In this video I bring you along as I apply Fluid Film to my 2013 Toyota Tundra to help it stand up to the nasty salt of NY winters. I try out the "professional" spray gun and also the DIY straw that goes on the rattle cans of fluid film. -Enjoy!

when I clicked on this video I thought it was Eric The Car Guy. I was a little distracted and wasn't paying much attention. It took me a minute of wondering why Eric wasn't his usual sarcastic self, why he was being kinda nice, before I stopped and focused on what I was watching only to realize it wasn't him. Good video though!
I'm so thankful I don't work in the rust belt I do get a truck or car from new York from time to time and that's more than enough for me hats off to all top notch mechanics that work in the rust belt everyday just hope that you compensate your time for dealing with it
Curious, what would happen if you used spray on pickup bed liner on the frame?
can i use this on my exhaust manifold and other parts cause i have rust under the car that i want to get rid of
Great video !
I've been looking at doing this to my new to me 16 tundra.
Would it flow better if the gallon can was warmed in a pot of hot water first ??
Liked seeing you get the hood and engine compartment,,didn't think about using there.
I'll be doing it with my truck on jack stands but the amount of over spray has me second guessing having it done.
I live on a dirt road in Michigan, they do not use brine for dust control, but plenty of salt for ice. I used FF from day one. The dirt sticks to the FF and creates a nice dirty, oily coating. Not sure my mechanic likes the mess, but it's better than freeing rusted-on nuts and bolts!
I don't know, it looks like it makes a big mess of the vehicle and would make mechanical work a nightmare. Maybe using transfluid is a better option or a thin oil like WD40 and just applying them every couple months.
You do this every year? OUCH!!!!
What is name of the thinner rust proofing you already sprayed inside of the doors?
What's the Update on your Yoda and fluid film spraying?
You're in upstate, ny? Would you be able to do my Toyota Sienna?
I'm a bachelor and I'm not helping you get the last of that stuff out, do it yerself fella. ๐คฃ
Great sense of humour โฆ Darth Vader โฆ โI am your father !โ I note the care you take when itโs your own motor โฆ love it!
Why not just remove the inspection panel on the tailgate and do a thorough job on it?
I always tell guys to wear a respirator because once those fine mist particles get inside your lungs you canโt get them back out. It will stay deep inside your lung tissue and interfere with the oxygen getting into the bloodstream.
I had a lot of friends develop very bad respiratory issues from undercoating without using a respirator.
I use a silicone spatula to clean out the can.
Great video, very knowledgeable. Thank you.
Fluid Film is a great product but Surface Shield by Blaster lasts longer. The availability is a challenge at this time.
Want a cheaper wayโฆโฆ..more messyโฆa lot more โฆis to spray transmission fluid. Old or newโฆnew doesnโt smell as badโฆunder the car with a $5. oil canโฆworks for one winter 20 bucksโฆall togetherโฆalso transmission fluids helps lasts all rubber seals and jointsโฆ.I spray in into doors from topโฆ.greasy for a week or two,,,smells for a week or two toโฆalso helps window railsโฆ..slide betterโฆdid I say messyโฆ.I do it when I feel frisky,,,,,and do it when I got energy summer or winterโฆdo it in the street or down the blockโฆleaves a messโฆworks very well been doing it 20 yearsโฆ
Thanks ! The bolt hole tip will help in some spots ! Wonder if taking the trim off my tail gate would be advisable to get in there… it seems like a job but worth it.
try diluting it with brake clean when using the 360 sprayer for inside rockers and frame. it worked well for me with the same kit.
— Just bought a 2004 Tahoe winter beater. Pretty clean; can tell it was garaged. Still, there were places the rust was real. I'll spare you the months long process it took me to take care of it, but boy am I looking forward to just doing what you did once a year.
Done in a day or two. Thumbs up.
What about brake lines and rubber? Would it swell them being pcb or whatever material that isn't oil resistant
Nope
So spray everything?
Please would you consider doing an update on how the truck is doing
Just popped up in my feed. Ordered DIY items and will be trialing on my Side by side. Next will be cars. As a NYer living in Maine salt and brine is just as bad and they have strict rules on rust and passenger compartment holes. Thank you!
I've got my entire exhaust and gas and gas tank out right now for welding and replacement respectively. Since I've got a 23 year old junker from the northeast, I decided to just get under there while it's open and grind all the things. Bought more or less the same as you did, except I got a more universal HVLP gun setup and a gallon of fluid film black as well. I'm just going to use the gun and other pre-existing air compressor fittings to do it that way.
But that said, I'm gonna be spending a few days grinding my life away while I'm at it. And sadly, I have no lift, so I'm gonna be right up in it. Thankfully I have the same respirator and I intend to use it.
I also set up an electrolysis tank with an old utility battery (which I am using and charging in alternating shifts) for the brackets I've been able to pull out in one piece, which I will be treating before I reinstall and installing over the fluid film on the frame and chassis. So I've got my work cut out of for me this week, because I'm also in the middle of drywalling 6 rooms in the house at the same time while finishing the last of the home wiring and insulating the last 2 rooms.
And worst of all.., I lost my coffee cup. Think I put it in a pile of car parts. But if I knew, I'd be using it right now.
so what is the ideal pressure for the 360 degree sprayer???
You did very good but you don't need to apply on the bushings and rubbers areas. thanks.
Great idea ,I hope work in western New York Roberr from pR
A RUBBER WHAT?!
Keeps referring to partial dome spray as "360 degrees"
Inigo Montoya: I don't think that word means what you think it means…
I think the 360 attachment is meant to spray far. Itโs best used for going inside the plug holes so that you can coat a narrow interior surface in all directions.
I use rhino ramps to get to the undercarriage.
Did your car smoke at all after you applied this product and drove?
I learned the same lesson, start with the wide angle tip and finish with the wand. Took way too long last year, this year I will be much more efficient.
Does it dry up ? If does how long it will take? Or it is wet all the time, I used cosmoline RP-342 on my new highlander, it dried up in a few days and feels like thick wax, I heard it performs better and last longer than fluid film, not sure it is true or not, will see in year.
Great video, fantastic music. Would like to see how it worked, a year or two later.
Maybe next time take the few screws out of the upper panel on your tailgate to expose the big access hole. You can then direct the product where you want, especially along the bottom pinch weld where most tailgates seem to rust first. But you really layed the product on. Nice job.
PS- wasn't it the Tundra or maybe Tacoma that had the big recall for entire frame replacement due to excessive rusting?
Does it attract rodents like the soy ingredients in wiring?
I prefer using fluid film from the inside out. then when you have a really thick layer on the inside where it cant be washed away but it can creep outwards.
I'm sure Mrs. O's vehicle is next right?
Wondering if I can paint my 85 g body frame after wire wheeling all the surface rust then use this. Any advice is appreciated…
SEM cavity wax is my go to,i sprayed some on my unscuffed rear wheelhouses 2 years ago,ots still entirely there.i have a 2011 tgat looks like a,2021.If you have exhisting rust, clean up quick, and use Coroseal first, then coat
"MADE IN ITALY" YOU SAY ?
OLIVE OIL MUST BE THE
SECRET SAUCE….LOL !
I have 06 Town And Country and they rot from salt in rust belt. Fluid filmed my van, doors, rocker panels , fended etc. drilled holes and put plastic plugs in holes. Used gallon of FF. No rust on y van! Still โbleedsโ fluid film on skin of van along rocker panels LOL. Put this in your newer vehicle and never get body rust. MUST place inside doors, fenders etc, as your car rusts from inside out! Even if you wash your car in winter!
This rust "proofing" ought to be a factory option.
how much more life do you expect from your vehicle doing what you do
Mustie1 uses bar chain oil. I bet it's a LOT cheaper
