In this video I show an example of how a simple service update can "fix" a problem on a vehicle with no parts required. The computers on our vehicles need updates just like your home PC or smartphone. As your engine wears there may be service updates that the engineers have come up with to change tolerances. -Enjoy!

How do you know if your car needs to update the ecm?
Always irritates me when they ask you all these questions. It can pull the vin with basic ODB and then it should know far more about the vehicle than I.
I see that GM will sell me a years subscription of updates for one vin for $40
Often wondered about that when I was driving dump truck it was a newer mack and it always seemed to be in need of an update lol
what the fork " round or rectangular" must be an air mass calculation thing
I was a Kia mechanic and everyday we had computer updates. Make sure you update your computers. Very important.
Just last week I came across a video (others since then) showing how to update your Windows 7 machines to 10 for FREE. The update does require a few hours to download and update but it does work. No new license required.
Thanks for the update… Nice! ๐
Don't use "Paint" – try a program called "GreenShot" you can hit the PrintScreen key and it can save a screenshot to jpg automatically & display on your screen. I use it at work daily and it is very helpful.
Mitchell sucks
Good thing I just had a brand new computer flashed and installed to fix my air conditioner and a few other electrical issues! Ground was shorted. Also, that dirtymax rattles like something else, I don't think my old car with the majority of the bushings showing dry rot rattles that much!
80,008 miles? In 77 miles the odometer is gonna spell BOOBS
B
Great job again like always A+
2005 Duramax with 80k miles. Driveway ornament.
One question from a non-mechanic customer: do repair shops charge for the updates? or are they something that is "just done"? /hidden costs or 'must be included'? I have an '03, so don't have that kind of engine/computer YET.
would have watched the whole vid but you tub insists that I watch a comercial BYE
Need to turn on automatic updates for the old Chevy……
Please mention the scan tools you are using.
Now I know this is a thing. Wow!
Thank you for showing us this video & for the truck ride.
ERROR 404 "Turbo not found"
When you decide to update to Win10, you may want to just purchase a new laptop with 10 installed. Some of those 7 machines are not happy with 10 and software may be hit and miss. I hate computers. HA!!!!
The next Scotty Kilmer
Windows 7 is a great OS as far as Micro$loth goes. It beats Windows 10 hands down. I'd stick it out with Windows 7.
To be fair 80,000 is a very high mileage for a GM vehicle.
Well put. I think its still a good idea to check.
According to the subtitles, this is the "Self Made" or sometimes the "Self NATO" auto channel.
That's why you do a full delete and tune on all diesels.
80.008 miles you say.. turns calculator upside down
If you use the snipping tool for taking screen shots it is a lot easier.
Lol 80008
What about Powerchokes? Fords belong in the scrapper….junk
You have great content Eric! I really enjoy your videos, and learn a lot. Is that specific dtc available on snap on scan tools to see if the specific dtc had passed? That's a great function! Also what scan tool was that you were using?
Eric thankyou for all the great videos and info ! Thanks for getting back to me on your location too ! If you could recommend any reputable repair facilities in or around Rochester area Henrietta please let me know I would greatly appreciate it ! Enjoy all the videos and the hard work you put in ๐
Who knew you were a computer programmer? All this time I thought you were a mechanic.
FREAK OUT AND RUN LIKE HELL!! ๐๐คฃ๐
That's the next investment here, after a scope – a J-box and laptop. I've probably chased my tail a hundred times on vehicles like this without even realizing it. Besides, I'm sure my Silverado needs 100 or so updates by now … ๐ฌ
My Autel also needs a service update! Seven-LARGE for that. Always money to be spent around here … ๐ฅด
The ol' yard horse Dodge from my "Free tips from Meemaw" vid you helped me on was back in here today. The 4×4 shifter linkage busted in half … again. While under there, I noted that my lawn mower blades I welded to hold the whole front axle to the truck are still holding up well. ๐ Welded a big blob onto the shift linkage, and all is well. The Chinese food container wire is still holding the lower part in place, too. ๐
Thanks Eric…By the way, Your video intros are perfect now…(just my opinion)
And he should send GM the bill.
Awesome video and good information though for a busy guy you drove quite a ways.
What is the music at the end from? I need it! Another great instructional video!
For some reason the EGR cooler gets all pluged up. This will code you up.
Howdy from Texas! I spent all day at my mechanic shop waiting for them to finish my Toyoder and watch your videos. I hope my shop knows what theyโre doing. ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ
Incase of fire sign LOVE IT
Thanks for the video.
A good idea would be to make the sure the owner doesnโt have a performance program/tuner installed, otherwise when you update the vehicle it will erase the performance tune.
As much as i like all of your videos.. i dont have a scan tool, so they are above my head… patiently awaiting for a pounding return OF "BIG NASTY"
