The seatbelt indicator is because of weight being applied on the passenger seat
Like having groceries on there, it lights up
These cars are so poorly engineered it’s beyond stupid. They drink oil which generally results in serious engine damage for typical owners when they can’t even make it 3000 miles without being dangerously low on oil like this car. What they don’t leave on your garage floor they manage to burn via their stupidly designed PCV systems, poor rings, and defective turbos. Many of the VW and Audi 2.0 turbo motors need the entire valve cover replaced with the latest design tweak to “fix”PCV issues but the revised versions don’t fix anything. Welcome to “superior German engineering” folks. These cars are some of the least reliable and most expensive to own out of warranty in the world.
The belt sensor beeps cause of the cables laying on it. It is a capacitive sensor, the powered cable or devices will make it trigger. This is how it make the difference between a live body and a piece of ham.
if you have something on the passenger seat that is heavy enough….the car thinks you have a person in the seat…triggering the seat belt warning.
you should really wear your seatbelt.
this is sarcasm.
You think maybe the last place that did the oil change just made a mistake and forgot to add the proper amount of oil. Maybe got distracted and put in 2 quarts and someone distracted them and they just forgot they didn't finish?
That light was for the passenger seat belt, it's German.
Ahh the 1.8 lump, turbo'd versions can push over 400hp.
OK, I didn't see you clear the codes and then check it again and why not prowl under the seat to fix her seat belt light?
that low on oil, I totally expect to see silver/copper/gold glitter on the dipstick and it return sooner than later kaput. 😬🤯
My cell phone charger cable would cause my seatbelt chime go off but if I unplug it it would stop. Makes no sense.
I typically wait at least 30 seconds after adding oil before I check the dipstick.
I fully expect you'll find no loss of oil in 1000 miles… Which would mean the last oil change, they forgot to put oil in.
Does this engine have variable valve timing? If so, could the low engine oil have cause the vvt to not function correctly, thereby throwing the cam position code?
can someone point out some vid or article explaining what that pcb thing does?
dude, you know if you have a pcv issue and an oil loss issue the valves are coked! between that and carboned plugs its goin to have reduced performance. id at very least pull a plug & run a scope and verify. its a gdi- the valves are a mess pretty well guaranteed
Reminds me of a song. "better put a ring on it"
My Mazda has seat sensors, if anything in the seat is as light as a pound occupies the seat, it puts up the seat belt warning. Is that the case here?
Re the seatbelt light: It's a VW, they are only happy when then have lights on in the dash. 😇
So, did you lie to the customer stating that you were able to replace the sensor without pulling the intake? I assume you were talking about the oil pressure sensor which you didn't replace. Also was she charged for said sensor?
Most likely rings… That's the most common failure in the 1.8
Chains, tensioner and rings. VW TSI ftw
Ray, how could you not wear your seat belt on the second drive around yesh…😄
The seat belt alarm is for the passenger side, its your scanner. The seat belt sensor thinks there's somebody there sitting. It happens to me when I leave hot food or my phone
I bet any money on piston rings. Is a known issue on VW/Audi. Shitty engines. I had a a4 tfsi 1.8 consuming 1L of oil every 500km! Engine was rebuilt
low oil in a VW? that's a feature.
Burning past rings , that's a hell of a lot of oil in 1000 miles….. you should be able to see a wet exhaust with that amount of oil going through… and certaily a lot of smoke.Even through the pcv valve thats a lot for 1000 miles…
ok so it's 5.8qts total and it was short 4qts. I really hope the place that did the oil change didn't think a 1.8 l engine only takes 1.8qts. It is just really weird how the numbers lined up.
There have been a few in the UK on the 2.0 and 1.8 with reference to high oil consumption , if i remember correctly it involved a ceramic coating they used and that it affected quite a few cars .
A friend of mine had a 1.8 and had the engine repaired by the local VAG service garage and the bill was settled by VAG uk .
Maybe worth doing a bit of homework on this issue .
I think my friends car used about 1.5 litres in 1,000 miles but I know of others that have used 2.5 litres for the same mileage . I believe the pistons are the issue on my friends as they had an updated set fitted .
Thanks for another fine video , keep them coming Ray .
It's probably the computer in the passenger seat.
Most elevorate PCV valve I've ever seen. Oh, I forgot, Germans designed it.
Its a dub, 4 qts low is not that unusual, esp if its not using the correct spec VW 507 oil…
For PCV valves on VWs and Audis ALWAYS replace using the genuine part. I used a cheaper part and it was worse than the failed part!!!!!
And the guy you palm it off to to do the oil change should get a sample for testing.. If it has been running low I would be wondering how much metal is gonna be in the oil.
Isn’t it possible no oil was refilled 1,000 miles ago. Pretty hard to lose 6 quarts with no signs of leakage.
Check your tailpipe for residual oil, and pull a spark plug, like v8 magnum engines it will be evident its consuming oil with those indicators.
I've been watching you for a while, and i must say as European i am highly surprised you have so many VW cars with EU engines in US, are they imports? are they sold new there?
I have always been jealous how US gets nice powerful engines in same cars we have but ours is a max 2.0L, i didn't think European brands even bothered to provide US with below 2.5L engines, a standard modern VW nowadays is a 1.4L TSI, even a VW AWD one has it.
TBH I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Jiffy Lube guys just forgot to put oil in it. 🤣
WOW very interesting super kool ,1st class great info.,, AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot ,keep up the great work.
If that much oil made it out threw the rings in a 1,000 miles, I'd think you'd know it by just idling and smell lol. I've had a Dodge neon for cheap, it used a quart of oil every 4 days, The oil ring on number 2 piston was gone, found pieces in the oil pan, Ran it like that until I found another Crysler for scrap with a good 2.0 engine and swapped it. That thing flooring it would smoke out a garage lol
1.8T on VW is notorious for piston ring wear causing oil consumption which is why a lot of oil gets used.
as a gti owner, the pcv is the most likely culprit seeing as how mine came used with a blown diaphragm and was 2 quarts low.
The P0341 was due to low oil level, there are only four DTC's for cam position, three are circuit codes and P0341 is performance/plausibility, not enough pressure to operate the cam phaser. The fuel system lean/air leak code was real, had you observed fuel trims, measured crankcase vacuum (before and after your "repair") and smoke tested the intake system, you could have easily confirmed the operation/failure of the air/oil separator/PCV, not just "guessed". My "crystal ball" indicates that the oil consumption will continue at a nominally reduced rate, until you soak and clean the oil control rings on the pistons. This accumulation of sludge in the "scraper" ring is due to incorrect oil spec and neglected service intervals.
My first guess is that not enough was put in last time. It is more common than you think. Good strategy though.
that warning light for the belt, it's not passenger presence sensor…those don't have that. it's the sensor where the seat belt locks, so lock the seat belt and try to force it down or pull it and see if the light goes away.
so why are you wearing a seatbelt what a seat belt were is one live lol
My 2013 does the same thing with the seatbelt light on the passenger seat, If you have 12v power around it. If my phone is on the seat, no issue. If it is has a charger attached it will come on. if i move the phone with charger attached to the console, the light goes off. Put it back on the seat, light comes back on. Strange i know
