In this video I show you the process I use to knock out a front wheel hub and speed sensor on a 2014 Nissan Altima. It a pretty painless job even with the corrosion.

Oh I guess computers and code trouble shooting is ok. But rust, grease and dirt along with maybe, an appearance by Mr Big Nasty is so much more fun.
Aviation industry A&P mechanic for 30 years here. I see no issue here. 😉 And split pin/ cotter pin. Call it whatever ya want man.
Hey Eric been watching for awhile was wondering if you can give me some help. I’m trying to my buddy with his 2008 Buick LaCrosse he lost his keys and got a new key made by a locksmith the car started that day but unfortunately the battery was bad the car sat for a long time. After a few weeks we put a battery in it and now it does not start. Throws a B3031 code security system not learned it has something to do with the key. I done the 3 10 minute learn procedure but did not work any ideas on what to do? He spent 300 on a locksmith for this key and they are giving him a hard time on coming back out
Somewhere, somebody is confusing 1620 inch pounds with foot-pounds. Cursing happened, and a professional will be called.
Where's the test ride?
I like looking at the homes
Reminds me of younger days
I cant get through these. This guy is really obnoxious.
Is it normal to have fluid leakage at the axle boot when it was lose?
Thank you for the goat noises! Made my day! 😂
Almost never heard them referred to as split pins down here. Cotter pins almost exclusively and to get home when necessary an appropriate size nail. BTW, down here is Georgia.
don't think it matters much, but will the speed sensor be ok since you routed it differently than it was taken out?
Apparently, you've never had your head strapped into a vise while the eye doctor picks the metal fragments off your eyeballs with a needle syringe. While the eye doctor has the needle resting against your eyeball, he'll ask you not to blink. Make sure you don't blink.
I've always called them cotter pins.
So what is a cotter pin?
Why do you suppose they went to the effort of making that original hub into a funky shape when the replacement was just round? Seems odd.
Yay a nuts and bolts video.extra crusty.
Cotter Pin…. Welcome Back Kotter …. In your nose …. 😃with a rubber hose! Thank you Eric, the old brain went off like a pin ball machine with one bing to the next hahaha
Did you fix the ladies coolant leak that was dripping on the cv boot?
I love the sheep sound effect
I've been watching your videos for years. I always get a good laugh when that New York accent comes through. Mom's family is from New York and the old man's family is from North West Florida on the gulf coast. Mom used to tell me when she met my father while he was stationed in New York, that she thought that the only thing that came out of the south, was rednecks and stump jumpers. I spoke with my aunt (aka – ant) the other night, and she still lives in New York. Her accent and at the speed which she speaks, I had to tell her to slow down and speak to where this country boy could understand her.
Love the videos and the great work that you do, keep it up chief.
Hiya Eric
potato or tator, split pin or cotter pin, same diff.
how many air tools did you use in that little clip.
Hi, Mr. O. Yup. I would have broken off the speed sensor. Thanks for pointing that out. And by the by, I do worry that you are not taking care of your lungs. I know what coal miners get: Black lung. What do auto mechanics get? Vitamins and tea from their lovely Mrs. O. That's what. Take it easy Sir Mechalot! Take care of your castle, Joyous Garage.
Sound like you should get with cleeter and try the no bolts in wheel bearings at the freedom factory in a "controlled environment"..hahaha
I disagree. If you can do it there's alot of people that can't. You are super amazing
They make those B-12 pills in a cherry flavor. FYI (FYI can mean two things. This means the good thing) Steve
For the rusty wheels that are stuck on, i use my 5lb dead blow rubber hammer works good never damages any wheels.
The speed sensors i soak in deep creep and use my small air hammer around it, breaks up the rust.. then just a twist with a pair of pliers and out it comes.
The smell of fluid film is something else..
your half shaft leaking grease sir
From the land of "OZ" you and rainman sre the best mechanic's on youtube👍👍
Ah drilling out the speed sensor. Good times. And you forgot the never seize prior to install😂😂😂😂
The interior CV joint was leaking like a sieve!
Good work, sir.
I love watching a professional work.
the shaft need to be replace there is greese everywhere
More than once I've had all the bolts out of something and the only way to break it free was to lower the car back down, and sometimes even then the rust wouldn't let go. Some days I wonder why I live in this soon to be frozen hell.
Nice method being the boss on that speed sensor with the Dewalt !!
I love watching your videos, even I have dune it be for, you might do something faster
I don’t know about a “New York Nissan” but I’d bet $1000 that you could remove the wheel bearing bolts out of a Michigan Chrysler thats been through through a winter or two with no problems.
Eric O,
Off topic… How did Mrs O make out with the Power Stop brakes you installed on her van?
I was thinking about getting a complete set for my 2001 Honda Prelude.
Thank you
Last chance tool is the first tool used. Outstanding.
cotter keys….LOL
Perfect timing, you put in the split pin ( aka in America cotter pin ). As your saying if you're from NASA or an expert, it sounded like the kids screaming in the background, I said to myself there are the experts screaming around the world LOL
Where those Flintstone chewables 😆
The question about how long a New York wheel bearing would stay in with the bolts removed might be a great experiment for the great Stuntman.
I wonder how well the all electric cars are going to stand up to the New York winters….
Inner CV joint look bad too.
I don’t know why, but the Fluid Film and brake cleaner sound effects always make me laugh right out loud.
Another video with Eric wearing his safety squints….Do we all need to chip in and buy you a real pair of protective eye wear? They do make "readers" ya know, bi-focal lenses in different powers if you need them. Take care of your eyes if you want to see Mrs. O age gracefully and the kids grow up.
Atlas
Should have checked that CV boot, prime example of untrained incompetent wannabe mechanics, we would never forget about something like that in the trailer shop
Love the video. I have purchased many Astro tools watching your videos.
just did one on a honda pilot that tool would of been helful2 hours of air hammering and it finally came out
We love you Eric, please wear a mask!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I live down here in Alabama where it takes 30 years to get corrosion that bad that is to say the car wears out before the rust kills it .
I think it’s a water shield if on a Land Rover, a splash shield if on a Ford Mustang, and a dust shield if you’re buying it from Dorman.
yep when we get old we need to start taking vitamins. i also have low iron so i need to take iron tablets with my vitamins lol
That bolt missing out of that plastic!!😖
Another good video
Thanks for the videos
Keep it coming Eric O
That hub puller looks like a better approach than the tried and true "heat and beat" method. Also, the dust shield was in pretty good condition for having lived 8 years in the PRNY. Maybe the owner "winters" down in FLA. Thanks for the video!
Classic Mr o!!!
I live in upstate ny and have a snowblower that hasnt had bolts holding one of the pulleys for the v belt that drives the auger for pushing a decade. pully still wont fall off.
Great video. But did you notice the cv axel going into the trans the boot is leaking.
Awesome video Mr O I had tried everything on my 2nd gen dodge for the driver side wheel bearing last year. A bolt and a nut wouldn't even work trying to push the hub out because it decided to become one with the knuckle here in Northeastern Pennsylvania after it being on for who knows how long. Several hours with the air hammer, torch, sledgehammer, tried using the power steering to break it loose a couple times which didn't work. Finally though after some hours and hours of heat, the sledge, air hammer, and some penetrating oil it decided to give.
I envy your shop & supplies. At this point in my life, if I were to hit the Lottery, my house would be a bungalow, but I'd have a 4 bay garage with multiple lifts and all kinds of goodies…particularly since my body done got all puny and old when I wasn't looking. :/
“Split pin” 😂
Old man Cotter would be rolling in his grave if he heard his pins called that.
anyone who worries about what you call a cotter pin or split pin doesn't have enough to do.
Mrs. O, knows how to treat her husband like a man!👍
No loss of trust on this video! Your recording/editing is great 👍!
The cotter pins are to be inserted from left to right then the bottom half must be bent over before the top.
Just messing with you. Great job as always. Ignore comments like above; you know what you're doing.
Logical conclusion, “He keeps doing it, so he must like it “. 😝
Why don’t you promote your other channel? I have been watching this channel for years and only found out about your other channel a couple of weeks ago.
I liked the Rainman Ray brake clean intro lol
GOOD JOB SIR!!! THE OBSERVATION OF A PATTERN AND ROUND HUB TO REMOVE RUST IN ROTOR…I HAD SIMILAR PROBS WITH GLASS…BEEMERS, JAGS, MERCEDES, PORSCHE, DOOR GLASS MUST BE OEM…GEOMETRY OF GLASS IS HUGE TO KEEP WIND WHISTLES OUT…AFTER MARKET CHEAP GLASS NEVER FITS…
Good video like your farm sound affects
I would love to see the video where the vehicle is driven with no bolts holding the corroded wheel bearing in place. I've seen a few cheevies here in Iowa that would likely make it a long way before falling out!
Thank goodness the lovely Mrs O showed up with her new designer gown, fresh hairstyle, and of course boutique eyeglasses.
hows screaming in the background
You seem like a good guy. Good family man. I wish you would wear a mask, avoid breathing in all that dust.
Nice wheel bearing video Eric O. Appreciate the videos buddy 👍
@SouthMainAuto should copyright the brake cleaner and fluid film sound effects bits
NAPPER! I’ve been through two NAPPER “FLEET QUALITY” wheel bearings in 12 months on my super duty. Gotta go back to Ford at this point. Great video nonetheless. Sometimes it’s the way you gotta go, heck it was for me!
And another one !
Every move you make, every step you take is the right one, with the right force applied to it, at the right angle and obviously on the right part; it is almost therapeutic to watch.
Well, color me surprised. I didn't realize Eric still turned wrenches. I thought they just keep him around the garage to play with the scan tool. 😛 j/k
If you send me your drill bits Eric, I'll sharpen them at the correct angle for you 😁😃
You should’ve got out the borescope and showed the cross hatching in the speed sensor hole
Axles leaking on the inside.
Eric O winter is coming, greetings from California.
I would be very careful with those karate kicks, all the impact of the force is absorbed by your knee. I have heard many people cause irreversible damage to their knee doing stuff like this.
Only one tin of brake clean Mr O, that`s so last week. 🤣
The inner axle boot doesn't look good and something is dripping out of it.
Was eating spaghetti and the fluid film baaaaahhh sound made me pass a string out my nose! Funny ,but not funny.
Eric, I love you, but I worry about your eyes. Can you get some sexy safety glasses? Cheers!
Another fine SMA Repair! I'm sure you saw the wet looking inner CV boot. Part two?
