Come along with Eric O. at the SMA shop as he has a look at this 2011 VW CC Sport with a 2.0 that has a customer complaint of running rough and a loud squealing noise coming from engine. Upon pulling codes we have a P0300, P0171, P0506, P0302, P0301, P0303, P0304, P119A and a P2187. Believe it or not these are all caused by one faulty part. Amazing what a little internal vacuum leak can do. Stay tuned to see the fix!

I have a very similar issue, same engine. Yanked the Dipstick / Oil Cap while running, and noticed a very erratic idle, high vacuum, etc.

My question (If you're still following these old videos) is, do you remember how the idle was?

On a cold start my car will start to slightly rev on it's own at idle, it will just bounce the throttle if that makes sense. Just wondering if that's similar to what you meant here with the title of the video.

One of my favorite customers has a 2009 Tiguan with the two point slow. Came in with multiple issues like this one and it did have a few weak coils and original plugs. Replaced all four plugs and coils, performed Italian tune up and it drove great for a few hundred miles before it started acting up again. No lean codes but the plugs were awfully white.

remember when a pcv was a simple cylinder tube with ball bearing and spring? seriously they must do this over complicated crap on purpose just so it breaks and they make more money.this is why i love pre 2000s cars.

My 2012 passat sel premium 3.6 started idlimg wilding out the blue. Turned out it was the pcv valve built into the valve cover. Bought the part from 1a auto costed me 110 next day delivery. Paid my buddy 100 bucks of case of beer and a new obd scanner and viola im back good as new. The dealer qouted me 1800 bucks fucking pigs ๐Ÿ– ๐Ÿ˜ค!!!!

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rex James says:

This comment is probably 4 years late but can this cause a rough idle without engine codes or check engine light?

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars PA Powrstroke says:

Always check rear main seals on these 2.0 when oil separator fails will cause rear make to blow out and can cause lean codes see it all the time at the dealer

What stupidly complicated design for a scavenging system.

Question. I just changed mine on a 2013 Volkswagen CC sport and there wasnโ€™t really much suction on the oil cap or oil dipstick but there was a lot on the pcv oil separator. After putting in the new one the suction went to the oil cap and oil dipstick but no more on the pcv separator.

Do you have any idea why this could be happening? Is this normal?

I wish I lived near you Lol… I need some help….. So my 08 cadillac cts4 never ran rough at idle or had any misfires… So I went and had a full tune up done.. Intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets and spark plugs.. So after that my car runs rough only at idle and when i stop at a light.. And if you put your ear to the mufflers you can hear a slight misfire.. Can you offer any advice on what to do next.. One more thing I hear alot of air passing through the pcv line that runs from the top of the intake to the pcv valve..

Looked to be an easy job. Everything easy to get to. Didn't have dozens of hoses, wires, and brackets blocking. I've read through many of the comments. It appears that most don't like VWs. I'm finishing up a 2000 golf diesel. Rebuilt the front suspension and had to pull intake manifold. Heavy blockage, carbon build-up. 398,000 on it. It ran good before I started on it. Should be like new.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Maniata says:

    Hello,
Wondering if you could help me with the same engine type but on Volkswagen Tiguan 2012 (2.0 TSI)
Car ran fine until yesterday there huge whistle noise from engine . Engine idling is rough. Then P0507 code came on. I try to pull the engine oil cap out while engine is running, engine want to stall as there is strong vacuum in engine. Few google search and convince that the pcv valve is the culprit for whistling noise. I replaced with VW OEM part. Engine is now running fine. I reset the code . Open oil cap, still there is strong vacuum and engine wants to stall again. What else could I check for?

    What I replaced so far:
1/ new pcv valve from VW
2/ plastic hose from turbo , there are two seals . I replaced just the small one that is about 1/4 โ€œ in diameter because I have one in my spare O-ring kit

    Current issue:
Canโ€™t have the engine running without oil cap or oil dipstick remove.

    Help!
    Thanks for your time,
    Mannig

Hey man, vwโ€™s operate in the same way as ford and the rest. The fuel system will switch from open to closed loop as soon as the ecu receives a signal from the lambda sensor. This will happen as soon as the sensor is hot enough and begins generating a signal. A brand new car can switch from open to closed within one minute of startup. An older car or older sensor may take 2-3 mins. If it takes longer then the sensor is lazy. If it doesnโ€™t switch to closed loop then usually the sensor is knackered. You can check with your scope. Also remember if sensor 1 is cooked sensor 2 will still tell the ecu that the car you just repaired is now running very rich. I believe sensor 2 does influence the ecu somewhat on fuel trimming although sensor 1 (regulating probe) is the main boy for that.
