few good videos to say the least.
Was it the Swedish flag i noticed on the toolbox? 🥸 I'm watching from Sweden. 😁
Hope Peter is doing okay! Seems like a funny young guy.
At my job, I know that I am more qualified and intelligent them most of them. And when I get in a semi-debate; I just say "okay you're right" and continue with my day.
Crossing the chains ok but never cross the streams
I’ve seen a lot of your videos, you don’t exactly hide your thoughts and views about anything. Always the new person that doesn’t understand with drama.
oh no! I was attached to the Doo- Doo-Doodle- Eee- Doo. Besides that I'm not worried for ya, you area an excellent mechanic, who is able to tackle and asses any job. plus you are humble and know when you are in over your head (rare- I recall once you admitted you just didn't know where to turn on that jag and in order to save the customer money by not going on the wrong path u bailed on it to pass it to the dealership- correct choice and honest!) good luck to you brother!
Good luck Ray. You'll do great whatever your endeavor.
Ray….here’s something I’ve learned about work. If an employer doesn’t want to treat their employees with the basic dignity and respect that everyone deserves. Than they don’t deserve to have you as an employee.
Don’t worry Ray I worked for ford 6 years they pulled the some sh t you Deserved better just keep your videos going
Been watching you for about a year and you come across as a genuine person that doesn’t stand no nonsense and you do what needs to be done not bodging like some would. As someone else has said time to open your own shop. If l lived anywhere near you then l would be a regular with my vehicles. All the best to you and your new adventure whatever it may be.
That shop done goofed When people who had previous experiences with Ray and knew what he could/can do and has video evidence to back up his finding's Along with not trying to cheat his custormer's find out he's gone word will spread and the shop will go down hill in quality of repair's By then Ray will be doing what he does best making vid's and showing us what can be done with some elbow grease in your driveway and The right way to do it and what should be brought to a mechanic.. Either way Ray you will be alright. I remember seeing this earlier and having a Sympathy reply typed out when my cat deleted it. Sound's like you already have something in the work's Sound's like your boss's didn't like hearing that and decided to find a convenient and cheap way to get rid of you. Good luck to you Ray Also I know it sound's so silly to say it I hope you checked your Box's before you loaded them I don't know if you locked them or not So hopefully all your stuff's in there. Good luck Ray!
WOW that was a bombshell for the day. Wishing you all the best in the future Ray. From one mechanic to another your videos have been an inspiration on Youtube and everything you have done has been exemplary. Such a loss for them.
Say nothing,till things happen!
Always twist your chains if they're too long
As our President would say, I have two words before we get started: F those people 😉😂
Seriously though, you're better off being on your own than at the mercy of a bleeding heart with no spine or moral fiber.
Looking forward to what you have in store next. As always, keep on trucking!
As many have suggested, it might just be time to open your own place! I I didn’t have to drive through about eight states and one international border, I would definitely bring my truck to you! Please hurry back – a lot of people are gonna miss you!
All the best moving forward from this, I'm sure you'll do great wherever you end up man, keep doing what you do and don't forget to have yourself a great day
We all have a certain bull shit level meter. When reached it's time to move on
Haven't got to watch you in 3 months. Hope all is well. Can't wait to see new videos.
one door closes, another opens, start up your own shop and be their competition
Since you’re a YouTuber, you should get some sponsors and open your own garage.
You can make tons of money
Or actually go work at the Freedom Factory in Bradenton, you’d make a mint
To figure out who’s to blame, we would need to see the full story as it played out. You can’t expect us to know without knowing all sides.
How far was your commute?
Repeating what I said before you have a very high opinion of yourself. Some of your work is unprofessional in the extreme. I say to myself “people are paying for a professional job”. Your work seems to be “Do it MY way” If you set up your own shop I would go elsewhere.
It is probably you, having only seen one video, however, those same traits have helped you develop almost 500K youtube channel which is not exactly an easy feat, so probably that is a good thing. That sucks having to go back and get your stuff, I just walked out and eventually they boxed it up and brought it to me. 🙂
sounds like jr from jr go
Let's be honest, you make plenty of money off YouTube to need that job. You were merely just using them for content.
Hi Ray, one door closes and another opens. The only thing you get from looking back is a sore neck. All the best for the future. Keep making all your great content.
Dude….Your YouTube ventures should be your focus. Make Rainman Ray Time for you.
Can't wait to see you're next adventure!
Onwards Ray. One shop closes…another one opens. Bring on the big show.
Open your own shop! Sidenote I did find this shop you worked out 100% found the employee photo with you and everything
having watched channel for over a year at least i wish you the best and i know things will work out and i will be watching the other channel
the end 😂💔 most of the HR ppl like this
You might be the next Scotty Kilmer, except with more knowledge and not quite as crazy
Enjoy your videos Rays. Keep your head up with your attitude you’ll find a new place fast. And I always cross and twist the chains if they are too long.
nothing is forever….If it was me, I would have had a sense of satisfaction walking/driving out the door…who needs them anyway…and they are down one really valuable employee…would like to see who they are faring a year or so from now….
I'm sorry to hear about the job, but you'll do great on whatever comes next. Oh by the way I think you forgot your trashcan.
Mechanics and truck drivers seem to have to move on quite a lot. Might have something to do with the mind set required, you need to be focused and independent to work well but that doesn't fit well with employment situations.
My guy there's a speaker icon on the right side when using google maps to mute the assistant voice
Sad day man. I hope you bounce back.
Best of luck to you, and, don't say shit til the ink is dry. Just my 2 cents.
Wow they didn't want you there because of your personality "your not happy where you are". I think what that translates to is them having a "my way or the highway" perspective. I'm surprised they just throw employee retention aside , probably because of their ego or self centeredness.
As a person who is in management, I couldn't care less if my employees have different opinions etcetera(it's not my job to judge them, it's my job to be their manager), it's cool if people Wana think and be different which I think is part of the American dream. If we can get along and do our job without being ass hats to each other, TOTALLY COOL. I'm sorry they bumped you off because they didn't like you. That's some nonsense. I'm good with all my employees and they are all different, sometimes it's hard for them to tolerate each other but when the work comes, they pull together and get the job done and I'm talking all the nasty politics in your red group and blue group just getting along, doing the work. I guess maybe my group is some of the last real red blooded Americans who ARE united under one flag and can actually agree to disagree and choose to just get along. You said maybe it's you, 2 times now. Lol "it's not me it's you". I've worked a lot of places doing different jobs and it all comes down to the idea that your as only as strong as a team as your leader(there was a good video I seen talking that people don't quit their jobs, they quit their bosses and it's absolutely true). A leader isn't a boss, a leader leads by example and is one with the team. A leader doesn't say "you all pull me around now" , a leader says "let's push together". Talking the talk and walking the walk are very different, deeds are eternal not words.
I think it's a blessing you don't have to work their anymore. You deserve a work life you enjoy and love. I hope whatever you have in mind REALLY fits you well. That would be awesome.
I don't think you should dwell on it, just say good luck and so long to the past. You have a better happier road ahead. Stick with the good vibes and literally forget the bad vibes. You have a cool channel here, I look forward to your newer videos and your big surprise.
I'm sure they will give you a wonderful gift and large check at the going away party , and you will look back in 5yrs time and say " I'm glad I got away just in time."
Good luck with your new job man. I’m a skilled veteran of my trade much like yourself. Sometimes it’s good to mix things up a bit. Things get stale. Especially with management that aren’t too pliable. You do you man.
Perfect opportunity to go in business for yourself. Have you thought about being a mobile mechanic?
I wonder if it is a good time for Ray to open a shop?
I'd like to doxx the repair shop…
