How did you know so quickly to replace the master cylinder? Was there an indicator light? I have have had numerous occasions where the problems were broken lines, split lines leaking connections, a blown wheel cylinder with the driver driving until he had no brakes, telltale signs of grass and weeds, curb concrete damage, etc. I always, no exception, did a thorough visual inspection of the undercarriage and lines first. You usually do inspections first, so why not in this case?
Motive power bleeder for me…use ferncos as adapters…end cap..and transition connectors.. use large vw rear hub socket sitting forever as adapter. Be creative.. I ain't paying for an adapter I can create.. some I used cap adapted barbed adapters at hd… I have 6… takes 3 minutes to put a special one together… then 1 man bleeding… cheap like 65 bucks… but adapters can cost more then power bleeder.. diy your own..test for leaks before fill fluid duh.. you can buy with car you have adapter.. I manage 6 cars..
Another brilliant design by DORF. Replaced the master cylinder in my Chevy in less than 15 minutes ! Didn't have to remove anything in the way to get it out.
That was clever not checking anything else and straight for master cylinder. There's more than master cylinder it could be . What about other checks first
I had a braking incident (long ago) with my '69 Mustang – had brake pad replacement at a local shop, picked up, all Ok, next day on the way back home from work and coming up to a stoplight the brake pedal went right to the floor with no resistance! Brown pants time! Got stopped with the parking brake before I hit a line of stopped cars in front of me, and the cautiously made my way back to the garage (shaking all the time) – they fixed it, no explanation as to what happened. Never went back to them.
You were pretty certain it was the master cylinder then, I have seen similar symptoms with jammed slide pins, I guess it was brake pedal fade as opposed to brake pedal travel.
Thanks for doing a proper road test. Had a “total bleed” brake job done on an avalanche years ago. Got downtown and a jeep full of kids pulled in front of me and I had zero pedal. Slammed on e brake and stopped thank God.
You know, it doesn't really look like they deliberately make cars hard to work on. If they wanted to do that, shops like this wouldn't exist. It looks more like… well, like they really are just stupidly obsessed with packing everything into the smallest space possible. Vehicle designers: Enough of the stupid pack-it-in crap. Build them with room to get our hands in there and to get at minor stuff without taking half the car apart! Nobody's gonna mind if the hood sticks out another foot.
I am truly amazed by the fact that nobody "REPAIRS" anything in the USA. It always seems to be a case of replacing the complete unit – what a waste of resources. In Africa, I'm from Kenya, and where parts are often hard to come by, not to mention, (for Toyota), being obscenely expensive, I personally would remove the plunger (one circlip), and just replace the two rubber seals at very minimal cost to either parts or labour, I would even hone the cylinder bore.
I am sure you know this already. But for the benefit of your viewers. The best way to clean up the spilled brake fluid from surfaces quick and easy is the rinse with plain water. The old school guy.
Missed the phone. Different shop or phone not installed then? What a genius design with MC behind the battery. Made for servicing, not.
miss the talkative Ray 😢
your way of communicating out what you're doing and so on is to me what makes this an awesome channel

Not talking so much in this video? Bad day? Love your vids anyway.. you da best! 👍
..
“Ford’s new ‘cab forward’ design”! Ain’t it wonderful? One of Ford’s new “better ideas”.
Not very talkative today I guess

Brakes are soo overrated..
It's a fred flintstone car…
Was that a different shop you were in today
Awesome !!

Must be alot on your mind… normally you never stop talking only enough to breathe. This video 12 words maybe
Who needs brakes when you can go reverse 😂😂😂😂😂
you are like car doctor for me 🙂
Customer states: "Ain't got no brakes in it!"
what a stupid ass design.
My mom had a 2011 mks!

When the Bisquits on your Gravy Wagon Fail……That is bad….
"Put me on a Highway, Show me a Sign…..Take it, to the Limit……….One more Time……"

Honest question, why bleed the brakes if you also use the vacuum to pressurize?
Going back through and watching ones I missed, I can definatly tell that Rae has gotten better at presentation over time.
Thanks for doing a proper road test.

Watching these out of order and I'm really creeped out that he's not talking like normally does! Bring me the banter!!
mushy my @$$…. how about non-existent.!!!!!!!! 🙂
Mentions that they drove this w/o brakes Doesn't ever wear a seatbelt….
Ugly car design. Next you will tell me in order to replace spark plugs, you have to drop the engine.
Abscense de soutitrage
Just curious… 2011, 120k… how does this compare to other cars… is this particular MC more problematic than others? Great videos!
Drove a Super Duty 8 miles to the house with only the emergency brakes! Not smart but got home safe!

Oh that brake fluid exchanger is cool as hell
It's wonderful how they can bury the parts most likely to fail. Then make the attachment devices so "easy" to get to.
How did you determine the BMC was bad and not some of brake componet?
Nice job. Very organized about it all.

Damned…at min 23, I thought, YT Music started a Deathmetall Playlist in the Backround
Engineers should have to do car repair for a year before being able to design a car, a little bit of empathy for the mechanics would be nice.
I drove mine in when the master cylinder took a dump. E brake the whole way.
Looks like a pain and a half to service. Bad placement is a great way to turn five minutes of work into fifteen or more!
Wonder how the pads are.
