In this video I have a look at a Subaru Outback 2.5 that came in with a low power complaint. It's from the auction and the customer already replaced the catalytic converters with no success. -Enjoy!

Interesting .
Like many viewers, would like to hear and see the final outcome/repair.
Currently have a burn from my catalytic converters on my 2.5.. oops. I have low power on my Subaru. Pain in the ass. I love and hate these engines..
That was pretty slick there. Nice use of brake line!
Good test Eric O.. besides using the touch test for the hot pipe a vac gauge and some rubber hose is a good check to see for sure where the blockage is.
Hey Eric, I did my head gasket and rear main seal with the help of your head gasket vids so thanks for posting that. I have a newer Subaru now, a 2013 outback 3.6r. Have you encountered the weird issue with the camshaft position sensor? I get an occasional check engine light with a P0346 code. After researching I found that Subaru put out a bulletin about it and there is now a shim kit available to put the cam sensor to spec. Just wanted to get your thoughts.
Your the best like a true….i can't say doctor or engineer your a one of kind and you do it well sir. Better then a doctor or a engineer could!
"OH BABY don't rev it up whatever you do" LOL
That is is no manual anywhere!
Lovely Diag
She was a tight one
So funny,Mrs O got you at the end,saw your face get red, great video sir, love your channel.
Shes such a good champ. She took that "tight" joke very well fir a woman. We need more if this now days. Ladys too touchy. 👍to mrs o
Why are you talking to the car?
I had made a point to watch this video should my 2.5L Subaru ever have this complaint. Strangely, 3 weeks ago someone nailed me in the back end in stop and go traffic knocking me under the lifted pickup in front of me sheering off most of the top of the engine, resulting in a total loss. Now, I have little reason to watch, but, I will.
What is the engineering answer why the new Subaru’s consume oil? Loosening of tolerances to get better gas mileage?
You remind me of Scotty from Star Trek. Always whipping out some kind of fancy diagnostic tool and waving it over the problem 🙂
I've got one of these pieces…. same color too. She's a little weak in the knees on the power front. T'was also an auction car
Great Vid Eric 🙂
Eric we received the HOODIE. It's very soft! But it doesn't compare to the champion sweatshirt you wear! It's much thinner and not as warm. Why don't you sell the champions?
Eric hello from NYC. WHY didnt you just disconnect the exhaust at the flange before the rear catalytic converter instead of drilling the 2holes? Thanks Chris
bah, forgot about the downstream cat on those. the flange/bolts up front look new, I'd just unbolt it there and test run/shop and shop air/blower towards the rear and maybe reverse in tail pipe to see what "flies" out the front tube lol
plugged muffler/resonator is my guess early in video, lol
This is the first video where I noticed him say something truly dirty, I was beginning to think this man was a saint
What caused the cats to get clogged? Isn't there another problem that needs to be addressed?
👍👍
Great discovery on how to check for exhaust restriction. Thanks mentor ❤
I once had to drain a gallon and a half out of a resonator. Was a sloshy restriction.
Stuntman doesn't need FLIR to make an exhaust system glow!
I put a rubber glove on the tip of the muffler and see if it blows up like a ballon:) hold it in place with a zip tie.
Wash that mangy cat.
Mr. O is a Hero. I wish he lived in AZ.
I bet it was a misfire that killed the cats. Usually it takes out both cats when there is a misfire for long periods of driving on it. Even a engine that is spitting out oil due to blowby ruins cats.
Did you repair this car? Was hoping to see the repair.
Blocked cat?
There is a banana in the tail pipe
that was a cool trick, ive learned something today😊
the way to represent not pipe pressure is the old dollar bill trick
Reminds me of the early 70's GM vehicles. (pre-catalytic convertor) They used a double wall exhaust pipe between the crossover and muffler. It was a good idea, but as the pipe heated up of course both would expand, but if you drove through water it would rapidly cool the outer pipe eventually the inner pipe would collapse restricting the exhaust. Now try to convince a customer his/her perfectly good looking exhaust pipe was the issue, I ended up cutting one that was collapsed just to show them.
Great video as always
Good tip for checking pressure in the line.
People's republic of new york…. lol.
Exhaust for any Subaru is expensive
Subaru 2.5 no power. That's normal, isn't it….?
Put a balloon or nitrile glove on the tail pipe. Nice video man.
I ran across the same symptoms last week on a 07 Pontiac GP. GT. Turns out the chipmunks had filled the mufflers up with several hundred acorns. I cut off both mufflers and dumped them out. Welded them back on. PITA.
The Urabus was forced to run backwards again.
Those thermal cameras are so damn handy for everything. One of the few tools I don't regret spending way too much on.
