In this video I have a look at a Honda Pilot that came in with a misfire. Seeing cylinder 4 was the culprit I wanted to go right for the most common on the 3.5's (The dreaded oil burning/fouled plug). However we stuck to our diagnostic plan and went right to the actual problem. Don't get side tracked based on pattern failures. -Enjoy!

Do you know why the motor makes the sound it is? Mine sounds the same and I'm thinking possibly the values need adjusted? I also have a tiny muffler leak lol thanks for any input or perhaps that's just how they sound even?
How do you bend down a woman's tang
We had a connector failure similar to that on a Subaru Forester. Found that out after I already bought the new alternator and still drained down the battery. Fortunately, I have a very experienced mechanic I go to when I can't figure it out.
So what exactly is the problem? The wiring or the injectors? My engine is making the exact same noise, just did valve adjustment and it still tick. Pls help
I love the red Camaro 5.7 tuned port? For sale? Probably customers
I love your unlimited limited guarantee that's the best
I have the misfire on all cylinders! I may have to push wires around as well. It run great on the road…
3 engine misfires on a 2003 Honda Pilot..I am going to give this a try..just don’t have all the awesome tools!

If I sent you some brochures for Geelong would you consider emigrating to Australia and becoming my local mechanic? It's a nice spot lol
That’s Wut she said
Best kind of diagnosis and repair, quick and easy. I know where I'm going next on my Pilot.
Sounds like valve lash needs adjustment
No matter how long or short your video s are Mr owe. Love everything you do. Well said Mari
Lol mine did that too didnt recognize my face it said I didnt look right I since changed that sounds like it's running like a barn pump
I have a problem. My '05 Pilot has a no start issue. I've had an intermittent p0172 and p0349 and was running fine. I figured I would check the spark plugs near bank 1. Looked fine and put them back on. Next thing I know, no start. I can hear the fuel pump turning on. I replaced the spark plugs and a new EVAP purge solenoid in regards to the p0349. Still no start. I'm not sure what could have gone bad for it to not start. I'm not sure to change the fuel pump, injectors, and/or coil packs. Any help would be appreciated.
My next step is to check the Fuel Pump relay. I already checked the fuel pump and ignition fuses and they're fine.
Update: No start was due to a dirty MAP sensor. Replaced. The persistent p0172 is still there. New 02 Sensors since OEM were original and have 220k miles. I'll have to adjust the valves on Bank 1 and or replace the fuel injectors.
Good one Eric, your fault finding talent is amazing. almost uncanny or should I say enigmatic. I'm finding your diagnostic techniques very useful and enjoy the 'hunt' for the culprit very much…
An electrical connector vaginoplasty!
GLAD YOU FIXED IT…..AND DON'T BE SAD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT MORE ENTERTAINING…..THE BEST PART OF ANY AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR VIDEO…..IS THE SUCCESS IN MAKING THE REPAIR…..THANKS…..

Second time watching 5/13/2020
My favorite YouTube channel.
like a hot dog down a hallway
You were lucky to find an unlucky connection. Good karma.
Just went through this on my odessy, 301 codes…
i've always thought it was weird when mechanics do an automatic full tune up, or suggest a timing belt and water pump before opening the hood.. had a guy price out a timing belt before looking at the car when i complained about 301 codes…
i looked into it on video's like yours, and was able to eliminate all the culprits
valve adjustment, did it, pretty easy, exhaust was tight so good thing
egr check, vacuum leaks checked, plenum seals checked, injectors cleaned, pvc checked, iac cleaned egr port cleaned, throttle body cleaned,
timing belt was spot on both cams, and crank end, good tension, it had been done at 180k ..tensioner was good checked..
i swapped coils around, got the same code, finally got some donor coils and found that 5 and 3 were bad, runs great now..spent 100 bucks, and some time
The point is the Video's you guys post put cash back in our pockets, they empower the guy with a good mind, and some tools and time, and protect us from predatory mechanics..I call it Bullshit Armor, thanks to all you guys who post diagnostics, keep up the good work, i hope you are so busy that your turning business away.
Stay away from big big box store shops (eg Canadian Tire here in Canada), worked for them and profit is their main driver.. full tune ups on v8's as a starting point. I even got in trouble for warning a few customers who were short on cash to consider other options , when i knew they were being fleeced.. seniors on a fixed income are preyed upon relentlessly ..
The internet and you guys have returned a lot of that power to the consumer..
good work, keep it up.. !!!
So what’s the lesson here? Don’t front probe?
and there was light !!!! you use extra lighting now, light helps see problems on new buried wire vehicles. you can see better we can all see better. great work.
Hi like your videos🚘😎
👍
A dud presentation 😨
Wouldnt it be great if, every consumer product that has electricity in it. Has to have correct wireing diagram on its user manual by the law ?
That’s the Honda pilot you did already same misfire cylinder
I had a gm 3.4 with the same situation turned out to be mass air sensor
Nice job again like always
Good diagnosis

PS love your videos and enjoy your process of thinking on electrical problem solving.
That ring tone is for old folks lol
Eric – I truly enjoy your informative and educational videos and I would never insinuate you talk too much – nooooo. Just one question: When you and the wife spend some amorous alone time, do you narrate everything you're doing? Just asking…
Nice find and diag Eric O
Good video Eric O
Just so you know my instructor at a highly popular automotive school suggested I watch your channel and witness magic
Can we get a video for whatever you are doing to that convertible Camero?
The classic reach-under solved the problem again!
with all the background noise I can only think Ms O has taken things into her own hands again. You may have to give her mechanics pay also.
40 seconds in my guess is a bad valve
u rock! u r the best, as usual!
