In this video I am swapping out the rear wheel bearing on a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. It's AWD and an easy bearing to replace. At least for a rust belt car it is.
-Enjoy!

Good onya Eric keep "em comin Cheers.
Another day, another SMA Video.
Had a rough night and a bad start to my morning. A hot cup of coffee, a biscuit and an SMA Video brightened the mood immensely.
Thanks Eric. Thank you for that video. I know that sometimes the day to day business can seem monotonous and the stuff you do "is just your job". Some days I wish I could help out as a part time job in stuff like that. My job is IT heavy – that means pushing mails and spreadsheets. You don't even see what you have done at the end of the day.
Keep up the great work and I appreciate your videos – even if it's the 500th Bearing swap. Always relaxing and always entertaining to see you work.
Always enjoy your videos Eric. Thank you and cheers fro Australia.
That car is way too clean you're gonna get spoiled.
Need some more diag videos please
Why do these newer cars go through wheel bearings so soon. My 86 "Scotty" Toyota truck bearings made 398K on rear axle and 446K on front spindles.
Like my father used to say, if I can't talk you out of it, I sure can beat you out of it.
Super similar to some Nissan stuff.
210 FT POUNDS? When i replaced the steering box and pitman arm on my 96 Grand Cherokee i left the old pitman arm on and replaced the new box with a new pitman arm, torque was about 200 pounds, a lot laying on my back, my torque wrench went up to 150 so i hit 150 then a breaker bar maybe another 1/8 of a turn. I recently bought a 2023 Tuscon SEL AWD with the convenience package. 31 mpg highway is certainly respectable for a SUV, cruises at 70 mph revving only 2000 on level ground with the new 8 speed and makes acceleration acceptable. Smart CC automatically downshifts to maintain speed on inclines and also declines along with braking, simply amazing. I was thinking of a new Grand Cherokee but for the huge price difference i went with the H.
Pumpkin smells those YUMMY treats==lol
That is a domestic vehicle. Made in Montgomery, Alabama.
You've got me saying click click on every bolt I tighten now.
Sunday Monday Hyundai
๐๐๐บ๐ฒ
Hey no rust. What happened ๐
THANKS AGAIN!
Hyundai better be careful….that bearing removal is easy enough for a diyer to do without excessive amounts of vulgarity because of rust.
I used to live in the lake Michigan, lake effect area.. we saw lots of chloride
It destroys vehicles
Now I live in the sunny south… never see salt..
you should relocate, think sunny Asheville…
How many hours in Real time did this take please?.
You got it mr O that one was so easy
Whenever something I'm wrenching on goes easy, I wonder how fate will make me pay for that. Thanks for posting
Wow! The only vehicle I've ever seen with an easier wheel-bearing job was my '68 Ford Galaxie, because it had the old-school kind that you could repack. ๐
Damn Eric, were you the one that installed the last bearing? That thing came off like you were.
thk for showing the gravy work,
Luna was saying, "knock it off with the air tool noise dude and stop talking to me with baby talk." Or perhaps, "Is it salmon time already? I was busy laying down."
On the wheel bearing and then trading it in let them make you offer don't say anything get a good price on new vechicle then whip out recipt for new wheel bearing (any valid repair) and say you come up this on my trade or I'm walking they usually will or meet you over halfway on repair
Its Sunday evening changed some brakes and 2 bad wheel bearings on my jeep patriot so they don't go bad on my commute and now i'm winding down watching Eric O do some lol. I used your patriot videos just to see what i was in for.
Couple of 3 ugly doggies on top huh?? ๐
PRNY Iโm sure that has something to do with the rust belt but the acronym is not registering with my brain โฆ.ugh!! Help!
I need a good big nasty fight video. Otherwise great work
That just proves your wonderful character. You know it will be traded or sold , yet you did the correct thing. Kudos fine sir
I tryed out a new Sonata back in 2014 , never had any issues with it up to now, planning to keep it for another 3 to 4 years, being a Honda fan, i am impressed with the Hyundai wich was also cheaper $10,000. Than a equivalent Accord.
Hey Eric you got me to finally realize i can change my brakes. I Did the fronts on 16 escape and now on to the rears. Learned some things along the way and plan on correcting a few thing i forgot like filing were the pads slide when i only used a wire welding brush to remove that CT rust. I doused everything in fluid film to slow down the rust. I just need to figure out how to remove the failed 2 piece lug nut. I bought Dorman (only reasonably priced ones at 2.50 for 40) oemfix single piece lug nuts. I donโt think they can mess those up.
Comment-Atlas
When I was a yoot, I would crawl under my VW Quantum and wrench away under a Jack stand and spring up to a standing position unscathed. Now Iโll stare at it from a lawn chair and consider my options!
The 3/8 matco impact is pretty mean
Not too bad of a job for a PRNY car.
You forgot to say the engine size. I assume it is "the big one " but how big?
How disappointing was that bud oh well at least we got to see a slick easy hub job. And see you and Mrs.O and Luna kitty. Great video Mr.O
no fight in the Santa Fe…. lol
It's a Santa Fe, that's a desert car as Santa Fe is a desert city. Hyundai programmed it not to rust.
Oh boy a rear bearing video!! I love bearing videos. I dont know why??
I'm with Ryan farther below in the comments.
What's PRNY mean?
2017 already crapped out a wheel bearing?
Watching this videos buzzedโฆthinking to myself, Hyundai isnโt the capitol of NM ๐๐๐
Itโs getting slow huh ?????
Really appreciate how you 'think out loud'. I always learn some interesting tidbit.
Wow. You didn't have to chain the vehicle to a tree, chain the wench to the other tree and wait for a hurricane to come along and pull em apart.
Yeah white flag then the Checker Flag for the Win Mrs. O!! And Very Special Thanks to the Cat!!!; )
7.58 insert baaaa sound effect
Great job.we all learn from u
I'd never heard of Fluid Film until your channel but they have started stocking it at my local Home Depot near Seattle, so now I have a can! It's probably all due to you.
Freak out and run like hell
Keeping an auto running in the rust belt must be really expensive because I have never even heard of a wheel bearing needing changing, but I live in the South.
Nice to see something that wasn't rusted shut!
just stop driving your wheel bearings in the left lane at 85mph daily, stop driving into every deep hole at 85 mph everyday, stop driving over curbs threw yards at 85mph, stop driving along cement curbs priming your wheels for new paint, stop towing 2500 lbs. more than the chassis was made for, dont pack 7 riders into your uber ride meant for 5, and even if your vehicle is 30 years old up to 200,000 thousand miles your wheel bearings will still be safe and quiet, that means slowing down helps. ha ha ha, no slowing down repairing wheel bearings at south main auto, roll em in and swipe that card.
Serious question here. Can your wheel fall off with rear bad wheel bearings? My 2012 T&C has bad ones in the back. Thanks
Nice work
The name โSanta Feโ means 'Holy Faith' in Spanish, and the city's full name, as founded, is and remains "La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asรญs" ('The Royal Town of the Holy Faith of Saint Francis of Assisi'). It is the capitol of the State of New Mexico, the 47th state to be admitted to the United States. In Santa Fe is the oldest capitol of any state, being founded in 1610 as the capitol of Nuevo Mรฉxico. The Palace of the Governors in downtown Santa Fe is 412 years old, which makes it the oldest building built by Europeans in the contiguous 48 United States.
awesome work awesome wife
Used up a week's supply of easy on that one.
Does this car have over 100k miles? Bearings are covered under the 10yr 100k warranty as it's considered part of the drive train. At least it is on my 2016 sonata. Bearings are spelled out as covered in my warranty book.
I changed out a front wheel bearing on a Santa Fe a tap and on the floor it fell easiest wheel bearing I ever changed
Great video Mr O. It's good to see you get an easy one for a change
You deserve an easy one sometimes Eric! Another Great Video! Appreciate all you do! ๐
Great Video!!
Finally! I can do this job!! Lol I bought some stuff from your store, your tool recommendations are spot on.
Still driving my Jeep Cherokee 2001 I bought new
Never needed this stuff
When I die
That will be when my Cherokee leaves my possession
I've been working on cars for over 40 years and still am out of all the new cars Hyundai and Kia are the easiest to work on I work on a lot of them
Less fighting to do your repair always is better
NAWWWWWWWWW I WANNA GIVE SCRITCHES TO THE KITTY CAT X3 X3 X3 SO CUUUUTE X3 X3 X3
great job thats the way they all look in Alabama as long as they haven't lived up there for a while
Luna star of sma.
โI was borne in the rustโ sma
I don't think I ever heard that kind of praise for an auto part design coming from you.
LOL
Great Video Eric. Thank you
No ๐ sound effectโน๏ธ, ahh ya made up for it with Luna๐ฅฐ
Eric, I really love your videos, I just wish you would give the odometer mileage on the vehicles.
Get the parts while you can they will be bankrupt after they settle the 2 billion dollar law suit
Cracks me up when Eric O talks to the shop Cat
If he\s waiting on a car from Carvana it\s a good thing he\s fixing this one. That car he bought might never show up.
Look how cheap everything looks. Give me dodge or give me death. Hellcat variety. Stage 4mods. No cats or original suitcases. I have outrun 4 cops already. ๐ฎโโ๏ธ hate themselves. I love my car. It's named "demon pussy" with the two after burning jet engines on it ….top speed is approaching 300. Full night vision only. Sometimes it's been known to throw rocks (pb)
Thatโs a very timely video. I have a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. And while changing from my summer tires to winter tires yesterday I grabbed the tire at 3 and 9 oโclock and noticed there was quite a bit of wiggle, so Iโm thinking the wheel bearing is shot too, but itโs still quiet as a mouse. Maybe Iโll have to take Eric up on his word โIf I can do it, you can do it.โ
Really love your videos but I wish you would give us the odometer mileage on the vehicles you fix.
Krown good for rust?.
๐๐
So disappointed I wanted to see some Thor/big nasty carnage
i work at the kia dealership you bought your sedona at! i like this design. those pins in theb acking plate rust out and parking brake falls apart when you try to change a bearing but you can buy the full backing plate assembly and youll get the fully assmebled shoes and hub its pretty sweet
I was looking out the window at work the other day (in Johnstown PA), A truck went by with the company name of South Main Trucking, I said to myself – That is cool. Are you diversefying?
As always you made another excellent video Eric!
Please wear a mask when cleaning that rust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ๐ท๐ท๐ท๐ท๐ท
Just did two front wheel bearing hubs on a 2012 Ram up in the Peoples Republic of Ontario for the last 8 hours. They fought me every-single-inch of the way! Chisels, air hammer, sledge and a 1/2 gallon of penetrating oil. Bruised cut and tired but I won. The truck put up a fight but gave in. Now I'm relaxing all proud at my accomplishment watching you knock out a bearing hub in less than 14 minutes. Sighhhh.
….
Thanks for the video
Tell us how many miles are on each vehicle please…
"Freak Out and Run Like Hell" — Love it!
It must snow in S. Korea. I suspect their engineers view wheel bearings as maintenance items.
Want to know if I can change my brake drums in the rear of my 2000 Camry LE to disc brakes? I have disc in front. Wanting to make the Camry very modern.
Time to play the lotto!
Eric O you realize the Y in Hyundai is silent right?
"We wont see this car ever again" – famous last words ๐
