In this video I talk about some of the frustrations of following up after other "shops" work. It is very discouraging to me to see such shoddy work and complete disregard for customers vehicles. Knifing, hackin' and whackin'. Sure, it's ok to get into a harness, it's ok to poke a wire to do your tests. We all do it, we have to in some cases. FIX IT WHEN YOU ARE DONE! Please... and thank you. Have just an ounce of pride in your work and respect for others. -Enjoy!

As a owner of a 1999 silverado I thank ๐ you for these video's I've learned alot !!๐
Good stuff Eric..๐
kinda shame nice truck thinking these thing going to have many issues I'd get rid of it if I'm the owner ๐
Sure, wish the automobile companies would take pride in building their automobiles.
โTalk to me Gooseโ itโs really a crying shame that either younger or less experienced mechanicโs donโt clean up properly after testing? With hard winters and weather bare wires donโt take much to rot out. That you Eric for being a VERY STAND UP EXCELLENT MECHANIC! Love ALL your content!!๐ช๐๐ช
Amazing work and find
"stich puller", yes it's for sewing but works better and safer for cutting open electrical taped harnesses.
Have integrity, take pride in your work and be honest. 3 things my father and grandfather taught me.
You summed it up in โDonโt be a dirtbag.โ ๐๐
I see it a lot in your videos of other shops bringing in vehicles to you, makes me feel bad about the customers. You are going to fix the car and charge the other shop x amount and then they charge more x amount to the customers.
I very much enjoy watching your videos. You are a great diagnostician with the ability and scruples to logically find the problem, fix it, and repair or note any problems you find along the way, including anything you introduced in testing along the way. You seem to be like me, in that a vehicle "talks" to me. That is why you are able to pinpoint a problem. It's not just luck or experience; it's because the vehicle "tells" you where to go. Kudos to you and I hope you continue to produce such quality and informative videos. ๐
watchin' you work has convinced me that my problem with my pcm in my '06 dodge 2500 5.9 will need a good mechanic!
i've watched 50 of eric's videos trying to figure out why he manages to get results where everybody else fails……in the end it just boils down to natural talent combined with a genuine sincere interest in his subject material…….a lot of it also comes from good early tutoring and mentoring by his father…..eric has a feel for cars much like mark knopfler has a feel for guitars, there's a natural aptitude and an energy that hates failure and defeat……250 years ago eric would have been a highly successful freemason cutting hewn stone decorative blocks perfectly to size and then setting them into cathedral walls 60 feet off the ground
A tailors seam ripper is the tool to use to open tape or tubes .
Man, that was a good video!
Awesome, like you, if I find something broke I fix it, like it's my own, might take a few minutes, but you will have a repeat customer, in a good way. Keep on Eric
you are bad ass love your vids
Unfortunately this seems to be the โWorld โ we live in now! No one is willing to โcareโ!
When an issue of one type shows up then thereโs usually 3 or 4 of the type shows up
My impression is that a significant number of mechanics cannot figure out the complex electrical systems of todays cars and trucks and start poking around (literally) in a sad attempt to find the problem by accident.
Always good to find wetness on the first try. Ask me how I know.
I worked on a house that was like that. Whoever the guy before me was, I don't suspect it was the homeowner. I'm pretty sure it was someone the owner knew that said they could get their lights working.. .
Long story short, first time ever rectifying a fire hazard o.o/
A factory cup!
Id never buy an America car!the problem the supervisor gets there drunken brother in-law too work on the assembly line!
Its a Chevy your amazed it dosent run a 2018?
Really sad work no matter who did it. Worse if a second shop saw this and let it go. I do like the way you work. Not a chop shop. lol.
Man I gotta say your really good at diag….I spend a lot of time fixing issues like this and it drives me crazy….. nobody cares to do the right thing anymore….crimp connections are obsolete on most repair scenarios…..solder and heat shrink with proper wire management is the way…..exactly what scan tool and other line equipment do you use? I've always had the most basic stuff anywhere I've worked and I'm kinda jealous lol
All i can say is Wow ๐ฏ.
I hope you charge for your intelligence in figuring out whatโs wrong.
Seems like the owner created the problem. Is it under warranty?
A clipped wire, that's wrapped, makes zero sense. Someone's scamming someone.
Haven't any of these other shops heard of back probing, instead of stabbing all the wires?
Where do you get the awesome wiring schematic from?
I'm hooked, between you and your wife, I'm fully entertained. Nice to see a great mechanic at work.
i hate poking a wire or even back probing a wire! seen techs that will just run a strand wire to fix and issue (ive done it too) but god do i hate that! find where and fix the why to solve your problem when you can!
I have found that small bandage scissors, the kind with the little blunt ball on the one blade, work well for opening harnesses.
To play devils advocate for a moment: This was clearly still in the testing and troubleshooting phase of a repair. They were still hunting for the problem. (Maybe a better mechanic would have found it sooner but whatever) Then with whatever the situation with the owner happens and the truck is whisked away from the other shop. This is not necessarily representative of what the other shops finished product is. They may have gone back and cleaned it up after they found the solution.
Not saying that IS the case, but I would hate my work to be judged based on what it looks like midway through the process.
Pull the fuse and disconnect the module. Connect a tone generator to the wire and quickly find the break just by swiping down the harness.
WET WIRE…SPRAY LIBERALLY WITH WD40..
IT WAS MADE FOR ROCKETS @ SEA LEVEL TO KEEP MOISTURE OUT!!!
When you take ur truck to a Genius this is what happens
Lenny i see that all the time here in Australia all they care about is how much money they can get out of you. Then it comes to me to fix right.
You sir know you stuff, we are a dying breed, take care of yourself, the world needs us!
It is so frustrating fixing other peoples mistakes, youโre absolutely right treat it like it was your own, customers will be happy and youโll know that was done right๐
You give me electrical diag inspiration man.God knows i wanna say fk it sometimes
Light reveals much, and thankful for it
You are a magician, Eric O!
devil's advocate…at least for the loose tape, clips, that sorta thing. they knew they couldn't find the problem and they were bringing it over to you. rather than button everything back up, they were trying to make your diagnostic job easier. that doesn't excuse some of the wire probing stuff, but you said yourself that you found the issue within 20 minutes because of the loose harness.
This is exactly why I try to repair my own vehicles. Things around the house are the same thing, no one takes pride in their work anymore. Even the place I work, we have mechanics who are lazy and hacks. There's a couple good one's who'll troubleshoot though
Nice troubleshooting.
"DUDE, YOU TOTALLY ROCK" ๐ชจ๐ธ๐๐
Stealership plugged in LAN….. bad module. We are done! Next shop butchered it up. SMA to the rescue. Pro at work.
