In this video I have a look at a Nissan Frontier that was towed in after having the parts cannon unloaded on it several times. The vehicle had also been to the dealer for a few guesses but was still unable to be fixed. Ohhhh this should be fun ๐

You need a vacation Mister owe you and Miss needs to go out and enjoy life for a little while and get away from this mess your mind doesn't explode
that was cool
Awesome job Eric! If you ever want to rule out the APP and TPS quickly in the future I have a tip for you.
Put the ignition in key on engine off. Shift the gear selector to drive. The ecm now thinks youโve met the criteria for the input command (app sensors) to send the output command (TP movement). Oddly enough engine speed isnโt in that criteria. The TPS should now react to APP input allowing you to quickly see if the ecm is able to command the throttle to open and close. You can use this to check for tps or app drop outs. The dual throttle body vehicles will work also but have a different maximum voltage FYI
I'm in Maine but I'm really tempted to bring my '04 Frontier to you!
Ahh computers!
Nice job, thanks for the link to L1, very interesting.
I have an 05 frontier with the code. It's only shut off on me twice and hard shifts. I had the trans cooler burst and Nissan replaced it under warranty like 5 years ago. But I only use the truck for offroading since then so I average maybe 3000 miles a year. Now that I'm doing more road miles it's starting to bug me. To my knowledge it should be the original ECM since I'm the original owner.
Even Nissan doesnโt speak Nissan since the French bought them. Talk about lost in translation.
Lol. I don't speak Nissan! ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Just sometimes, life kicks you in the balls… But, you're now a little less stupid… ๐
Frustrating as hell. Sure am glad you had to go through this and not me. If I ever and I mean ever have this problem…I promise I will never forget this lesson…well…I can repair it in record time. Make a ton of cash, and take all the glory for being GURU! Thanks man!
Way to continue to work the problem! So many would have threw up their hands and gave up. Great job Eric!
Great job by you and Keith. Am assuming the customer was over the moon with relief.

I wonder why Japanese stuff is known to be high quality, but effing Jatco is stuck in the 1950s when Japanese things were rickety junk like China is now. Funai is the electronics firm for pulling the same thing, garbage Japanese products for the world's poorer clients.
Videos like these make me extra proud to wear my south main auto rag lol
Always love the Blues music…
Good job! we used to have a saying at a dealership I used to work at – "jack the radiator cap up and drive a new vehicle underneath" You probably felt like this on this one.
Just think…none of this would have been necessary with a manual transmission.alas that's impossible today…or even yesterday with the v6
Unfortunately most people donโt know about the faulty radiators that kill the transmissions in these. That was fixed 2010-2021 models though. Shame on Nissan though.
I'd really like to see Customer Reactions to some of these. When they come in and ask what was wrong with it: "Yeah, the first shop you took it to had it about %80 correct, but they missed this step and that lead you down this expensive path of sadness and depression."
Scotty say the customer should have just bought a Toyota.
Lmao Iโm not fluent in nisssan. Itโs the Nissan ramen ๐
Nice troubleshooting
I was surprised that Eric got it fixed Datsun.
When it gets so complex the dealers can't fix them, it's time to rethink & redesign these cars.
I found out quick that working for Nissan wasnโt worth what they paid, especially the warranty jobs and there is a ton of those. Countless hours of unpaid diagnostics and they have little resources of their own vehicles. What you go through with your scanner isnโt much less than what the techs at the dealership has.
It's Nissanese.
Great job
Eric O. in the know! What a pro!

This was a hoot Eric O ๐ณ so much frustration @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Nice work Keith ๐ช
Interesting how the accelerator ping shows no movement on the ping but the throttle position ping works but when you showed the graph the acceleration sensors worked fine on the graphs intriguing ๐ค Eric O not a bad theory on the Ecm omg the Vin was Written to the new ecm correct hmmm oh wrong ecm box okay that makes sense lmfao very interesting ๐ @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
โVIN numberโ
Sounds like Nissan hates you, and all professionals.
"I assure you, it is big". Thats what we all say ๐ Love it, keep the great vids coming.
Best day of my life is when I saw my 05 Frontier drive away with the new owner and went and bought a Tacoma.
and there are still people that don't understand why so many mechanics have
substance abuse problems.
question: after buying the used ecm, having to send it to your friend and him do his magic, was it still cheaper than buying a new ECM from Nissan that would have been correct from the get go?
Grrr, I have been dealing with a nissan altima lately and the codes are nuts don't make a lot of sense. I haven't heard anything in a week or 2 so who knows.
I hope the cust fell to their knee's at your feet and praised you .
Another amazing job! Your investigation skills are unmatched.๐ช
The answer is, don't buy a Nissan.
Challenges can be frustrating . Rectifying the ones that tax your skills usually are the most satisfying. I was impressed. You obviously are not one give up easily. Keep up the good work.
Wow, so how much money did the customer end up putting into this when all along it was the ECM issue?
Amazing!
Impressive investigative work. I hate to think how much money the owner threw at a 15 year old knee-San.
