Im literally having this issue!!! I’ve replaced the fuel pump, filter, all 6 injectors, did all value cover gaskets and air intake gaskets and spark plugs, and did the throttle body, was great when i first started it, idleing for maybe 15 minutes it started missing, then engine died, only code to pop up was a low idle, checked everything, started it again, did just fine, took it to work just fine, then had really hard time starting that same night, drove home luckily, and now i have this same exact code again, I NEVER THOUGHT OF THE O2 sensor… wish me luck… looking for part 2 of this video, bty i have the exact same car, 07 V6 3.3 sonata
I thought i had a bad 02 and changed it both of them and it didn't fix mine so now I'm onto checking for a vacuum leak low fuel pressure or maybe a injector leaking
Where did he buy gas last time?
I have a 06 hyundai sonata have code p0174 bank 2 lean could this be oxygen sensor I tried cleaning maf sensor but code came back
Yeah those little bottles of s"fix in a can" are great. I throw some techron in my home AC when it runs rough! Fixes it right up! When my wife's intake is acting up I give her some Seafoam. Awesome stuff. HA!!
Bad 02. Its a non or slow reacting sensor. Good call.
Looks to me that heater circuit on B1S1 isn't working. As its responses after the sensor is warm from the exhaust gas.
I fixed a P0171 & P0174 code in my 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 powered Holden VY SS Commodore last night,I bought a new fuel pressure regulator for the fuel sender unit & adjusted it to 60 PSI of fuel pressure, the old one had a fuel pressure reading of 51 PSI which was causing the PCM to throw the lean codes at idle speed in particular & the economy display to be erroneous.
A PR217 fuel pressure regulator fits apparently & is helping the fuel injectors atomise the fuel better !
I think looking at the data is really interesting. A side of mechanics work I never get to see
In my small town the mechanics say, "02 sensor, what's that? Can I change your tires? Maybe that'll make your pickup run better.
I would star by swamping the upstream O2 sensors with each other. Pretty quick, gets you further along. If the problem moves you know what you have…
The no start reminds me of a lot of fuel pumps, some I had to test under load on the highway before they would start to lose pressure.(Damned GMs.)
I have similar problem with my 3.3l 2010 Santa Fe(in fact I think is a 2009 , because the oil filter and the intake management are 2009) the lower intake not fit completely on the heads(to large, hence to high) and the size and the position (to low) of the gaskets. I see a lot of Hyundai stalling problems on the web not just on cold temperature. Very hard to see with the smoke machine( this bad combination of parts( with a variation on dilatation) create some kind of intermittent valve ). I'm very lucky to see it! I put my smoke between the lower intake and the block ( timing chain side) and I see a little curve on smoke, I try smoke everywhere and no apparent aspiration. I remove the gasket, I clean all, I put only ultra copper on both sides, I set this part together without tightening bolt ( create a thick rubber gasket drying 45minutes) remove bolts and put blue lock-tite on each and not too much tightening. Similar problems appear on real +2010 3.5 liters the new intake(plastic) has a throttle valve to create some restriction on lower rpm( and this thing break and some cylinder have no restriction and other have plain) The computer tries to compensate but after too much variations he probably cut the engine or the mixture can't burn ( to lean and to poor in some cylinders) This lean rich mixture finally burn probably on catalytic exhaust management. I think this is normally a recall for this(this chit can kill people, because the engine stop anytime, on a crossroad light on train track, on hill, and when I experience it few times, the engine stop, you louse break and power steering) Plus I much engines($$$) are dead for this.
wish i knew how to read that computer stuff like you do…
Thanks for the video.
Never boring.😳
This form of education, vicariously watching over your shoulder, with time to pause the video and think about what I'd do next, is gold.
good ole boy likes to exaggerate,
high resistance in the heater of the 02 sensor
Or clogged injector
Ice in the gas line?
keep making all of your great videos..
I have a Hyundai Tucson 2.7 with a PO171 code. The engine runs fine until I refuel. If the engine is running while refueling it will die. It is very hard starting for the first 2 minutes. Does that point to something specific?
there are the most sensor that go out
I would put all of them in
o2 sensor going to sleep needs sensor
awesome teacher your knowledge is priceless i have even a better understanding of o2 diagnostics and it did look like a slow response thank you ! right up there with your stretched chain VVT case study
I have had this p0171 code for s long and its completely annoying. Ive replaced intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, MAF sensor, pvc valve, checked for air leaks and absolutely nothing. Still have this stupid code.
I don't know anything about cars repairs but your videos are interesting .. like watching the history ch or a science show.. I'm loving watching and your funny also .. you should have your own show like counting cars
i had an ass of a problem with that dam p0171 code , cost me a rook a money to fix the darn thing
hey there! I've got an 2004 jeep liberty the check engine light is on, it's reading code P0171 when I turn on the A/C it starts to smell like gas..how can I fix this code?
That smoke machine is huge!
Hello
love your videos! love how desrciptive you are and how thourough you go through the steps. i cant exactly afford tech school right now, but i do some limited repairs and i work at a lube shop, so all this knowledge helps me out tremendously. reminds me of Schrodingers Box, which was funny because as soon as i came down to make a comment, there he was.
Wow Eric, this one seems to have grabbed everyone's attention. Must be a little mystery lurking in the shadows! Can't wait to watch the other parts! That's what's great about YouTube, I can go back into my mail and watch these vids when I get time, like today! This ones seems pretty interesting, wish I didn't wait so long to watch!
Twisted cam? 🙂 the first 6 minutes of the vid here kinda reminds me of the other car you did with the twisted cam.
You can tell right from get go it wasn't a true lean issues with fuel trims not getting better under load big ups to scanner danner i fixed lot of cars with his methods,.yes why wasn't freeze frame looked could of saved a lot of time in direction of diag.
Every car runs rich at WOT. Take the car for a drive, go WOT and record your data. Look to see if the wide open run drove the 02 sensor in question, rich. The days of spraying carb cleaner into the intake are gone. You should not have to leave the driver's seat to diag this one. Also, look at freeze frame, it will tell you a lot. Was the lean condition set at idle? If so that would be indicative of a vacuum leak. If it was set at speed, fuel delivery issue or air delivery issue such as MAF. That is a MAF car, not speed density I think. No need for the smoke machine. Good Luck.
Seems to me you're the kind of guy that would have swapped the O2 sensors on each bank, see if the slow response moved to B2 and then have 100% confirmation on either bad sensor or legitimate b1 lean intermittent issue.
Seems a P0133 would be more appropriate….Usually P0171 that code tells me to look elsewhere. Guess there is always an exception.
Hey Eric! Awesome video! I ended up pulling the plugs on that maibu and now they were fuel fouled! I threw in a new set…It fired right up then bogged out as if it flooded.. Well it did…That's as far as I got. Had to take care of some other cars.
Nice work! Quick and dirty fuel delivery check (a la ScannerDanner) is to go for a test drive and monitor the O2 sensors at WOT. If they all go rich when you "give it the beans" then fuel pressure and volume are probably OK. This test is great on the imports which don't have a schrader valve on the fuel rail to avoid spending an hour rigging up the fuel pressure gauge haha
This is the video from yesterday with less views and all the comments erased. What happened Eric?
did the new o2 sensor fix it??
Cool
