Do to the high demand I made a video for you on how I repair a brake line and what that procedure looks like. This 2005 Aztec came in and gave me the perfect opportunity to do so. Hope you enjoy 🙂

You make it look easy, I'm sure it's a little harder laying on the ground with the car up on jack stands.

You're right. I have never bought a flaring tool. AZ is great for rust free vehicles as long as they have lived there life in the valley.

You forgot to put the spring material on that new brake line made Eric when are you going to learn they put that on for a purpose so you don't ding it especially when it's on suspension parts .

Getting ready to replace all the lines on my 2006 Expedition. Had a metal line pop, figure if one went the rest aren't far behind. Replacing all the flex lines too because why not while I'm draining the whole system. Replacing steel lines with Nicopp lines shrouded in stainless steel spring guards, and all the fittings with stainless steel. Figure if I'm going to do it, do it once. Lines and fittings should outlast this drivetrain and the next one I'll put in it since the body is rust free (amazingly for one in my area). Just stopping by for any tips my favorite YouTube mechanic may bestow upon me. Despite nearly 30 years that I've done all of my own mechanic work(and that of others) and being pretty well seasoned at this point, I know I can always stand to learn something from this guy.

Eric is the best damn mechanic on the net hands down!!

    Edit for viewers:

Angles and flares in a nutshell:
Angle refers to the angle between the flare and line at the NUT SIDE of the line.
45 Degree flares = Mostly American.
37 Degree flares = AN standard, likely to never see unless working on aircraft or custom setups.
DIN/ISO (90 Degree bubble flares) = Mostly European, Ford beginning in some year that I don't know.
45 and 37 can then be single or inverted flares, single flares are illegal to use in braking systems driven on public roads because they are dangerous. No, just don't.

Well done brother, took all the hocus pocus right out of it..
Was trying to be super careful with lines….. like your snip technique 👌

Can you gravity bleed the ABS unit? I was redoing my brake system. My master cylinder ran down overnight since my line plug leaked. I ended up going to the dealer. If you can’t gravity bleed the ABS is there a way to properly bleed the system? You may never see this question, but in any case, thank you for your VIJAYOs. 🙏

Been a subscriber now for a few months, seen just about all of your videos for the last 6 years. Really enjoy them. My favorite part is at the end when you say " Remember, if I can do it you can do it" Yep if I had $85000.00 in scan and other tools I could do it to :o) I'll just have to be happy watching you do it. Keep up the good work.

Great job Mr. O Especially your detailed info on making the flare and bleeding the system. Surprisingly, a lot of people don't know about copper/nickel brake line. Soooo much easier to bend and work with than regular steel line and lasts a lot longer than steel. Great vid and very informative for the DIYer's. Thanks!

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fard Ali says:

Thank you for making this video and the tons of advise you give. I have to replace all the lines under an Olds Alero here in Michigan. I was going to order pre-formed line for almost $200.00 but now I'm going to make my own.

The worst is the late 90's caravans where the flex line goes through the hose clamp on the shock…the clamp rusts eventually squeezing the flex line completely shut…seizing the caliper. Totally undetectable unless you've experienced it before.

Well, it was August 2020 on my way to my doctor the day my brakes went it was only one line driver side 2003 ford expedition .. called three mechanics first one says he refuses to do brake lines the second one was to busy the third one told me his brake line person was not in that day and he was the only one that could do it because he was licensed to do brake lines, he said you had to be a licensed brake line specialist here In NYS.. I changed the line that was rusted from the abs driver side to the rear wheel I also changed two of the master cylinder lines, bleed and it's now December and brakes are great!.. This is the material I use bought from amazon.. ford truck uses bubble flair..bought the flair kit from amazon also.. my first time ever doing a brake line.. I figured if I can replace my transmission cooler lines this should be a piece of cake.. I'm a pro photographer that's what I do for a living..( Muhize 3/16 zinc coated 25')

I'm still learning, can I get the name of the line, and where I can get it.looks like quality stuff I need for any mistakes I might make.or, gonna make

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars NorKed says:

An old video, but have to comment.
When i do a brake job, the first thing i do is to depress the brake pedal with an inverted trigger clamp between the pedal and the seat. This closes of the valves in the master cylinder and stops fluid from leaking when u do your work. And no need for hose clamps 🙂
Wonder if there is a reason u don't use this method?

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Harrison says:

Even put the nuts on going the wrong way once one of those really long days when nothing wanted to go right.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Harrison says:

Yep both been there and done that with both inverted double flairs and bubble flairs

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Harrison says:

Lol 10s of hundreds of thousands of brake lines I'm sure

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Just2362 says:

I did a great flare on a line still in the car but forgot to put the fitting on first, man was I mad at myself. There was not enough line left so I had to run a whole now line.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars General Disarray says:

It's a pleasure to watch you work. I wish I could find a mechanic near me that is half a good as you, and would take a bit of pride in their work, rather than just churning out garbage work…

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kameron Stout says:

All the cars I’ve owned here in WV have needed brake lines. Everything just rusts off!

  50. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Glen Johnson says:

Do brake lines have to be a double flair or is a single flair good enough??
