In this video I have a look at a Ford Escape 3.0 that came in with the money light on and it had a code for the EGR solenoid control circuit. Another shop all ready unloaded the parts cannon on it. Remember with circuit codes rarely are you looking at a "hard part." Focus on code set criteria and how does the circuit work. -Enjoy!

I have 2004f Ford escape and it has rough idle. When I unplug vacuum hose on egr valve it smooths out. I replace all vacuum hoses. Any help
God bless you and restore your soul, for following the golden rule, because it can be unbearable when people don't see your honor as something worth more than all the gold and parts in the world , Eric O Yeah you are appreciated!
How you doing sir have a question
If I need to know something it always ends up to you. Thanks for your knowledge.
Don't hit the garbage truck!
Hey, you're a true mechanic. Most people are just parts changers they can't diagnose and repair things like you're doing there. Big thumbs up for you bud keep up the good work. Just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work thank you stay well and have a beautiful day. Jim
Eric O: "It's a good thing I don't have a large storage facility". His latest video showing him building a larger building.
You the MAN ….I like it when the tech has the knowhow to do a job and is truly honest about it…KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC KNOWLEGE GIVING…I learned a lot from you ….THANK YOU..PS I would make the trip from Toledo just to have you work on my vehicles..worth the trip and money..
Eric please tell me , what do you tell a customer that payed hundreds of dollars for parts that they may not have needed. Do you tell him or her " Hey lady here's your problem, a broken wire.
You're a genius, at least in my mind. Keep up the good work, champ!
I thought you got in an accident the second drop!
I always enjoy your videos
My problematic Mazda Tribute 3.0 has an EGR circuit code. I'll look for a broken wire.
Great work man, what part of the united states are you in,
Yes Eric. I tried to hide a P0740 code on inspections for 5 years by getting the monitors to clear and then getting it inspected before it set again. The problem was the clutch itself and I didn't want to replace the converter because it just wasn't that important to me. My little Acton scanner would let you run an active scan of the monitors as you drove so it was easy to do.
You’re a great guy and great mechanic. I hope you know how blessed you are to have Mrs. O and your kids…very nice.
This Video made me laugh a lot your camera man always likes to throw us around.
I wish EVERY mechanic had your mindset. It would dramatically cut down on the number of dangerous vehicles that get "new" inspection stickers. Get the DEATH TRAPS off the road!
Who knew that mild-mannered Mrs. O was actually Avoca's very own super-hero. Well…her secret identity is out now!
Love this channel, no BS, has humor, takes care of the customer, little peak at the family and shop, and just fixes the damn vehicles.
Exact same fault I had on my 2003 3L Escape, same code, same wire. I found it by watching another video on youtube since this happened to me about a year ago, so it seems like this is common fault atleast when getting up in age.
Life lessons by Eric O: just fix the car….. true in many areas of life. Don’t over complicate things. 👍
wow now the big money BOSCH scanner and big renewal fee all I can say is south main will be closing and doing repairs only for you tube videos and Eric o will retire soon lol Big deal::: you tube must be paying well ……
Aren’t the other shops embarrassed that they try not to learn how to do the job as a mechanic? Oh, South Main Auto tell us how to fix it then we’ll take all the credit and make the customer pay double our charge and your charge.
Ford EGR system problems… Diagnosed a bad DPFE sensor on a Ranger.
The truck came from a dealer with the money light on… The sale hinges on making the light go out…
I replaced it with a house brand from Advance auto parts since they are in the same building…
The sensor failed before the truck could leave the bay.
I send it back and Advance sends me the next one off the shelf… It's bad as well…
It's close to closing time so I send a man to the Ford dealer, I have the part n will call.
I swap it with a Ford part from the Ford dealer and it works perfect…
After that I would not take a DPFE sensor that was not from the Ford dealer. I'm working flag hour and I don't have time for bad new parts.
My friend hope you are doing well, what is the model of that Autel Scanner???
That episode was full of funny moments.
Fix the awful audio buzzing. Too annoying to watch until it seemed to have gone away
This may have just helped me start diagnosing the intermittent rough idle on our '03 Escape V6. Once or twice a year (seems to be when very hot out, and after a highway jaunt) it will start idling very rough, EXACTLY like this one did when the EGR was manually engaged at idle. It's so infrequent I haven't devoted any time to it so far but if it happens again I'm looking at the EGR system first at least. Thanks!
Also in NY, knew someone that once taped a Reece's peanut butter cup wrapper to their windshield one year the inspection sticker was orange.
When I had my Jeep, if I was having trouble passing inspection, I would whip it through the mud to get a nice covering over the whole body and windshield. That bought me some time until the day I ended up at a checkpoint… they scraped off the mud haha
Is it me, or is it the warning tone he got as he was backing out of the paddocks (it was the seatbelt tone turned out) it sounded like an AIM-7 Sparrow Missile Lock?!
I have a 1997 Honda Passport 3.2 engine with EGR valve problem -code for "insufficient EGR flow" crops up. I have checked the EGR pipes for blockage – it is very clean. I checked the EGR valve and it is clean. I then checked air intake manifold and throttle body – they were a little bit dirty-cleaned anyway. The code keeps appearing every other day or so or sometimes doesn't show up for several weeks. I even replaced EGR valve. What sensor tells computer the insufficient flow condition? I don't see any other sensors in EGR system. Kinda driving me crazy-any help out there? Car only has 77,000 miles on it.
I am curious-the EGR valve pintle position is monitored by a potentiometer
on top of valve. Why is there a potentiometer? The valve is actuated by
a solenoid – it's either full open or full closed. Or does the PCM send
variable voltage to EGR coil to somehow control pintle position?? If not
then a simple on/off switch actuated by pintle shaft would seem to work.
Anybody know anything about EGR position control? I can't find ANYTHING
on this on the web-hope Eric O (my God) can help-he pretty smart fella
y'know!
Never buy a car with an EGR valve. If you have VVT, you will not have one.
Does New York have a full-on "safety" inspection, plus the emissions? Or is it just an emissions inspection?
Great video Eric O
Wasn't that plastic engine cover recalled for jamming the throttle cables underneath wide open?
What ever happened with the junk Subaru that was sold for big bucks by a NYS licensed dealer with a current safety inspection? Did the buyer get their $ back?
What is the drive cycle and what are monitors?
Ms O is so funny! Good pick up on the fix! Thanks!!
love your fix the damn car philosophy, its mine too. enhance…must be a super troopers fan. oh, and by the way, my wife is a super hero too! Great video as always Eric! Dave from Waverly, NY
half waying repairs means you have to work on it twice as much!
Tug-Test Invaluable!!!
Cool!
Nice!! This makes me feel good about my diag skills. I had a friend with this problem on their escape too. Mine was a little more obvious though.. there were already butt connectors on both wires for the solenoid, and I just had a feeling that's where the problem was so that's where I started haha. Sure enough the wires were broken. rewired it and good to go!
Man how am I suppose to sell all those parts cannons if people stop using them? 😉
