In this video i show you the process I use to replace the rear trailing arm bushings on the 2013 to 2019 Ford Escape's. The whole arm is really cheap from Ford but they have been on back order for a year now so this is what we do.
-Enjoy!

Should have marked out the position where the original bush sat.
Salty. Very salty. I pushed this job over to someone else. If…. It…. Was this simple, I should've taken it.
Do NOT forget to check the rear suspension – forward lower arms (dogbone style) on these escapes.I have done a plethora of them in the past few years as a Ford tech, because the bushings delaminate on the inner and outer portion of the arm and cause the entire knuckle to shift rearward, causing tire wear and usually a clunk or grinding noise over bumps. Can also be replaced without dropping the subframe.😉Great video Eric.
I bet Mr. Dorman is happy today
Do you charge by the actual time spent or by "book time"? My old mechanic (retired now) billed "shop time", which could be a little unpredictable in the estimate, but was usually cheaper. The new mechanic, who bought the old shop, does "book time" and wants to charge $2300 for a clutch replacement on a 2012 Corolla. That seems insane to me, but is that the current state of auto repair?
I have doorman wheel bearings on my focus. The Chinese brand from newegg failed instantly. And the refused my return.
we do these very often at the shop
no wonder why they rip apart, when you know ford put Focus bushing on a SUV
Thumbs up for the audio 👍
All the bushings in these fords and our Australian ford falcon and all the large suv's are the worst design rear ends on any cars, they are terrible, that is why i sold my ford falcon FG XR6-the stupid design diff bushes and suspension bushings are a joke. I will never ever buy another ford car of any model again! Absolute garbage.
Thought they were on recall. I know explorer was on recall twice for those items.
Eric you keep America rolling 1 car at a time.
“Your standard shop adapters” hehehe
Moog also makes a good bushing for this. I did this job on my ‘13. Ford wanted over $400 for the whole trailing arm assembly!!! Wouldn’t sell just the arm itself. Ridiculous.
Just occurred, seems like "Big Nasty" hasn't made an appearance in awhile…
I hate those ford escapes!!! Especially those faulty rear diffs 😐😐. Thank God they pay about 8 or 9 hours 😂
Is this a Ford thing where "close enough is good enough"?
Medium hammer ( 5lb) ,wilton vise, and a harbor freight socket. Don't beat on your good stuff
This version is so easy, the Volvo wagons do not have this clearance to allow for any tool to fit, there is actually a kit sold for that which I think is ridiculous.
Im really surprised that you said that that dorman part fit well. I was not expecting that
Dorman bushing is good? If you are in danger, please look at the camera and blink twice!
And just remember folks, I want you to to go into that comment section, you thoughts, concerns, opinions. The facebook, the insty. And just remember folks: If I can do it, you can do it. Thanks for watching.
Just thought I would throw that in there Eric.
Its not a SMAC video without that closing 🙂
Mr O your Govnerner. Wow she HATES. THE GOP.
👍thanks Eric,,,, Dorman junk,,,, better than no parts !! LOL
Good fix Eric O. Appreciate the videos buddy 👍
It's so easy final last words✔✔
OMG – Just what I needed AS I needed it. Thank you!
👍👊🇺🇲
👍
Another great video and great info! Thank you!!!
If you don't have a press try a BFH 👍😂😂
Eyeball and just a little bit are 2 Dorman measurements anyway !!
Eric, hope Santa brings you some air for that press. 😁
Pretty good calibrated eye you have there!
Great video. Again.
BTW sound is better then ever. Less background noise and echo. I have some tinnitus, so I struggle sometimes to hear YT-videos well, but you have a good strong voice, great dialect, and now less noise.
Like I needed another reason to follow your channel 🙄😂
Or if you don't want all that hassle Dorman has the complete assembly to bolt on as well.😎👍🇨🇦
Audio sounds awesome on my Roku tv alot Better than when you first used the new camera love the video too as as always
That was fast.
No Mrs O? 😌
Don’t forget the weld to hold it in place there Eric as per ETCG specs 😂
Just weld up an arbor and use a bottle jack… or Harble Frought is cheap now too.
Once again your instructions and comments are right on point thank you for the information
There should be a notch on the outside edge of the arm, align the flats with that ( that's how you do it on the Mondeo)
good job boss.
Your standard shop adapters 👍
My first SMA tee shirt has reached the end of it's service life. It will be find it's new life as a shop rag. Fear not though, a new shirt has been ordered and all will be right with the world.😂
Per SMA; Remember folks, always clean your hole! From your lips to God's ears! 🙂
Excuse me it is a Ford Es COP eeeeeeeee
Dorkman to the rescue…..
I would think that little heat would also allow those bushing to be installed without a press.
Your the real Thing !
That's a lot of work for something that's trying to escape from the trailing arm but then again it's just trying to trail behind it like they said so it ain't really trying to keep up 😆
What are the symptoms of a bad one ?
South Main Machine
Awesome job sir
I am in Bay St. Louis, Ms, Is there anyone you would recommend in my area of 39525?
Hi. I just got a 14 Escape titanium with the 2.0 Eco and it only has 46,000 miles on it. What are the signs that the bushings are going out? Does it start squeaking or out of alignment? Thanks for the demo on it.. I could do that myself, I just need a press and a way to get the collar out.. But, I'd just remove it and take the arms and new bushings to a shop that could do that.. Thanks!
Thanks for quick tip!
Is Josh his son?
Saw the history Guy on Salt potatoes and salt springs of Sericuse ,NY liked your cooking show and autto repair goot shooting too !!
BOUM BA DA BOUM !!
Not sorry. Sharpie to mark depth and orientation. Great job.
Eric, you're the man!
Amazing to watch you take minutes to do what for me would be a weekend job.
Nice work Eric O.Thanks
Sledgehammer and a pipe . Have your buddy hold the pipe.
Looks like the same 1 for the focus as well
From the UK and I have a 2011 ford Mondeo, same type of bush. Terrible design but I bit the bullet and fitted polyurethane bushes. Bit more expensive for sure but ride quality is still great and I'll never have to change em again. If you start getting wear on inside edge of the rear tyres, defo suspect the trailing arm bushes
Easy peasy! Thanks fella!
Using the right tools makes it so much easier.
Really should measure that angle with a Ray's Eyecrometer.
Just flip the vehicle over in the parking lot and glue the bushings back in.
Stick powerflex bushes in it they should never need doing again
I always appreciate Dorman's life saver situations like this where it's either Dorman or Facked. Even though, I got burnt by Dorman plenty of times.
I am waiting on a service manual called Eric O’s If I can do you can do it service manual. That would be epic.
I see fluid film is on the job as well
You were moving like a man on 4 cans of Red Bull. Congratulations well done .
"Eyeball it, bc we are pros"🤣🤣 True. No grease before press?
Almost spit my coffee out. Did I hear you say that you can't knock Dorman for a part. 😲
"First time using this big, fancy microphone."
First time using the word "scoche"?
Thank goodness for Dorman! Wait what did I just say 🤷♂️
I guess this was the one that didnt get away…..
OK lets see that Krown spray job on that Toyota pickup after the first spray and your DIY one time touch up. Have you done any more spray touch up ? Come on and put it on the hoist and give us a walk around.
And remember if I can do it, so can you.😁
When does a nuclear physicist do when he bored of splitting atoms? He works in his Father's garage.
These videos show how poorly engineered sugar is sold to us today. You can't beat poor engineering. You have to live with it as best you can. Thank you
👍👍🇸🇻
The best videos
GREAT VIDEO..
Thats great and all…. but have you ever tried the down on the ground on 1 knee, a hammer, a large socket and 3 hours of gumption method?
Good work
Eric, audio sounds fine to me, watching on a PC using Firefox.
I see you are working smarter not harder these days by letting Josh do the grunt work. 😂😂
Short and sweet.
Dorman parts : ) I used to drove a 1994 Dodge… now I drive a 1994 Dorman… pretty sure most parts I've used were Dorman anyway, seems they are the only ones that make every part ever.
Is it something that it's hard enough to push in that it has to be anchored somehow or could you do it sitting on the ground with a C clamp?
