In this video I show how if you rush through a diag and make the right call but end your diag there it can come back to burn you. Even though you did nothing wrong and found a problem the light is and will come back on. To you or I this is no big deal but to a frustrated customer this can be a hard thing to explain. What are your thoughts? -Enjoy!

Whether your parents or shop teachers, kudos to the person(s) who taught you to be thorough.
hyundia vehicles are pretty good vehicles
I did that on my car, left the unit unplugged. But, I did find it myself too.
"If I can do it, you can do it". True perhaps in a perfect world. Excellent Video!
Xtra ๐ funny
I remember back about 1979 as an apprentice working at a Fina gas station with full serve gas pumps seeing one of my first Subaru cars. There was a big warning label on the rear window about 6โ โs from the gas filler door saying to not overfill or round up as damage could occur to the emission system. I wonder if the filter you showed is damaged and plugged for this same reason. I think though the years as emission system came to be sealed on North American cars same warnings were given but in fine print in the owners manual and now online since books are not made available anymore. If I was reading this last year I would have said when the pump clicks off at $ $47.79 , dont round up to $50 but now its more true to say $67.70 , dont round up to $70
Hey "Steve," if you're looking at these comments, please know that I have been there and done that. ๐
Biggest waste of time, energy, and money. All the way around.
Those filters get plugged when people habitually "top off" their tanks right? When the pump kicks out, just stop.
Anyone who's never left something disconnected hasn't worked on enough cars to call themselves even a part qualified mechanic.
Plug it in, charge 150 for stupidity
Yeah I have dual port evap solenoid chev uplander 08 code is 0449 but fuel going good
Most would have stopped at the unplugged vent valve nice job Mr. O !
๐๐๐
Dude!!! Youโre the best now come fix my sh&t!!! Evap code and P0300-304 codes all at once!!!
2001 Audi TT 1.8T
Good that you went above and beyond and found 3 problems
(ghost writer) "well, there's your problem lady!"
thanks
Great video Eric!
I'm a tech for a fleet of utility trucks and you have helped me immensely with your videos. There's book smart and then there's knowledge that comes from experience. You, sir, have both! Kudos.
I've been enjoying your repair videos for a while now, and today this one popped up. Coincidentally, my son has a 2010 Sonata with an evap system problem (P0456 very small leak). Your video gave me some very good information to help us find and fix the leak. Love your easy-going approach, and great humour!
Great videos. Learning a lot from you. Just learned my my old ram truck was almost impossible to fill with gas.
Thanks.
Eric, is it by choice you have no sponsors, or I they too shy to sponsor you, because of your honesty..?
The Bob Ross of the auto repair world. Eric is a car artist.
I had connectors come apart on their own
Are there any vehicles that have a Evap Filter within the canister?
I have such an interesting story about my Land Rover D2! … it is an older one, been in a collision at some point. I was on my way for an inspection, drove through a water puddle, which splashed water up, and immediately the Check Engine light came on, then failed the inspection.
Problem, water did not guy up and then down the fresh air intake, oh, no, no, no! Water dripped down between the United and the engine compartment, and dripped water on my ECM. After resetting codes, pressure testing, amp testing, … and replacing every fuse in the engine compartment (20+ year old vehicle), my mechanic son still was not able to get codes to stop appearing. I, me, took the ECM out, and discovered it was still WET. I dried the ECM, put it back in place, and bodda-bing, bodda-boom, the vehicle was happy. Passed inspection!
Now, I just figured out that the D2 sunroofs might not "need" a water seal gasket, after putting a fresh bead of silicone around the exterior of the rim, my leak in the back stopped!
Trust but verify. If you are busy with life, you may skip over something.
I wonder if the parts canon still warm. ๐ค
How many trips to Auto Zone for one brake job?
Let's see what's in your Wallet
I find it so frustrating that a literal pinhole can throw your entire car for a loop. Especially when it comes inspection time. So few mechanics around me ever take it that far. If they cant fix it by installing a new sensor they say its the ECM and then won't take the car back after.
Your cars there in New York State seem to rust very badly, and VERY heavy rust at that. I'm glad that here in Australia, we don't get snow here at sea level, because there in America, the council uses salt on the roads to reduce ice, which then gives you rusted out sub frames etc. You would think that cars that are being built for ice conditions would have stainless steel sub frames and structures under the cars, or some kind of impenetrable coating to stop this massive rusting problem.
would a laser help find the smoke?
Love your channel
I'm having an EVAP problem on my vehicle I drive it 20 minutes go in the store come back out and the fuel pump makes a gurgling sound ..engine won't start until I let it sit and turn the fuel pump on and off do I have a vent problem
Mechanic asks customer on phone "What type of vehicle is it?" customer replies "Well sir, it's Sonata Hyundai."
I have a air conditioning clutch that don't come on ? What could be the problem??
If itโs a Ford. Purge valve. Trust me. Purge valve.
I wish that there was a mechanic like you in South Florida!
I had an 04 caravan with the big um 6cyl.
Sometimes when I tank up, the thing would run for a little while then die. Then have a hard time starting. Leave it sit for a bit and it would start right up and run fine till you tank up again.
Maybe that filter, if it had one.
I worked with a few mechanics tell what was wrong with a car by the last part they changed ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Great video!
That you are a master mechanic and very intelligent we all know but, what is rarer, we wonder, where did you get your excellent ethical values from?
another job well done.
You sure seem to get loads of issues in the rust belt!
Iโm in NZ n never see such issues! Recently has a GM product with vent valve fault the one on engine so my mate hooked up a Toyota used valve n code gone! As simple as that n no $175 part as a used Toyota part was enough to fix the issue
Good Job, AGAIN, Pal!
You also have a fine setup … and a WONDERFUL FAMILY.
THAT, Plus Health … Trumps all!
Tip: Stop blowing on those "No Provenance Shown" (aka where have these been?) Hoses! ๐
I just wanna know where you get your sayings. My grandfather always said "good shape for the shape you're in" and "can't get there from here". Never heard either from anyone in 45 years but now I hear you saying them. He and my entire U.S. lineage are from Clarence NY (suburb of Buffalo). Plus he was a WWII vet. So those are either old army sayings or we're related lol
How the hell is a car that recent already rusting?
Steve keep your tool Mr O sell those 41 viewers that thumbs down this video
Nice find!!๐๐
