My neighbor is a DIY mechanic. He seems to fix everything by popping the hood and manually opening the throttle body and revving the engine until the noise stops. Its Belgium. Only a few generations have been walking erect although now the knuckles are hairy because they no longer drag on the ground. I can't believe that they built F-16s here, and they were good. They invented the French fry too.
In my Nissan which the placard says tires should be at 33 – a one pound drop will make the TPMS light illuminate.
pssst.. many neglect to air the SPARE TIRE IF HAS SENSOR… cuz i bet you not bother checking spare.. it's jyst a light.. for those whom not check LIGHTS.. TIRE..OIL GAS ETC.. themselves.. cuz someone could tamper with car.. behind your back cuz you said no once to someone
Hi Ray. I would like to know how much training you have had? You seam to have so much knowledge. Enjoy your videos.
Fur-vision!
So did you confirm the front left tire pressure when you changed the fuel cap? Was it a leak?
Similar thing happened to me. I bought a used car and was having issues. Found that the dealer or previous owner had installed the wrong fuel cap. 🧐
I just installed a cooling fan sensor and thermostat. I used Real Honda Parts.
You pay more for quality.
I am always skeptical with « compatible » parts … for everything …
I know manufacturer sometime have the habit to inflate the part prices but depending on what it is, it can give you a bad day.
Even something as stupid as a replacement light can be troublesome…
The tire light is in because of the low tire. Which probably throws the traction control light on too.
Any time there's an evap or vacuum leak on toyotas, the VSC will be disabled and TCS will also be disabled because both of those systems also run on vacuum (or at least used to), so if there's any faults they turn those off and pop up the idiot lights
No! thank you, thumbs up click!
Surprised you didn’t do a smoke test for an actual diagnosis Ray. Did they not authorize full diagnostic? Just asking, not criticizing.
Have yourself a great holiday weekend! You deserve it as much as anyone!
I had a couple of issues with fuel caps similar to this. I bought 2, one for my Trans Am and 1 for my Torrent. Both were from that online company named after the rain Forrest that owns the world. They both said they were authorized for my cars. But then engine lights came on for both cars. I put the old ones back on after cleaning them with brake cleaner and the lights went off.
I was wondering: chinese automechanics should live something like a dream and a nightmare life at the same time: dream, because all the chinese components on a car fail constantly, so they can repair them. Nightmare, because when they see a car coming for the 3rd time stright, they say "how can now fix it?!" Just joking, I know there are good techs in China, and they can get good spares. A friend told me that in China you can get top quality products, if you pay the right price.
No dooo-DEEEE-Dooo and wearing shorts in the shop? is it an off-day? GREAT evap system operation explanation! Thank you!
My truck failed emissions using one of those APS "Fit-all" cheap gas caps.
Now that I have a 2020 Tahoe which doesn't use a gas cap, I'm kinda concerned how much it going to cost to fix when the capless filler fails.
don't try to save money and buy crap fuel cap. lol. or buy a honda and no more fuel cap required.
When my 07 Cadillac had that code the Cadillac dealership in Vancouver Washington wanted to charge me over $3200 for repairs after charging me for a $250 diagnostic fee. I drove the car home and my buddy came over and said well let's take it to my friend who has a scan tool. He's a retired mechanic. His friend checked the codes and said that it "looks like a loose fuel cap. When was the last time you got gas?" Well that was the problem. You can't trust dealerships. 5 years later runs like a dream.
Jeez-amus…vehicles are crazy these daisy's.
Sometimes the tiniest little part ( which is ridiculous moneys $$$$ ) can practically disable a vehicle.
Not related to this vidjeo, just ranting.
I DO NOT KNOW
It's new so you know it's good…… Not! 😂
Quickest Ray video I have seen
Easy fix jobs are the best..They make us youtube certified mechanics look like experts
got me! filling 4 tires with air. HA!
Y would there be air in my gas tank when I take the gas cap off I started after I changed my spark plugs for a 2000 dodge Durango slt plus
The sad thing today is the overwhelming numbers of counterfeit parts, that are sold by reputable stores. And you never know if the store even knows they are counterfeit now.
Wham Bam see ya later followers….
What I love about evap systems is that you’re actually saving fuel with an emissions system. It’s tiny, but yes, your car literally does run on fumes—at least partially.
I had to yell at my friend whom I helped install cheap Chinese wheel bearings on his vw jetta. Those crappy bearings failed almost like clockwork within 2 months. He complained saying oem was 3 times the price I told him he already paid more buying multiple cheap parts than he would've paid buying oem. It's been 4 years since then and the oem is still going strong
comment or 2.. comment, comment
Have a great day Ray!! 🙏❤💪
Mis matched tires can cause traction control because wheel speed sensors pick up tires turning different speeds.
Nothing wrong with an aftermarket fuel cap as long as it's actually model specific. This was probably the first one they grabbed off the shelf in the oil change section at walmart without looking at any part numbers, assuming they're all identical regardless of make.
Ray, did blowing the tyres up put the pressure monitoring light off or not? Could have had a dodgy sensor in one of the wheels! Update please 🙏
Great short vid. …… Awesome
Text book
Toyota knew people would ignore CEL for evap system error so they set their ECU to turn off traction control etc so it couldn't be ignored…crafty!
Junk parts toyota never like aftermarket fuel caps good video @Rainman Ray's Repairs
This is the very reason why I love to watch your videos. You are honest and very Sure of yourself and whatever you do.
It is refreshing to know that there are more people like me.
I thought the "squiggly line" indicator was telling me to do a burn out!
Dollar Store parts. Need a standard for auto parts. National one. UL or something.
Remember when we made all this in the USA? Enter globalization…….the selling of industrial manufacturing know how to shiat countries.
Changed out radiator and OEM cap doesn't fit and didn't come with one so now what do I have to get a whole new radiator just for a cap or is there a way around that
You know, due to inflation, I was going to buy a gas cap for my car off Amazon. But changed my mind. So I coughed up $44.00 for a omegas capfrom dealer. You know IT WORKED! The engine light went off. When it comes to certain vehicle parts make sure they are OEM's or else you will suffer for it sooner then you think! Rock Auto, good place to check for parts. But naje sure oem!
I ordered months back spark plugs cylinders.the advertisement said OEM. I bought! Surprisemthey were not OEM. But made in China, and I sure said one. I sent back same day delivered with pictures. Got my money back. Sparks plugs from dealer. Better safe then sorry
Ray, I love your work. Last video you asked for opinions about the new mic: Tinny, lots of BG noise. Wind stands out. That said, will always dig these vids, and I'm not even a car guy.
Enjoying it done ✅
Happy Labor Day to you and your family!!!
Please add a dooo de dooo money calling t-shirt to your store. Don't forget to ship a free can of brake kleen with every order!
Also. EVAP leak does not happen on a full tank or below 1/4. It runs it's test between 3/4 and 1/4. I'm sure you already know this. But to everyone who doesn't.
You’re better off farming used OEM parts from a u pull it junkyard.
My 2003 Ram has been giving this code for years. Dealer couldn't find anything leaking and said to get a new fuel cap. Have had 3 oem caps. Code keeps coming back. I just check the code and then reset it.
Ohhhhh ray. After market parts . Just Nfg. Mechanics just know when receiving a part that's after market .it's scheisse. 🍺😭
I get the stop cheap parts. I go middle of the road on most aftermarket "consumable" parts. Rarely OEM but on some items it's the best choice. Debating with myself on my valve cover at the moment. Nissan 2.5, 02-05 has the spark plug tube seal leaks. Hate that they just won't sell the tube seals. (Like nobody but the factory could permatex in new seals.) Nope gotta buy a new valve cover. Aftermarket ones scare me with the stupid cheap price. But the OEM price seems so ridiculously high. There seems to be no good middle choice.
You get what you pay for. These days it's alot more but it still applies.
Wow that’s pretty nasty behind that fuel door for a 2007.
Love your videos my brother ❤❤
Always here brother
Why can't the aftermarket get a simple thing like a gas cap right? When the gas prices went through the roof, my sister bought locking caps for her Tundra and CRV. Exact same cap for both. Both threw an EVAP leak code. Both caps leaked. Good thing she didn't throw the old caps away. Told her to look at the bright side. Chances are if someone is going to steal your gas, they would punch a hole in the tank, not siphon it out. 😈
Several years ago, I forgot to put the filler cap back on my VW Rabbit after filling the tank. When I pulled away from the station, the engine had less power than normal Somehow, I noticed the filler door was open, quickly went back to the station and retrieved the filler cap, which I had left on top of the pump. Engine power was fine after that.
I learned that the evap system is the cars way of utilizing the evaporated gas fumes by siphoning them from the tank and feeding them to the engine rather than expelling them to the environment and polluting.
(Edit: I work at a part store and watch these now and then to help educate myself on things I come across while on the job, so these are actually really helpful when I read someone's codes at the store).
I have had the same issue with a Ford Explorer and my wife's Chrysler 300… I had to get the OEM gas caps cause the caps from the parts store did not work… The problem went away after replacing with an OEM gas cap.. I did smoke the EVAP system to make sure I didn't have a leak elsewhere in the system.. I do order my parts sometimes on line but I only order from OEM sites..
O o o is sooo bad about selling Chinese made cheap junk parts. Worst of all the chain stores… I had a Suburban with a bad window switch. Customer asked me to install his part, which I do, but with the CLEAR understanding that if their part is faulty, they pay labor every time I have to do the work. It took 3 switches to get a decent one, and after six months, the bulbs are already faulty in the "new" switch. I told him to go online and buy the AC Delco switch.
I had a gas cap issue with my current vehicle, a Hyundai accent because the old gas cap couldn't click when it was put on. The car had trouble starting somedays and somedays it didn't, it was totally random. Sometimes letting it sit for a few minutes after trying to start it would let it start. Once I got a oem one the problem went away.
Super short one, but some important information that people should know! Most wouldn't think something as simple as a gas cap not sealing properly could cause all those warning lights and disabled systems!
Toyota SCAM….scare you to the stealership by turning off a safety device the VSC with the Christmas tree lights. Pretty shitty way to scam you and the NHTSA refuses to honor Americans safety.
Had that same issue on my old Toyota T100 P/U. I saw that the gas cap gasket was cracked and very probably leaking. I bought a cheap Stant after market gas cap and it was not even close in design to the OEM model. The gasket on the Stant cap, however, appeared exactly the same diameter and thickness as the OEM cap. I switched out the rubber gaskets and used my original cap. Everything was fine. Codes gone…
as soon as I saw evap I thought bet someones put a crappy fuel cap in it
When checking TPMS, don’t forget the spare tire. Ask me how I know.
Just because it's new, doesn't mean it's good..
Yes the microphone on the GoPro sounds great
I know we all want a bargain these days but cheapo crap just doesn't last or work properly most of the time. I know you save a bit of cash but long term it'll crap out long before the oem stuff does.
My Grand Cherokee will turn TPS on at 24psi
No, I was wondering why you didn’t air up the tire while you were there. You’re usually far more efficient with your time.
I have the same code in my Corolla and I replaced the gas cap with one from the dealer, cleared the code and it returned several weeks later. I haven't had time to diagnose it so I just clear it a few days before inspection and It stays cleared long enough to pass. If I was near Ray I would have him find the issue and fix it properly but I live 1200 miles from him.
Toyota fuel filler pipes rust pin holes in the top where dirt & water sits.
Use a mirror and spray off with brake clean
The evap system explanation was good. I learned a bit about that today
Our 4Runners keeps turning on. Replaced with oem cap and no change.
You talk like Sheldon from Big Band Theory.
I had a Volvo with a bad fuel cap gasket, bought a cheapo fuel cap and removed it's gasket which replaced the worn out Volvo cap gasket perfectly, chucked the cheapo cap and worn Volvo fuel cap gasket,
I just put an aftermarket intercooler in my Pentastar, I had to pull it out and put the original back in with new o-rings. Rediculous.
Very rare to see a 4Runner in the shop!
I am handy, but no mechanic. I do have a wife.
I would bet that rather than a code that another mechanic put a crap cap on to fix, instead you had a wife leave a cap at a gas station, she then went to a parts store and bought the cheapest cap the staff said would fit her car.
But did you leave the other tire at 36 lbs?
Next, customers come in complaining the low fuel light is on. Turns out vehicle needed fuel 😉
I try use OEM parts all the time
To be fair not all aftermarket parts are crap, given the gas prices people are motivated to siphon gas out of cars I bought a new cap with a lock.
That squiggly warning is for attempting to play Bonjovi's Slippery When Wet album on cassette.
This is one of those codes that can have multiple causes. My Silverado threw this code a couple years ago and after ruling out the gas cap and fuses I found the cause to be the evap canister solenoid. It had gone bad and the evap canister valve was stuck in the open position, aka the "evap leak". Replaced the solenoid, cleared the code, and it never returned so I assumed it was a good fix.
Man, you guys install parts from Autozone on customer cars, lol.
Happy Labor Day weekend Ray. I actually have a 3 day weekend from my shop. Closed Sunday and Monday and my day off is Tuesday. I think I'm going to go play in the woods this weekend.
I got my car last year (first car, '03 Camry) and it had a generic fuel cap and oil cap… yeah it gave errors on the fuel cap. I quickly replaced both of those. No reason to go $1 cheaper.
I've worked for a few "suppliers" for companies that outsourced parts & assemblies for major manufacturers. These parts & assemblies were originally made in house, then outsourced. Would those parts be considered OEM in your opinion?? I've bought a few parts from Amazon& will probably continue. I know some Japanese car companies have factories in China, also Mexico & other countries. Same thing with local parts stores-parts made all over world. Also keep in mind, all those OEM parts broke or wore out at some point. Car parts are crapshoot, even high dollar stuff have defects sometimes.
One hour ago and 11k views. Ray is getting paid !! Always a good watch !
⛽Wait till all of the cars being built now with capless fuel fillers get old.🚕🚖🚗🚘🚙🛻
⛽Flaps with either broken springs or jammed open with dirt and grime requiring expensive parts and disassembly of the fuel system to fix.
Customers will long for the good old days when it could be solved with a trip to the dealer's parts counter to buy a genuine cap for $35.🤠🎩👒
Thanks for the bonus Ray
I had a Toyota and one rim would not completely seal to certain tires. I don't know why. Never figured it out. One set would be fine, no leaks. All tire pressures were consistent. Next set of tires, same brand, same dealer, that one rim/tire would leak down considerably more than the others. Next 2 or 3 sets of tires, no problems. Then BAM! Air would magically disappear out of that tire/rim.
VSC light! They had such an issue that a Virtual Safety Car was deployed!?
Man it's impressive you know word for word how the systems on cars operate. It helps learn me!!!! You're awesome ray
