Fabulous to see a man with morals bust those whom don't

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars tornagawn says:

So….the reason it’s a ‘7 hour job by the book’ is because to be totally anally techy/ etiquette correct you have to remove the front quarter of the car whilst standing on one leg and holding a torque wrench in your hand?
Thank goodness for mechanics with knowledge of material strength (I’ll just temporarily bend it out the way with a pry bar) and percussive maintenance (the correct application of force using a hammer or other weighted tool)

That is how Gordon Freeman answered most of his life problems.

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Swampster70 says:

I guess it would be 7 hours if you used a torque wrench more often 😛

It's great to see a tradesman taking pride in his job, without ripping off customers. (awesome)

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bubba Gump says:

I think the flat rate is a broad estimate across all brands. It was a tool to increase profits and decrease the cost of the jobs that take longer than average. It was a streamline for billing efficiency by decreasing the need for hand calculations for each job eliminating the extra scrutiny of accounting. It is by all means stacked on the service provider’s bottom line Benefits, rarely ever a benefit to the customer.

Angry Indian here for the first time and we all know " the dealer" is always more expensive for the easiest of jobs!! That's why I charge " by the job" because it maybe a five minute job!!! All my customers appreciate this greatly, because once they " pay " there done!! That simple and I've done all this stuff since I was a kid and when I got to Penske automotive it was clear from the get go, they were in it for the money!!! I've been in the trenches at these auto motive shops and most are rip offs!!! Just saying!!! billing some one for a job that actually takes 45 minutes, then charge you seven hours for labor is just b.s!!! These big companies do this to people everyday!! It's how they make there money by ripping you off with there junk cars!!! Then also charge you butt loads of money to fix there" design flaws" !! Most cars are garbage nowa days!! Be good shop around and be diligent in your research on repairs on your car, so you know " the going rate or hours it actually takes… Don't get scammed!!! God bless all angry's gone again!!!!!✌️✌️✌️✌️🤘🤘🤘🙏🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I still think this job would take 7 hours like the dealer said if he didn't have all those power tools and used Toyota provided jack to raise the car and try to change it on parking lot.

I'm not a mechanic or even a "car person". But I can't stop binging your videos!

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Peter Grunendahl says:

    7 1/2 hours??? !!! ???
Yesterday I did it on my car, driver side. Without a car lift and "hundreds" of special tools (witch makes the job easier and faster) I needed two hours.
In my opinion 7 1/2 are no mistake, it's cheating.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gregg McClelland says:

Oddly satisfying to watch a pro do the work. The combination of the right tools and ingenuity make a 7 hour job(for the rest of us) appear like a simple 2 hour job. But leading up to this, there is finding the parts, collecting the right tools, cleaning up after the vehicle repair, and taking the trip to the bathroom. Someone needs to pay for all of the overhead. It either comes from the hourly rate or extra time. So this job has a generous time allotted, but things like diagnosis get squat for time. The experienced guy makes up for the new guys on the floor. I'm sure there are other jobs like this one that have 1 hour assigned and the mechanic loses out if he works for that book time. I feel bad for the guys who get halfway through a job and discover there is another part needed and have to wait for the parts. Not only does it slow down the repair, it takes up the stall and lift preventing additional work being done on other cars. Diagnosis, management, and parts support are key to allowing this expert to do his job efficiently.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andrew_koala says:

The Book-Time is what one may call
worst case scenario – defining what is the absolute
maximum tine the job would take – not the minimum
    time the job would take
The expected time to complete the job would be 4 hours
and not exceeding 7 hours as an allowance for any
    unexpected conditions.
The BookTime is approximately 33% above the average
expected time to complete the job.
=== Fingers Crossed === as we say in Tel Aviv
in arabic has one charge fro the 7 hours one would say
    t the mechanic Tel Hastizi
And you under educated North Americans who have no concept
of phonetic languages it is pronounced = { Tel- Hass – tea – zee )
So when you learn that the letter I is a phonetic E
You will gain an extra ten IQ points
and when you ;earn that S iz not pronounced Zee you will
earn another ten IQ points taking you to a total of 100 IQ points
    zEE HOW EASY IT IZ
    — The next lesson will teach you the difference between every'one'
    and every'body'
Before that starts – Go count the bodies in the closest cemetery
And take note of how their name is written on the Grave Stone.
Then explain why it is written so.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Adam G says:

Maybe a front end alignment was included in the labor estimate?

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars jim leane says:

Maybe supposed to be 0.75 hrs not 7.5hrs

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steven Lavallee says:

Love the video, this fellow definitely got into the right field of work . And I myself really appreciate the honest car mechanics which seem to be few of these days cause everyone's after the quick buck. These guys sure earn there money ,cause it is a very hard line of work . I have to fix my car myself cause I can't afford to take it a shop. But I sure as he'll wish I could , I dread working on any vehicle. I sure hope they tip this guy, I'm sure he saved a ton of money for the customer. Thanks.

Just because you know a faster way to do it does not mean you should under cut yourself and your skills.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jack Walker says:

The book is right. It would have taken me more than 7.5 hours. No tools, no lift and no knowledge. You have all that and, I rest my case.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gone Looney says:

you have to choose wisely – a chain muffler repair shop told me it would cost $300.00 (I'll only say chain's name starts with an "S") just as a BASE price to fix my minivan's muffler, it could be over $400.00 – so I went to a privately owned auto repair shop instead and they guy not only custom made a perfectly fitting part to fix it, the whole repair only cost me $40.00. unfortunately, chains often are total rip-offs. So support a local small business and get better service for a much better price!

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joseph McCormick says:

Experience that's what you pay for to make sure it's done right I have no problem with that

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Scott McAuley says:

So realistically it should be a 2 hour max, because he did it in under 40 minutes!

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chuck Holmes says:

I'm sure the 7 hours is for garage and floor jack times using Home Depot socket sets etc. not the right shop tools… and by the way those bendable torque wrenches ARE NOT THAT accurate the digital ones are spot on

I do them in 45 to 50 minutes

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars aCycloneSteve says:

You can bill what you want, but because you have the skills AND tools to take short cuts you can get it done faster.
Should you punish yourself for being better?
You should either charge more per hour than average OR just bill everything as per the book, (as long as you're consistent)

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jason Anderson says:

Awfully close to those side skirts/pinch without any spacers.

You know what your doin' tho 😉 I don't know why they build crap like this. I think it's just to prevent the common man from attempting it in his driveway to save money. The control arm is easy enough, but when you're designing the car, Why would you willingly do this? Is there no other location for that little support arm on that mount? No other possibility? Just like how the cops pulled me over day after day for my "illegal scooter" (Not illegal). They just didn't like the fact that I am saving money.

I don't know why they won't build a simple truck. or a car. like a geo metro again. or a base ford ranger thing. No anything. low price. Easy maintain. Well I do know why. Laws and regulations on weight and size and technology are a big part of it. AKA Government. Also, why sell a $6,999 truck for little profit when you can pack endless entertainment and endless features into your vehicles and charge $40k-$80k! Not to mention, the customer will have to come back to YOU when the car won't start because the #2 Fuel Injector Temperature&Time-of-Day-w/Integrated-Bluetooth-Speaker-Sensor registers that it is 2 degrees cooler than the PCM thinks it needs to be for an optimum start that morning.

Ever heard of a torque wrench?

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nick Blacksoul says:

Hm …. What happens if the time book says 45minutes and you spend 5 hours ? Any how … Love your torque wrench it almost looks as sexy as mine

I enjoyed watching every minute of it, your very handy on that.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bornwestusa says:

I don't have access to a labor guide, but I would charge 1.5 to swap a lower control arm, plus a 4 wheel alignment on most asian cars.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daniel Taylor says:

I'd like to start a new discussion. A Nail the same size as a cotter pin is stronger than a cotter pin. Why not use a Nail if you can instead of cotter pins. Yeah, I know it looks hillbilly—all day long. But the truth is: Nails are usually stronger and more resistant to wear and road debris (cotter pins should not be exposed to wear). Speaking of hillbilly–Moonshine works for cleaning things and running your car. So them Hillbillies might be smart after all. Tell me what you think.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars charlyRoot says:

The 7 hours is if you use your feet. The one hand book time is 4.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mac Coolmac says:

Only if tire shops would use torque sticks, constant over torqued lugs.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dr Evil says:

    They meant 7 hours's labour cost. F-ers

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Curt Landgraff says:
