Hey next time you have to do this on a Honda /Acura remove the heat shield and the converter come right out. At least that worked for me
Add a comment…
You are not a welder, but that machine is.
grinder and paint, make me the welder I aint
You should consider to use some copper grease on rusted overheated nuts and bolts.
If only you had the torch adjusted properly!!!
“I am not a welder.”
We know and love you anyway Ray.
“It’s not too small. It’s too thin, okay?” Shades of Deuce Bigalow
there was definitely a "That's what she said" moment there.
Great Video..
Love your videos man, that's was a pain in the @ss to get that job done
That is why I speak American, English is for them Brits
If you put a brass rod in the tube i will help and the steel will not stick to it . makes a smooth weld inside.
Ray I am sorry to have to tell you this, but I fear your vice may be displaying certain deficiencies!
I have an old 02 Tahoe and decided my high miles and poor mpg had a set of worn o2 and cats. No engine codes no dtc. When I had them removed one cat which rattled a little … had very little honeycomb left. in fact the guy said if I let it go it would prob break up and clog my muffler… never could quite figure why I always passed a smog test. I did notice my performance and power retuned.
I still remember the old days when you could climb into the engine compartment to get access to various items 😉😊
You got the skills Ray. Now you can come to Michigan and do this every day.
somtimes you can't win for loosing !
You know what they say about $3 304’s… But, that was some nice MIG work to fix your mistake! Likely, the warp in the pipe came from the heat applied in unusual fashion. I’d call you on the bad grammar if I didn’t realize that it was intentional. And, whoever called you on the “arrogance” for wasting a gallon of coolant? Yeah… they probably never ever made a mistake, right?
You never showed inside of the old cat… how were you for sure at the beginning it was the cat and not one of the sensors?
I work at a dealership… The only thing you should be slammed with is making me think i know what the hell I'm talking about.. i absolutely love a mechanics/techs expertise… You and the ones like you, are the shit
I'm a welding instructor in North Carolina, not bad for a rookie. I give you an A+.
Rust belt problem solver is the mighty tortch
My nuts stole up once. I went to the Doctor.
If every mechanic was like RAY no one would be broke down or paying out the ass for lil or nothing. My second most hated thing to do is take my car to a mechanic shop. My first biggest fear is the court house.
Here's to You mr. auto shop mechanic!
You did a good job of welding,….
Every good mechanic has to have an ego. I'm always telling my boss I'm a genius
Might as well take the engine out
In the past, I have just used a Dremel with cut off wheel to split the nut when it could be reached on those destroyed rusted nuts. Works fast.
Just watching your buddy.. He told your story.. UR great guy
LOL Torch next to flaming fluids lol Sounds like a good time
Have you ever tried to use Evaporust gel on rusted bolts like that? Seems like it might work well in that application, but it might take too long to…
I know that pain. Lol. Converters and those tubes are a stanles mix of metal I was told. Thats why their so miserable to weld.
Pro tip for ya, insert a price of copper or aluminum sleeve inside as a backer, it will help you build up a cover weld without worrying about burning thru. Then just pull the sleeve out and grind the outside, it won't stick to either material.
Next time make a sleeve to go on the outside& then weld.
When there's light at the end of the tunnel…ORDER MORE TUNNEL. 🙂
Ray seems to really love his job and has fun making his videos. Life is good when you love what you do all day.
I truly do enjoy seeing any welding projects. I have never had any training, aside from assisting my Dad, who was a professional welder years ago.
Disgruntled significant other 'There's nothing left of these nuts'.
Nice recovery on the EGR tube btw.
Why do not you use anti seize grease on the bolts when you reinstall them?
Level Up!! Welding Experience increased by 10!! (What's your opinion on "Nut Splitters?)
Great video Ray.
Them vans here Ohio, you go straight to the torches, you don't even try with a socket lol
I'm really perplexed with a lot of these videos by how many times I see the low tire warning light. In my town there are several gas stations that have air available for cheap or free and that's the easy maintenance everyone should do…
what a nightmare. ohh man.
IT’S ALIVE!!!
If you lived in the Midwest like me you would have that hot 🔥 WRENCH out ever day with exhaust bolts awesome videos ray
