The front valve cam assembly looks cleaner than the back valve and cam assembly.
I feel that Ray has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. However I feel this is a good thing if he is working on your vehicle. If I don't feel the urge to work on my vehicle, it will go to Eric O. Since he is not far from me, however I would trust both to service my vehicles.
You all probably guessed I'm a Ford Fan. Ray seems to be good with both, Ford and GM. Ditto with Eric O.
Longitudinally mounted V engines should be illegal. So hard to work on
Thanks for the video ooooo and I think the new them at the beginning is cool ๐
Like the fact you got jelly roll playing
Whats the torque sequence for that intake lololol
I lost 9/16. 1/4 drive 25 years ago cpst 32. Dollars to replace
How many sockets you lose per month lol
I didn't see him doing the half-moon seals they always need to be done when doing valve covers on these cause they leak from there as well toyota/lexus engines
Love your work. Hate that digital torque wrench. Sounds annoying in your videos. In practice I prefer the traditional click. For low torque stuff i quickly test the force needed on something already higer just to calibrate my arms. This way I feel when I am close.
Methodical work.
Does anyone know the design reasoning for the "basket gasket"? The only logical reason I can come up with would be to disrupt the airflow going into the intake, possibly to better balance how the air goes into the manifold and cylinders. Or were the Toyota/Lexus engineers concerned about large items getting dropped into the intake track? ๐
๐
Hi Ray, been watching your videos for some time now, really fascinating watching you work I would be interested in seeing all of your tools, you must have a fortune tied up in them. It amasses me every time I see you coming out with different tools to complete your job.
I know what itโs like to need eyeballs in your fingertips after 45 years of twisting wrenches, still need them sometimes working on my Hotrod.
Washed my engine just like you did at the end, and should have waited until it was stone cold. Cracked the block and had to junk my car.
I noticed you did repair the plastic clips you broke off of the plugs for the injectors…vibration soon will find this motorist on the side of the road when the injector clips vibrate loose and come unplugged and the injectors will not fire….naughty boy Ray!
You literally have to tear that engine apart just to change the back spark plugs….sometimes I wonder who designs these cars. Nice video though. Kind of feel sorry for the owner of this P.O.S, it cost them a fortune just for valve cover gaskets.
Watch the self-talk. It adds up and we start to believe our self-talk after a while, even if obviously untrue. Great work!
I don't like you beepy torque wrench. Clicks are preferable to beeps, haptically speaking
I think the ground wire to to bleed off static electicicles from the plastic manifold? Static electricicles kill electronical parts dead.
YES!๐
Yeah I've done a few of these (Well the 3.0L) in the Avalon's and that back wiring harness will make you say dirty words. As it gets in the way of installing the back valve cover as your gasket falls off. Because it's not easy to get to, these gaskets rarely get serviced. So the gaskets are hard as a rock and like in the prior video the spark plugs seals refuse to come out! Good times!
That EVAP clamp was bothering me for about 10 minutes.
Top job Sir! You're an inspiration for quality..Thank you for sharing…NJ
Question from a guy who loves Rays videos but I am not a car mechanic but feel like I can find a repair guy better because of the content. Question: why does the customer bring their own parts vs having the shop get what they need? Do shops typically charge more for customer brought parts similar to a restaurant charging a corkage fee?
Surprised ๐ฎ you did not tighten sparkplug before using wrench, you probably can tell if they start to strip
My wife used to have the non hybrid RX from that same time period. Was a great car.
"You gonna go in there stud" – he he he
All fasteners?…let's see you empty your pockets.
Very slick, really enjoyed these two. He got me at the end though, I didn't think we'd get to see it running. Didn't realise this had become a 'thing' for me watching these until just now.
"No worry's…I got it" holy smokes that was quick!
And also locate it like where is it. Thatโs why they are blue.
And bars leak…don't go in the bushes.
I thoroughly enjoyed the heck out of part one and part two of this Lexus repeat video and can hardly wait until the next one
On second thought maybe two bottles Skotty K At205…
You didn't forget the ground wire.
Nice intro Ray, makes for a great part 2 or more intro for you multi-part videos. It's a keeper. ๐
What about the zip tie fix for the broken coil pack plugs? I really wanted to see how you did that. I didn't see any on it in the video.
The YouTube automotive master technician god! Doo doo dee doo to you!!!
18 or 81.
I like that there werenโt too many Dangly bits on that engine
I hate doing gasket jobs. I'm always imagining that the gasket has slipped or twisted at the very last second, so will leak. Never has, but can't stop myself from thinking that!๐
I need a notification sound with Ray going Doodley Doodley Do.
Love me some older rust laden tools
Enjoy all your work, ask for a raise
Toyotas use pink antifreeze. Looks like you topped off with green.
"ya gonna go in there stud?" ๐
Sound like a barker trying to get a sailor to enter a jiggle joint.
So many parts!!! how do you remember where they all go back!!! Amazing.
A thank you video with examples of the goodies might be fun by
I was hoping you were going to ace the removal of those seals for the spark plug holes
I was so intent on watching you, I didnt notice the glare , lol!!!
Do you give back the replaced parts like the three coils?
Where is Pete?
You know they kill animals to make the shmoo that you use to prevent leaks?
They use the fatty tissues of the Phocidae to make up the bulk and get the correct viscosity and the back sides of the Myrmica to achieve the required adhesion.
He pulled the silicone from the "corners" of the rear valve cover but I didn't see him reapply it before installing the cover?
I'm currently putting chrome brass and stainless parts on a pratt and Whitney radial engine, I keep saying nice n Shiny! ๐๐
ACCORDING TO RAY, YOU HAVE TO WIGGLE YOUR STUD IN ORDER FOR IT TO GO INSIDE; THEN, YOU HAVE TO RUN THE STUDS DOWN FOR THE PROPER FIT. SOUNDS LIKE A BAD DAY FOR ANY GUY WHO BELIEVES HE IS A STUD ??
But Ray the broken clips on the coils? Always love to watch your vids learnt some stuff along the way. Keep up the good work.
This Lexus did not vex us
you are going to get bit in the butt for not starting those plugs before using that electric wrench.
Charging senior citizens 120$ to air up their tires is exploitation.
Got to be the most annoying torq wrench I have ever seen.
Hey Ray, Awesome job…forgot the zipper ties on the broken coil pack connectors buddy.. lol
how do you remember were all things go
Damn it Ray, I was so ready to post that you had forgotten that hose clamp. You ruined my gloating with your greatness.
Ray, it's great to see a good mechanic getting the respect they deserve in the comments on your videos. Not so long ago I remember when my son went into tech school for automotive work, people were "suggesting" that he could do better with his life. I'm proud of my son and he loves your videos… he's even admitted to watching you and SMA to get tips on hard to do jobs he has to work on. Love you work, keep it up.
The old Toyota Cressida can run around any Toyota/Lexus in 2 millions miles now a date . All this mix racist design with their eyes close , that why the mileage only last 500k miles only . They never thinks about quality like the old Japanese born in the 1920โs or the 1940โs engineering, the have the mind institutions to created better for life , now their mind is reckless , they do not care for the values they doing for better in life , they design and built a vehicle for looks only drive and reliable is no where near , the technology was to suppose to help built better quality but instead built to kill quality , just like a cops abused the badges or the government, same way the computers technology was supposedly help improving better life , but instead used to steal and hack other peoples identities. That is sad in humans , created problem there no endless way to stopped same go to automotive industries
Good job as always Ray
The intro edits for this series looks like a lot of work. I love all the effort! I sat and watched while wondering how long it took haha keep up the good work champ!
Another master class in patience…..
Love the intro of video
Kind of mystery theater
For your two part series or more parters should do the mystery theater intros lol
Where did those two plastic clips you discovered in the air cleaner cap go?
Hi Ray, great pt 2. I was also happy to read in the comments from pt 1 how much the owner appreciated your work and that he was going to bring his truck in for you to work on. Repeat customers says it all on the quality of your work. Cheers!
Dude I like watching your videos, but seeing you reuse a stud that you broke kills me ๐
Couldn't help but notice in your last few videos, you aren't using your handy dandy hose clamp pliers that you "shamelessly promoted on Amazon". Why?
i enjoy when you do not rush things and make a second video i like it when it is a good strip down and i like your electric wrenches so much i have one now thanks for the second video
I don't like the idea to clean the oil with water, there is electrical connectors everywhere in the engine moisture can get inside the wires, and cause problems in the future, other wise good video, please don't wash your engines with water.
26.:09 Did you remove your hood proprod after placing it there?
Ray, didn't you break a couple of plastic clips early on, which you said you would fix with cable ties. Did I miss that?
You should do mail time on your 2nd channel so we can see what we got you.
Sorry, not a fan of the plastic manifold. Sure, fine for 8, 9,10 years or maybe a few more, but then it'll warp due to heat, get plastic fatigue, crack or etc etc. and start leaking, vaccum leaks etc etc. Just not a good system for long term operation in my opinion.
was there a coolant leak at one time? i noticed the rust everywhere.
NOW you know why I retired from auto repair after 48 years!! LOL!
Good job.
Why not wait for the other 3 coils to arrive? I feel like this was a rushed job
For Headers would it be useful to add lead pipe dope on the threads or would the heat just melt it all away?
I don't know how your finger fits in the tube to put the spark plug in. Mine don't fit. I have to use a magnet
Someone should send you a garden hose sprayer so you'll be up to date in the 20th century and wont have to use your caveman thumb to spray water………….
I spy with my little eye… a missing bolt from the front rocker cover. you can see where it should be just before you put the air filter and airbox front cover back on.
Electrics and hybrids are hilarious; no transmission but it's still got a PRNDL…
Since manufacturers(+ gov't collaboration of course) insist on designing such P'sOS, they ought to be 100% responsible for absolutely every single repair item, for at least the 1st 100K. ๐๐
