That's not the engine light it's the money light ! Per Mr. O lol
I'm curious on what percent of vehicles come in under 100k miles with machanical issues vs cars over 100k miles
Damn. Nice work Ray.
Ray…I gotta say…..I wish I was 1/2 the mechanic you are…..
It's not a Kia, it's a Aki –as in Aki Breaky Heart or should I say Aki breaky billfold! lol
love the video awesome to see a car i own on the channel i have an 08 sportage with the same motor just replaced the exhaust flex pipe to seal the pipes back up
Good find. Great video brother.
Good pickup on the cracked ISCA housing. It almost looks like someone tried to take it off without unscrewing it. I can't see any other way it would have cracked without actually having removed it & trying to destroy it out of the vehicle.
This Kia is probably the first car's engine cover I have seen that only shows four intake runners in the moulding when it is a V6 with 6 intake runners which are clearly visible with the cover off. Good one Kia!
The first thing I thought when I saw the fuel trim, which is differences between injection volume from cylinder to cylinder, as well as overall lean, (all injectors trying to add more fuel) I though "Vacuum leak"! I was expecting something like a blown diaphragm in the vacuum brake booster, or more simply, a split, cracked, or unconnected vacuum line. I would NEVER have suspected a broken air idle speed control valve. I have never seen that before. I wonder what would have broken that, since it is merely an air valve with only an electronic connection. Nothing that could have put stress on the housing of the AISC.
Can someone tell me what scanner he has?
A 2006 Kia with 45k miles??? Gotta love the old lady special
Any orifice of your choice. Beep beep. Great timing lol. Great video Ray.
Tus videos son siempre los mejores, siempre recibo notificaciones cada vez que subes un video, por cierto, gracias por recomendarme a Waylon Emmett, el experto en criptografía, realmente ha cambiado mi vida, estoy agradecido*
Backfire probably broken the old one, too many cracks for it to be caused by stress.
So you can do a Homer Simpson.the episode we're he said if I want smoke blown up my ass I would sit home with a small length of tube and a pack of cigarettes 🤣😂🤣sorry it's late
I have always suspected that automotive engineering involved smoke, mirrors and electronic wizardry, now I know its true.
Thanks Ray, this proves my theory.
Good onya mate.
You just reminded me of my neighbor's old jeep. It had an intake manifold gasket leak. You could hear that whistle a block away.
nice
What’s the saying? Plastic makes it possible?
These things (at least the 4 cyl) are bulletproof. Had one with the 4 cyl that I sold with 240k miles a few years back and still to this day putting around town.
Ray how about old school trick and spray brake cleaner to look for intake leaks and see if the idle changes when you spray it on different spots?
Just trying to learn here, but what made you think intake leak versus an actual lean condition? Would you expect to see misfire codes for an actual lean condition and that’s what lead you to go for intake leak?
Your videos are a demonstration to get any scan tool besides snap on. It seems like it’s 5-6 years old or more. Autel and launch aren’t nearly as clumsy/clunky and are faster and easier to use.
Ray I think you are a great mechanic love you videos keep them coming
Love your vids Ray. The smart ass in me, however, would like to point out that the top sensor bolt clearly has a Phillips head slot, making the socket and space for said socket unnecessary.
I bet blue RTV could have sealed the cracks for a time but it was severely cracked at several places. I’d only RTV it if it was my own vehicle and the part was pricey
Nice find on the rogue air leak that unit was severely cracked good video @Rainman Ray's Repairs
I believe engine covers retain heat that degrades plastic and rubber components.
Lean would be way to much air so the ecm is leaning the fuel out I would say Vacuum leak @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Bad intake
Smoking is bad for you, except whendoing diags ..Then smoking is fine and sometimes even recommended.
Here for the dobled dos
It rides like a tank because Kia builds junk and the suspension is probably crap on that thing.
No matter what I may drive, I will never purchase a Kia, that company is scummy.
Another awesome video.
I would have JB Welded that crack.
As Scotty Kilmer says stupid beauty covers. lol
Learn so much from you. Which helps me maintain my own vehicle. Thanks
Is it ONLY Kia’s and Hyundai’s that have so many problems with low miles? Lol
Are all mechanics as skilled at diagnosis as you are?
Very common failure part on Kia and Hyundai engines I personally have replaced several dozens of those little stepper motors.
Are you sure that you are not blowing smoke up their assets…..?😃
my guess on the trouble codes lean burn now meaning there's a vacuum leak possibly somewhere but I guess Scotty is right that KIA plastic junk keeps breaking in the Heat
It's amazing to me as a retired airline mechanic that until the latest generation of multi million dollar commercial aircraft there has been no centralized diagnostic system like the code scanner. It's been pretty much VOM meter, specific to system test equipment and knowledge of the particular system. And even then I'm not sure the diagnostics are on the level of this few hundred dollar scanner. We were just getting the 787 and newer 777 aircraft at the airline I worked for when I retired a few years ago.
This smoke maker is new, I wonder if you can inject die into it to see more clearly in UV if its leaking.
Any machine can be a smoke machine if used INcorrectly!
That seems like a lot of wear for that low mileage
KIA @ 50k miles = end of life
Guessing no one has checked under the hood (opened it) in a while. How long would it take to build that Dirt Dobber nest?
Thank you for not bitching about Every Single Engine Cover you ever remove.
Thanks for the content Mr. Ray, no telling how that part cracked.
All I can say is any kia from 11 till 16 you better jeep up with them recalls. I worked at a dealership for a little while, and when I left we had 8 thar needed new engines
Odd that the plastic on that actuator cracked so badly. I would not think there is enough mechanical stress on that part to cause that crack. Maybe the plastic just couldn't handle the heat.
720p?
2800 miles a year!?!?
Beware Ray! I've seen several cases where people will be looking for this leak & spray the vis shaft which melts the seal causing a leak across the shaft setting p0171-p0172.
Here in NYC all mechanics are scammers and maybe 10% speak American or understand anything about the science of cars! This same job would cost someone at least $400! Great job Ray!
You’ve given me a newfound and deep respect for automotive technicians!
How does a 16 yo car have only 46k miles??
Receiving the NEW parts is like a birthday present…
I am attending Rainman Rays online school of mechanikery . Carry on Earthlings.
j… b… weld
dirty injectors and a vacuum leaks ,go hand in hand ,fuel pressure can get messed up due to a dirty fuel filter
No way, I’ve got an 06 sportage 2.7 too
Drive A Chevelle
"…the orifice of my choice." Damn… I have no comment….
Those gdi injectors ive found will tend to allow a high fuel trim when clogged causing vehicle to lean out. Luckily i caught mine before it created a bigger problem…
Looks like the owner opens the hood and checks fluids often. Not. or those dirt daubers are extremely fast
I was expecting to see the Kia splitting in half, like a Toyota Tacoma with a rotted out frame. I guess that doesn’t happen much in Florida.
Does talking to 'us' help with the diagnostics? For example, looking at the fuel trim before the repair. (BTW, I was well aware that you've done that in the past).
Hold the phone. 45k on a 2006 sportage is awesome, but what's really awesome is it still has a tape deck
Kia/Hyundai money pit.
enjoyed
🙏
Same codes in a friend's kia. Seafoam and a 2k rev for 10mins cured it. Edited part is here. I love your vids and diligence.
What fun it must be to work on clean, low-mileage cars. A 16 yr-old car with only 45K on it?!? You never see that here in Michigan. Must be a little old lady who only ever drives it to church or some such. I'm surprised the tires aren't rotting off.
9.36 why did I not know this! I've lost so many of those clips by pulling them off to remove the plug, D'oh! Ray, you rock man
The part cracked: due to heat? If so, can we blame the engine cover for not allowing heat to dissipate?
i cant talk and read, yep you heard right, i cant walk and read! lmfao. installing caffeen, caffeen click
Do you think that the engine covers that deflect the heat of the engine and contribute to plastic parts deteriorating and cracking?
Again a great video ray. You are indeed a master mechanic
Dizzy camera work. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Indians use it between Casinos
scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, scanner tool is scrolling. Rawhide
The smoke machine…too funny
If ya can't take the heat get the hell outta the engine bay. Bad plastics.. yikes. Stay safe and be well Ray.
Can't you just put some super glue on it ??
That’s the coolest tool I’ve seen him use. Us old timers would be using stater fluid and a spray nozzle to find the leak when it was running…
nice
Not gonna lie. Love hearing Staind in the background haha
You should lock up that scan tool
Very helpful video.
The "let's make everything from plastic" idea was a really good move (sarcastic). 45,000 miles and the engine light is already on. What a shame for modern cars. This could have simply been prevented by making it from aluminum or something stronger.
These kinds of junk sensors are needed to ensure that as little unburnt fuel as possible is emitted at the end of the exhaust, but it just goes wrong when these manufacturers and governments do not understand that replacing such an engine every 80 -100k miles is even more damaging.
I just don't get it.
It's on lean , that purple stuff it must have a cold
Ray's not usually one to blow smoke up our IACS
I'm having a great day bro ☕🇬🇧
🤔a KIA smoking crack, my first time to see that.
I like the way you treat cars……. Thanks…
Everyone should smoke (using a leak tamer, of course). Nice fix, enjoyable video, lucky customer, have yourself a happy day !!
