Every dealership out there are criminals
You could have just cleaned and scotch brited those slide pins. Thats what i normally do, then add more silicone.
What asian car with 100k miles doesnt have a leaking steering rack lmao.
Your service writer and shop manager need SLAPPED!
I wonder if any mechanics are watching their work on your channel sometimes like 😳
The dealership sure will because of the yr of the car & because they want to have you trade it in for something new
Always cracks me up, him mimicking the phone, yet sounds nothing like the phone..lool.
I've been lied to in some way/shape/form by every dealship I've dealt with. Mind you, I've only owned 3 cars but, in one instance, one dealership wanted to charge me $600 for a radiator leak test and another $500 to "fix" it. There was no radiator leak. There was a pin hole in the lower hose. Never go to a dealership for repairs. Find a garage you can trust. Talk to current customers, ask around, ask your neighbors or friends. But, goddamn, dealerships are some of the worst.
Now, to be fair, not every dealership is corrupt just like not all politicians are corrupt (couldn't say that last part with a straight face). But, in my experience, they can't be trusted.
Yeah, those pins should be able to slide…..your issue was the lock pin either dried out on the grease, or it didn't either have enough, or none at all. But easy fix.
I work at a break factory….i plate the body and support (bracket) to the calipers (for the Honda Civics). Use to assemble the Civics, but I changed positions (Lines).
Learned something about brakes today.
Dealerships are and always have been New Parts Hangers, that's all they do. Bring in a rusty car and they are all stumped.
My Dad always warned me. "Beware of the Tool Truck".
I have a habit of liking things when I laugh. Only because I too feel likes it's Disneyland when I step in a Tool truck
I just realized that I haven't subscribed to your channel. My apologies.
Done! I am now a Rainman Ray's Repairs Subscriber! Your great. Take the internet warriors opinions with a grain of salt. I assume most of those HACKs haven't even changed their own oil. Every vlog I viewed you definitely go above and beyond to make sure the customer is safe. That's the goal here. Perfection is unachievable. Your as close to perfect as one can be. Good vlog bro. Keep up the awesome work.
Perfect example of why people don't trust mechanics…and why I learned to do as much of my own work as I can.
You just callim like you see them 💖
these videos are oddly interesting lol. I work on my own stuff so maybe it's educational as well
Rust in the brake drum, not rotor
Why do rear brakes that were supposed to have been serviced recently have so much accumulated crud? Crud on the slide pin fastener visibly flaked during removal — how far back was this 'recent' service?
as you can tell the customer uses their parking brake for everything hahaha
Look! A cassette player!
Squirrel
Shouldn’t the rust of been removed when the drums were serviced/turned by the dealer? Or was that even done
It's true that Toyota service centers charge an ungodly amount for something simple fix to do. My wife is the type that will take her Toyota Camry and have it fixed by them, instead of my 30 years of military and Government equipment maintenance mechanic work. These are some work done, low tire pressure light, stripped lug bolts replacement. The second time happened again on the low tire light on, got it fixed by adding air on her spare tire. The replaced lug nuts and bolts didn't need replacing, because when she asked me to have the tires rotated before, i rotated the tires myself with no problem, right sides rear to front, left same procedures. When she took her car again for tire rotation, the service told my wife that they have to replace her lug nuts and bolts, because damaged or stripped that added cost to the simple tire rotation. As for me, I do my own maintenance on my 1980 Mercedes, Ford F-150,and Explorer Spot Trac. This might be lengthy to say, but people are being rip off of their hard earn money every day by these dealership service. God bless
That's why you should check/lube slider pins when you change pads, not just change the pads.
Good stuff, Rainman!!! The Zen of car repair!!!
Every car repair shop advertise you to replace every part of the brakes am using a scooter or walker for short distance . But I do my own brakes and never let anyone else touch them .
I was at a Canadian tire in Canada buying tires. It was about 600 dollars .I told the guy change the tires only don't call me about anything else .
I went in the store to shop while waiting for tires and 10 minutes later get called to come back . The guy said your brakes are so bad I legally can't let it on the road . I said let's go see .I did a total brake job 3 weeks before . He said he couldn't allow anyone back in the shop so I grabbed a hard hat and said show me or I'm calling the police because you won't give me my truck .
He reluctantly went and showed me . So I asked what's wrong with them?
He assumed I couldn't know anything about brakes.
He said he measured the pads and they are passed working conditions .
He said He's never seen anything that bad. I said cancel the tires .
I told him the brakes are new about 3 weeks old . Go grab a pair of new brake
pads .He does and I asked show me the difference in size .
He didn't give up on the BS so I said put my tire on were done.
I said I'm going to call a supervisor tomorrow and tell them how you tried upselling and lost a $ 600 set of tires .
I know more about cars than most of them . After 40 plus years of working on my own vehicles . You never go to a dealer because there's lots of people to pay and electricity and all things overhead .
You have to find someone you trust and a guy who will do what you ask .
There's few and they're busy so ask friends and you might get lucky .
We bought a new van for the first time in 2016 With the warranty I didn't bring
the van into the dealer ever .
I just didn't let them touch it because I don't trust anyone at a dealership .
The parts are 3x the price at other parts shops. Extend warranties are a waste
of money . You change your oil every 5 thousand klm or 3000 miles.
Change everything as the owners manual says keep your receipt's.
Never leave your receipt's in the car and always take a picture on phone and put it on a hardrives. I bought a battery with 5 year replacement .
I brought my truck into the same place CT to have them rotate tires because I couldn't get them off and they took all my receipts . I didn't know until my
battery wasn't working . I brought it in and couldn't find the receipt.
They wouldn't give me a replacement .So you are the only person you
can trust .
My climate requires snow tires. I service my calipers on every change over. Over kill? Maybe so but they never size. But it's free when I do it myself.
Need an electric rivit gun. Those are sweet
I have a very high appreciation for people that take pride in their work, perform careful and thoughtful examination.
Really hate stealerships. Far too often they have no work ethic, no moral ethic to seek the truth, just a drive to make money at all costs.
Love your approach and thank you for sharing the video.
Your statement about staying objective is true. If you get hotvthe client will alaoc
What kind of brake cleaner do you use on your vehicles if I have a Cadillac 2015 SRX and my brakes are squeaking and little bit in the back when it's cold but can I spray brake cleaner to stop the squeaking Please let me know otherwise but I like watching you you're a professional mechanic and a lot of people from California like me would like to see you move over here that's why we can get you to do more business but I know you live out there but it would be nice to have a good mechanic like you thank you and let me know otherwise what should I do about my squeaky brakes in the back because I only have 35000 miles on my cat lack but the front half 8 and the back half 7 let me know please God-bless and have a beautiful day
My guess is that the driver of that automobile has a tendency to use the brakes and properly. A lot of people will hit the brakes and the closer they get to the stop the harder they will push on the brakes. Which is exactly the opposite way you supposed to do it when you're driving normally. All that does is build up much more heat than you need to. It dries out the grease on the slide pins, and other asundry problems.
I. Love. LOUD NOISES! 😁
lol, stealership strikes again..
This is why i never go to a dealer, except for going to the parts desk when i need a genuine part.
I like how you say to keep your emotions out and just look at it for what it is. Let the parts speak for themselves and go from there.
Step one drive the car, step two douse the car in break cleaner, step three tell the customer “your welcome.”
I do pretty much everything myself. If I don’t know how I research it and figure it out. I swear people think car repair is brain surgery, 99.9 percent of the time it can be fixed with a basic tool set and patience. Proper maintenance is key
How come the rears looks like it has drum and rotor setup
I liked when the candyman showed up.
Preaching to the choir on that one.
Wouldn't a rust remover have helped with that job immensely?
i think you give away to much for me that was no grinding and the car would survive 100k with that. the problem with automatic is you never use the hand/emergency brake.
I've never seen a brake caliper compression tool like that
I put a new rotor and pads on one side of my bmw and found out the other side was siezed so I just left it. I got a airbag recall for free and they said they inspected my car for me also and on the sheet it said all my brake rotors were in the danger zone. Mind you the siezed side I put a new rotor on there too so they didn't even inspect it I imagine they checked one and assumed the rest were bad
I thought the original complaint was rear brake noise, not front brake noise.
“Disneyland for people with jobs”!!! Ah ha ha ha ha!!!
That's called being proud of your work. If you take offense to someone saying you did it wrong
