Man I am a recovery driver and most of the bad collisions I deal with are all from people rushing running late. You have got your head screwed on my friend. Once you are late, you are always going to be late that day so there is no point rushing. On a normal day you are far more in control and thinking clearly about what's going on around you, when you are late all that goes out the window. Sticking to safe speeds when you are late is one of the smartest things you can do
Late for work and then get a super gravy car! Double win, Ray.
What happened about the transmission with the missing dip stick/ filler cap.?
I thought in older cars it was bad to change or add large amounts of new transmission fluid unless the car has had regular changes of said fluids in the past. We tried to change a small amount at a time in a used car and it made the transmission slip the blow taking out first and second gear?
I’m a do-it-yourselfer. When the rotors look that nice, I cannot see how the $200 for new rotors can be justified, even if they can increase the life of the new pads by 20%. Rotors are expensive!
What happened about the transmission oil leak…. or missing plug or dipstick??????
I used to sand blast my spark plugs and re-gap them, provided the porcelain insulator was still sound. Thereby havinh further service from them.
Hey Ray if you soak the belt in warm water after you receive it it makes it very flexible and doesn't have a mind of its own give it a try my thoughts thank you
If you were 'speeding a little' as normal, you would have been past where the deer was crossing, before it got there.
This Honda that's going away to college, did the owner happen to mention what it was going to study?
I don't understand replacing Rotors if they are not Distorted, just extra money spent that does not help braking function–I am old school, if it ain't broken, don't fix it….
What about the missing trans filler tube?
LOL, "Brake cleaner is actually somewhat flammable". Brake cleaner is extremely flammable; so much so it can be used as stater fluid.
Instead of replacing the rear brakes the sparkplugs should have been replaced, as far as I'm concerned
Me as a Canadian also never put grease on the shims. Never have, never will
Need to see car drive out fixed or not fixed dopamine level dropping need to do productive work nooooo, quick fidget video ASMR , o ffs to late
Those frigging sound effects make me laugh every time!
YouTube AI is so weird and oddly I worked on the same Civic. That belt is a PITA if you don't remove the top engine dogbone
Those rotors where beautiful. Why make the classic rotor upsell to unsuspecting/suspecting customers. Why?
Don't forget that another cause for severe rust buildup on the calipers is people who don't service their brakes are the proper interval and wait until their pads are metal to metal…
Does any car in Florida have tightened battery terminals?
😀
Now I've bought the caliper tool thru your link 🙂
Would a shot or so of paint on the terminal stop the green shit from growing on them
Every car designer should be forced to do car repairs and maintenance for the first two years of their studies before they are allowed to design anything.
I have a Honda Civic 2013 and I'm betting my environmental air filter is behind that glove box too. Thanks RainMan I'll check there first and do it myself. The Honda dealership wanted big bucks to replace this along with a few other basic replaceable parts. If you get a fuel filter replacement for a Honda Civic I'll also be much obliged to follow you along 🙂 ! The rear brakes would have been interesting (depending on the Honda's age) because a lot of people mess up and damage their electronic brakes because they don't know to retract the electronic brake first and that is not an issue with the easier front brakes.
Didja service the transmission/fluid!?
When are they going to make Bluetooth spark plugs
Angry pliers best ever thanks
That grease doesn’t eat the rubber. At least in all my years of using it. What it does is allow high heat transfer that burns/dries out the boot IF you’re using the brakes hard enough to build high heat. In like a Corvette, Type-R, etc.. I use that on my brake setup with no issues. However you must make sure the amount you put on the pad face that touches the pistons is super thin. As to not be able to touch the boot. In everyday use from normal drivers. It’s no issue if it gets on the boots but good mechanics always use the right amount and not gobs of it.
Some hair around the hole makes it easier to find!
@rainman ray's repairs: "The OEMs don't install lube on these shims"
I unfortunately beg to differ. As an Audi tech, I can tell you that lube is always installed there, as well as on the contact points, where the piston(s) meet the pads themselves.
The reason for this is simple: noise. The lube that is used is called PlastiLube (see ATE PlastiLube, for reference).
That lube is quite resistent to water and other outside interference, and with it there, you have no "clean metal-on-metal action", which makes the brakes:
1. More silent in their operation;
2. Easier to work with, when the next guy comes up, to change them;
3. It provides a small degree of protection for the caliper piston
It is not a mistake not to use it. It is also, in my experience, recommended to use it. I have seen calipers which have been saved by the thing, and I can swear by the noise reduction.
All this being said, I really love your channel! Keep up the good work!
So did you find the transmission fill plug and or service the trans?
Just curious as to why the rotors were replaced.
From Vancouver Canada, I thank you for the education on automotive.
Honestly enjoy watching for the humour and learning, also dont mind watching brake changes, keep doing you 👍
why did you replace the rotors also? they didn't look too bad?
Cab filter?
Silicon grease when it comes in contact with rubber
It is a non moving part, no need for any lube.
I looked at the Technical Data Sheet for that 3M purple lube, and found some interesting storage instructions. While rated for use up to 3000 degrees F, for "optimal" storage, keep between 46 and 64 degrees F. I hope you are keeping yours in the refrigerator!
Ahhh dog, I wanted to see the cabin air filter install. 😭
Use a cheap bungi cord to pull lightly on belt so kinks don’t keep screwing with the placement
Haven’t even finished the video yet but decided to mention how awesome that caliper depressor is. I work mainly on tractor trailers but we have a rental fleet with ford and gm vans and having that tool is such a time saver.
For slide pins it’s NAPA Sil-glide. Won’t swell rubber and resists washout.
Open trans 🕳 hole, not good. I would flush the system. Would definitely explain to customer how important that is, tiny oil passages and dirt are not a good mix.
Love your Chanel. My oldest is in UTI for auto and diesel and my youngest looks to want to follow. Shared your channel with them so they see what their future holds and how to do their job correctly. Lol.
Love the commentary and sound effects. "Pop'em see hood" is a favorte.
Keep the videos coming. And thank you.
Why did you change the battery? Just loose terminals?
I use Sil-Glyde on my brake jobs. I use it after doing some intense research of brake lubricants.
