In this video I work on a 2006 Saturn Ion 2.4 with engine codes P0300, P0171, P0507, P1174. The customers complaint was rough running, poor performance, erratic idle and over all just "didn't run right". Come along as I check this car out and see what is wrong.
NOTICE: Car will be returning at a later date to be repaired so check back for the confirmed fix ๐Ÿ™‚

So hey I can hear a leak coming from the intake manifold of this 2.2 ecotec I'm working on. The only code over got is 303 but after putting a new ICM on I got a 300 and much more violent misfire. Put the old ICM back on and it's back to normal, misfiring only when up to temperature. I'll definitely do the brake cleaner test and go from there.

Hey buddy I have a 06 Saturn ion same motor same exact everything but I have had the car tested at Advanced Auto which that place is horrible and excuse my language but they have shitty parts.. but anyway I also took it to AutoZone an the test came back to be the same thing 1 random misfire an 2 which leads to whenever I stop to put fuel in it and then I would crank up the car but won't run until I feather the gas pedal so I would start it again an fires right up but I have to hold it at 2rpms for 3 to 4 minutes after that it'll run ok but if I let right then it'll stall out but the car did keep on cutting off me sometimes while driving an stopping anywhere but I took some carb cleaner and took off the air intake an sprayed it so now it quit doing that for now just does it whenever I put any amount of fuel in it.

Hey Eric heres one. I dont have the scanner to view live data. Heres the issue. 2000 silverado 2500 hd with a 6.0. 265k on the clock. Very suddenly it starts idling very high. p0507 code thrown. i clean the throttle body properly, use a multimeter to check idle air, and remove and clean it. i check my tps and clean it. i cleaned my MAF sensor with the proper stuff. i check for intake leaks using a flammable spray, and the soapy water way. The engine idles very high on cold start(1500rpm) when its warm its 2000. it stays high when you drive it to. The only thing i havent checked is the PCV valve. i also havent taken off the intake manifold yet. i suspect oil may be in it. Also a side note. it starts throwing a No communication from MAF to o2 bank one. i uplug the MAF while its running. It stays running. I change the MAF. same deal.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Patrick Lions says:

what kind of scan tool/software is that?

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rick Uyeda says:

There was another site where the problem was a piece of plastic fell into the throttle body, keeping the throttle blade open. Taking the piece out so the throttle blade could close all the way cured the problem.

I always look on the scan tool to see if the lean condition is happening at idle. if so, then I look for vacuum leak.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Anthony Filice says:

Good diagnosis. I'm confused though how an intake leak would cause a lean code, I thought it would cause a rich code because metered air escaping but the determined amount of fuel is still entering the cylinder. Can someone explain this to me?

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Gill says:

Nice job Eriic. I enjoy your videos as much as my guy Scanner Danner

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dan.vaku says:

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Octavio Lara says:

what if you get code p0171 & p0174 and bank 1 oxygen sensor code..would that be the oxygen sensor causing both lean conditions ?

Those Saturn engines are good from my experience. I've recently done a compression test on one with 175K miles on it and it showed 185 PSI across the board. I thought that's impressive! Maybe it was just a well maintained one,I don't know…

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars just life says:

Good video i have a 97 Avalon xls with code 125 and 135 and both say bank 1 sensor 1 are they the same air fuel sensor heated can one code be responsible for another tnx

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Toyota Tech says:

I cannot believe 'the internet' didn't fix that guys car! Perhaps injectors and solenoids were cheaper than a half hours diagnostic? Nice video Eric. I hate customers on Internet forums! The labour rate should double if the words 'on the forum it says…' Come out of the owners mouth!
