Teflon should be put on the other way around i think
Freaking awesome video dude I loved it I learned so much from it, I know a lot of you technicians have never seen these vehicles or worked on them but I have a little bit and it’s nice to see some old cars in this new videos God bless you my brothers and sisters take care and stay safe✝️✝️✝️
Hello Ray I was having a hard time locating a short circuit one time until I saw a video here on YouTube I don’t know what they call this apparatus but it’s pretty cheap at Harbor freight or you can buy the name brand which was such a bag almost $300 I think or $200 but the one in hungry freight does the same thing for $27 so that’s what I purchase. When you hook it up it sounds just like that free on detector it goes beep beep and when you locate the short circuit it’s a steady sound it will reduce your time in locating any short-circuit on the vehicle trust me. This is the same device that telephone or cable people use to locate where the cables are so they can go ahead and connect them in the proper locations if you give me a PO Box and I can find my old one you can have it so that way you know if you want to buy a new one or this one is still new I only used it one time .
So let me know if you want this one I’ll box it up it has some instructions in it and you can use it I will try to look for it right now and give you the name of that unit please let me know if you want me to ship this one to you I just need to get a PO Box, also need to tell you I know you got a area where you can donate to your channel well I’m gonna be honest I’m very poor I’ve been disabled for almost 5 years I lost my business to the government because a long long story but if you want me to I can do it in detail in a letter and I’ll mail it to you I don’t want the world to know my business you know what I mean but in the long run it paid off some weird way you know why Jesus Christ was watching over me and my family and I tell you without him in my life I would be nothing. So Ray with this in mind God bless you sir take care of yourself and your family and your friends stay safe now oh don’t forget the PO Box number if you want me to send you this electrical short circuit finder lol I don’t know what the name of it is but when you see it it’s kind of complicated but it’s easy to find electrical short fast bye for now✝️✝️✝️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🤠🤠🤠
Didn't hear you say if you bled the brakes.
If people are always finding your misnaming of things, then I'll join the mix, that tape is PTFE tape which stands for Polytetrafluoroethylene and whilst it does contain Teflon, it is actually called PTFE Tape accidentally discovered in 1938 in France by DuPont and incorrectly renamed by Americans to Teflon Tape.
I had a '68 as a first car that I rebuilt in shop during my first year in high school. Was fun to see the work here, rats-nest of wires, leaking cork gaskets & all. I appreciate the videos – never know what Ray will be working on and the variety from this side is nice. Thanks, Ray!
You could’ve glued the box together
You don't have to bleed the brakes after opening the system?
My father had one of these. Mongrels to start in the morning. He parked on the top of our short hill of a driveway and did a clutch start. His was navy blue. We were a family of 5. (3 girls under 6 ) and we picked up a family of 4 big people for church on sundays. The girls were in the parcel shelf behind the backseat.
.
Even with all the rust and holes on the bottom that thing is in better condition then many vehicles not even 10 years old lmao
"Those other switches that are already on that brake master cylinder appear to be leaking"……lol. On my VW Bus it's not if it leaks but when it leaks!!!!
When removing and installing the airbox, rather than levering the top, pull it from the bottom
I love the aftermarket vintage looking radio with MP3
Nice to see you work on an old bug.. you probably realize that the brake switches were not even anything to do with that blown fuse, The parts are available for bugs a lots of sources.. but some are really prices
Favorite things to work on, Bugs.
Those parts are stil availabe but you have to order it
Wow, I watched this three months ago and forgot about it.
Wipers powered by the air in the spare tire
That wiring seem to be a fire hazard. Someone need to redo that wiring to factory standard with modern fuse box and proper wire covers and sleeves.
I always knew the torque value as German torque Gued-n-tite
You didn't bleed the brakes ?
Good trouble shooting. A VW air cooled bug owner.
If you think that 1972 was “simple”, my 1961 40 Hp version was about as basic as a lawn mower, but an excellent car to learn on. The things I learned were of great value as my taste in cars turned to FIAT 🕷🕷🕷and later Toyota’s. Now when I open a hood I can’t even see the engine, or work on it without a computer. 😞
yep, that car has been a lot messed with. wiring rats nest is a classic. also the oil leaks could do with sorting out.
car's nickname is Rusty ?
I saw microchips it must be the emissions cheat circuit?
Such clean hands, must have been the day's first job! Or maybe reverence for the ol' Beetle. Ours was an orange '62, I think.
Isn't it nice to work on a real car of quality for once. Simple, not all plastic, and easy to work on.
Been there done that! But back when I did it there was a place to get them new. There is a place in Germany that I think still makes replacement parts because these things are popular.
I uses to work in a place that specialized in Corvairs and we got Bug owners coming in all the time to. I absolutely hated working on the brakes as it never failed you would break the wheel cylinder bleed screws off and you always had to replace or rebuild the wheel cylinders when you changed brake pads.
ROF- Now you know why all of us oldtimers always maintained our own vehicles. All you needed was wrenches and sockets! No stupid electronics you have to pay hundreds for like todays cars. Hell I didnt even have seat belts in most of my cars. LOL
Tighten til you hear the crack, THEN back off 1/2 turn!
Hose is direct air heater. Lose like that makes for COLD winter driving and foggy interior windows.
Thank you for the Van Halen concert.
Now you've learned something. 😊
When I was young my family drove a Beetle from Edinburgh to Spain another couple with a new car came along the beetle got there no problem the other car broke down a few times
A Classic…Don't forget to plug into the computer
I'm developing seizures from watching your one handed wrenching ….
Old school simple back when you didn't plug a mini computer in for diagnosis. Love it! 👍
As per usual another great video, you can do anything theres just nothing you cant repair, I wish I had the wisdom you have although I have learned a few things from you, keep up the great work and stay safe ,
I had a 72 super just like it, then a Karman ghia afterwards, simple fun cars.
Kool vid mate my freind is a vw resto guy in the uk and i remember great times when we where younger .
This was my first car, literally rebuilt the whole thing, engine, trans and all, over heated the thing and blew the engine and was still able to rebuild it twice, those things last forever
Thank God I never bought a beetle! Did you take that leaf out? An awfull paint job coupled with an awful shed how appropriate, modern VW's a tad better me thinks…
Wire nuts have no place inside an automobile.
Hazard switch is about 16 bucks and available from a number of online providers, probably none local
Had a 71 vw super beetle, everytime i had to take it to a mechanic they had to have me put it in reverse for them. Once they just asked me to take it into the bay.
