In this video I channel my inner Ivan to provide a temporary fix on a Jeep Wrangler that came in with no brake lights. Customer said he was buying new lights for the back and just wanted a little Jury Rig back there so he doesn't get a ticket in the mean time. -Enjoy!

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matthew Fort says:

Yup let's see how long this temp repair will stay on.

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Artyom Katkov says:

Fun fact: what you did there is called "kawlkhoz" in Russian. Only the proper way would be to just jam the wire between the bulb and the socket and call it a day. Love yr videos btw, always good content!

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars scott johnson says:

ivan would be proud!!!!!! "ALMOST" NO PARTS REQUIRED!!!!!!!LOL!!!!!!

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Duane Nelson says:

Well it could be a bad grd. We'll put a current clamp on it. Hook one one probe to the fused gw wire and get some current wave forms. It's confirmed bad grd. Now

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stepside1986 says:

This is the same way Ivan fixed a Ford truck about 20 years ago.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Lawrence Jensen says:

Well they don't put aluminum foil on gum wrappers anymore so this will have to do!

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ᄌᄄᄋᄌᄒᄆᄅᄄᄋᄋᄃᄒ says:

No need to order a new light or wiring harness. That is officially fixed!!!

    I thought this was a portable fireplace….

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matthew Zoelle says:

Haha I had to make me a new ground point on a CINTAS delivery truck the other day to make all the tail lights work.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars jorge fernandez says:

A dollar to donuts that fix is still working on the Jeep.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dave Scruton says:

Eric you need to get some better solder! That stuff is too thick. Try some better stuff, you won't be disappointed.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Russell Stephan says:

Good quality temporary repairs tend to last the life of the vehicle.

And don't they just bring on a big ol' smile?

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian Burns says:

It’s neat when there is someone really good at something, and that person it worthy of emulation. My uncle was in the same profession as me. I’m always thinking at work about what he’d do.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jack Roe says:

Once when I was working as mechanic at a dealership a fella brought in his Cadillac – the trunk light wouldn't turn on when the trunk was opened – I asked him
if he tried replacing the bulb – he said "yes" and I asked him "You sure the bulb is OK?" – he adamantly said "absolutely"… I told I would have to write a work order
otherwise ..that it could get "slightly" expensive (shop hour rates apply)…..so, the first thing I did was get another light bulb-stuck it in and BINGO…came on!
I said it's gonna cost 75 bucks because of work order…he hollered 75 dollars! …. 75 dollars!!! Lest be forewarned….!

Rube Goldberg would be proud ,Ivan is a crafty guy

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars GreatNorthernTroll says:

This "Ivan" you speak of… He must be a bloody genius to have come up with that repair! Who knew that an electrical ground circuit is necessary for those lights to operate? IVAN Knew!!! And he passed that secret knowledge on to Eric O… Amazing! 🤣

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars BlueDrive Diagnostics says:

Desperate situation calls for desperate measure. Thank you for sharing this video.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Johnny Massengill says:

Its well known that Ivan in a few occasions has uses washing machine parts on his repairs.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars throttle bottle says:

temporary fix, just use a small hose clamp to hold wire on the socket, or clamp it to L bracket and "zip" screw (self taper) it to whats left of the light housing…
I may have rigged some old lights in the past :))

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Buddy Bacon says:

    Bata bing bata boom

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Syndergaard says:

Reminds me of my '57 Dodge truck. The turn/park was bad in the front, all rusted and cover was broken. So, I removed the entire thing and replaced it with a bulb in the snap-in tail light socket from a '65 Dodge car. I used a piece of 12 gauge house wire wrapped around the socket and a screw in the body to provide the ground and hold it in place. It was still that way several years later when I sold the truck.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars johnaclark1 says:

It's not an Ivan video unless you hook the scope up to it! He's the first guy I've ever seen connect a scope to a starter solenoid to see it's current draw during pull-in and hold-in. Neat stuff, really.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 8bitMicroFan says:

Your inner Ivan fixed a Jeep, that other people would have thrown away and replaced 😀

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eli Herman says:

    Hackerman

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steven H Zoll says:

OK, OK, Lord knows I'm not afraid of looking stupid, but who is this Jury guy. He sure seems to fix a lot of stuff. Maybe you could post a link to his You Tube Channel .
    Thanks!

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars LowBuckPC says:

Is it Jury rigging or Jerry rigging and if the later, who the heck is this Jerry person and what is his claim to fame?

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J D says:

    W.W.I.D.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars khrwjt says:

For odd metal soldering I would polish it up like you did, apply some rosin flux to the spot, then heat it, and flow on a puddle of solder. Then tin the wire with rosin flux and solder. Now the solder is already wetting both sides of the connection. Then place the wire against the puddle of solder and apply just enough heat to melt them together. That way a minimum of heat is applied to the wire and the insulation does not melt back so bad.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stevie Athers. says:

Only at South main auto 👍🏻 Great fix Eric O 🤣🤣 Tin your wire first lol 😆 Thanks again for an entertaining video Stevie 🇬🇧

Perfect video for the person that doesn't have the spare cash. Thanks for sharing Eric

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sam Sullivan says:

I've soldered many light sockets like that. I usually use my butane torch for a really hot pin point heated area.
Sometimes on AG implements this is the only way to maintain a grounded socket.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Tyson says:

I request more shirtless Ivan videos.

    GTR 34 Ivan Repairable

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Patrick Madigan says:

Very good… even though the bulb is loose it will knock around and the filment will break… hopefully it is for a very short term… =)

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars hatfez says:

    Worst soldering job ever!
You scuffed it up, fine, but no soldering paste? You need to tin the socket & the wire first, then give it the beans…

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Duncan Mac says:

Good old 1157's, I know them well…..Great fix! Thanks for the video.
