In a previous video https://youtu.be/_ZBfkkFuSt0 I had a look at a MX5 Miata and found that it had a failed CMP CKP sensor. The new one is in and it is time to set the timing and ship the car done the road. -Enjoy!

Hey bro my Miata is the same thing there's no signals so I think it's the freaking sensor anyway thank you for your help
I got the same problem my Miata stop running and I checked the spark it's nothing coming from the sensor what do you recommend ?
Is there any way to see cam/crank signal without a $1,000,000 pico?
This sensor is going to get people killed if it goes bad the car stops dead on the road with no warning check engine light right ? Why would you add a sensor that when it goes bad the car stops dead in its tracks no spark and no fuel . I would rather have the engine run bad from going out of time that would give you enough time to get off the road than have a sensor that goes bad with out anything being wrong with the timing and get you killed . How do you bypass this sensor ?
fix the valve…
The dip stick was actually good on that car? Now it's like every Miata on earth. They have the cheapest oil dip stick on earth in those cars, they break if you breath on them. That valve lifter noise is a common thing with those cars at startup. Some people switch from 10W-30 to a 10W-40 because they have a pretty low oil pressure at idle and it takes time for the oil to get up there. I found with a good 10W-30 synthetic it only does it for a few seconds. I've just tried the Penzoil synth.for the first time and it works great with my Miata or Amsoil Sig. works but I had problems with Amsoil's XL series which is their not top of the line oil after around 4K miles on it. Damn lifters would go on for a min or so. Weird but it was bad enough to get a new oil change and I thought I'd try the Penzoil top of their line and it's worked the best for that lifter/oil issue at startup.
Why it sound like that? I bought one and it sounds just like that. Had been sitting for 2 yrs and I got it running
Thanks for the video, you saved me hundreds of dollars buy fixing my car myself, mine was the exact same issue
HI tad here from Australia I got a Toyota Tarago 1994 got no spark change everything I think it's a camshaft position sensor Toyota say no camshaft position sensor on this car b.s I think it's got me bug-eyed why no spark .can U help it's a tcr10 motor tar
Meat nuggets. LOL
Sounds like a Kubota LOL
Remembers me of my old Miata. It also had a ticking noise from the hydraulic valve lifters and I broke the dipstick as well. It had done over 350000 km.
Did you advise him that his valves need adjustment badly lol
i was forced to subscribe, my algorithm hasnt been feeling well lately… having said that, the miata is one of the best sports cars ever made. it took me years to admit that, as im a healey man myself….
I didnโt know they did a diesel Miata / MX5 ?
It a petrol 1.6 / 1.8 you say ? Oh……
Please please sort the tappets out, sounds terrible
Tell the people the truth Eric you've traded the Jeep heap in for a Miata!!!
Enhance enhance enhance enhance
Nice old school fix. Thanks Dr. O!
You can actually hear the change of the engine when you rotate that cam/ crank sensor. My old 89 F150 300 straight 6 was old school, had to disconnect the spout connector to adjust the timing.
That rig was 25 years old, then it must have not lived forever in upstate New York, isn't that right? No rust…
Did the car even have oil in it
breaking the dipstick is exceptionally common to the point where there are replacement grips for them 3d printed to epoxy on.
Tick
Tick
Tick
Tick
Tick
Tick
Tick….
"What happened to the dipstick?"
I BROKE IT !!!
Mr O how many miles did that engine have on the clock after 25 years……Sounds like a plane readying for takeoff……lol
The Miata's plastic dipstick loop gets brittle with age; they all break.
great video – how does a bad cam/crank combo sensor result in no spark and no injector pulse width? I still can't make THAT connection
Holy poop stains, adjust those cam followers!!! Truthfully it sounds like it's too late for that now. The lobe faces my be okay but the followers are most likely junk by now. Back in the days of youth, i got a 1980 Toyota celica gt with the 20r engine for cheap. Sounded almost as bad as this engine. New cam and followers fixed it – for the most part. The valves were right on the hairy edge of save them or toss them, i saved and held my breath for a few thou.
Eh, throw a half quart of Dexron in the crankcase and go drive it. Change oil and drive it some more. She'll be alright. Lol
My wife had one of those for years. Loved tinkering with it. SOOO easy to work on and fun to drive. As always, tks for bringing us along! Cheers to ice cream season!!
Lost my timing light when the ex burned down my garage, never replaced it.
Timing belt kit and maybe lifters too pls
You can always use the Universal Mazda Repair Kit: One gallon of Gasoline and a match.
The valves sound off to me also Eric O
Good video Eric O
adjust the valve lash out of pity for the old gal
hahahahah…. "IF you blow a fuse, its the wiper motor 20amp" not gonna bet… But I am feelin the knowledge came from experience.
he doesnt shave, thats drawn on.
That valve tappet needs to adjust. Sounds like diesel
Wonder did they use adjusters or did they have shims to adjust Miata valves? Thanks for clearing up how you knew that it was a 20amp fuse. Thought you might have shorted by accident. Yep, I have not used a timing gun since my first shaves too! Donโt even have a timing light any more. Donโt tell my Mrs but I might need one soon, if I acquire a certain project… Another great video Eric!
You always go above and beyond for your viewers. Thank you. As a youngn Iโve never seen a timing light in action and that is simple and sensible. Pretty cool.
Been asking alot but no answer is the Autel scan tool and scope any good
A wee ticky bugger. ๐
Thanks for the video. ๐
Which is quieter, that motor or a cement mixer ? Why would you keep a car that noisy ?
""big fat meat nuggets"" :))))
whew, sounds like a dead hydraulic cam follower. or someone lacked enough ZDDP and it needs cam/followers and more
Nice repair and adjustment
