In this video I do a pad and rotor swap on the rear of a 2015 Hyundai Sonata that is equipped with a mechanical parking brake. This is going to be a little different set up than the style with the electronic parking brake. -Enjoy!

This is how I'll be spending part of my weekend. Wish I had a garage! I'll probably bust that labor time doing it on the side of my street. Thanks for doing this for us! Good info.
Now I have the parking brake on lol
.8 hours for the brakes, and 2 hours to screw around with aftermarket clips.
I missed it, but what are the socket sizes needed?
I struggled with those caliper Mount bolts bad, it was locktite, I cleaned the grey crap out of the threads with WD40 and they worked great after that.
ok at 16.25 what is the torque spec for the caliper bracket bolt ?
great vid..love your attention to detail …cleaned the parts etc …question at 11.18 what is the lube you use …manual says a high temperature grease ??…
What are you doing to adjust the parking brake? Wiggling the screwdriver around in a small hole? Thanks!
"If you got to beat it on there, buy some better pads" says MR.O 🤣🤣
Niiice👌
Also, should lube the "ears" on the new pads and or "clips" where the pad ears come in contact with the clips. 🙂
HEY GUINESS – NEVER SPRAY THE PISTON BOOT WITH "BRAKE CLEANER/SPRAY" PERIOD!!!!! WILL "DECAY/ETC" THE RUBBER!!!!!
Wow…Hyundai actually fixed that idiotic control arm issue the older models had!
good ole dawn soap
Those stupid rear caliber bolts are so tight I can’t loosen or tighten them after I break them
What's the tool for taking the phillps screws out
It's all good Eric o sometimes you have those moments
What is that tool that you use to break the disk lose?
Great video Mr owe . So enjoyed it
Awesome! This Man is what you call, a Professional Mechanic! 😁👍. I’m thinking he could almost do this brake job with one eye shut and one arm behind his back! Seriously, very well done, concise and descriptive, for the average shade tree mechanic/ DIY guy to follow. My local Hyundai Dealer quoted me about $325.00 for a rear brake job, which included turning of the rotors, so maybe the time you looked up is about right? I decided to pick up premium ceramic pads from O’reillys, and replace the pads only. Rotor surfaces glass smooth with no pitying or corrosion, so I left them alone. Thumbs up! Stay safe and Healthy! Peace 👍😁🇺🇸
Any special tool for the electronic parking break to change pads and rotors on a sonata?
Second time watching 6/24/2020
Excellent, excellent excellent….clear and to the point….
Honda factory manual says 8 clicks after shoes lock rotor
“I love the smell of Brakleen in the morning”
What's the name of the brake clean sound effect? Lol
I just did brakes on my 2016 Sonata. First time brakes were done (I did pads and rotors all the way around). Front was easy and quick. Rear should have been. But those two bolts you had issues with? Mine were almost impossible to remove. The two bolts holding the bracket with the pads started coming off easy enough. But a few turns later it got hard. As in VERY hard to keep loosening. Last time they were touched was on the assembly line. My impact wrench couldn't reach so I used my 22in long ratchet. After 20mins PER BOLT and all my strength they came out. Turns out, Hyundai didn't tap the threads right on that bracket (or not all the way), or they left metal shavings inside it. Bolt was impacted with metal in its threads. Before reassembly I had to retap both holes and chase threads on both bolts. After that it went in easily with just my finger, and tighten to spec. Both sides were like that. Pretty crappy oversight on the assembly line. Rear brake job thanks to those bolts ended up taking me over 3 hours. By comparison, I did the fronts in less than 45mins.
Thank you thank you! I'm about to work on my 2016 hyundai sonata and I will be using this video as my step by step!
You should never blow your brakes with air unless you like to breath asbestos.
How come you say "monkey" thanks you helped my boy do his own breaks he's 800 miles away from me, so between our texts and your video he saved himself some coin! Thanks for posting!!
what's holding on those funny parking brake shoes?
Thanks. Glad they engineered a more repair-friendly environment. The older design was just frustrating.
Steel bolt seizes to aluminum bracket.
Thanks for the video!
It's called bimetallic corrosion I have literally seen that crap eat the bottom rails of trailers in between the rivets that were holding the side panels on. The problem the rivets were steel the rest of the parts were Aluminum. It ate the aluminum so fast the trailers where breaking in the middle.
I have 135,000 miles on my 2012 Sonata, did the front brakes at 120,000 and the rear still had about half the linings. Good to know how to release the parking brake when I finally have to do them.
Much better than those 2013 Sonata rear brakes! Nice work!
You got expert sockets I have the 41 inch toolbox
Part number of impact wrench?
Coffee tastes better in a SMA mug
Just had one of my caliper bracket bolts fall out. Yes. It fell out. Thank god it did no damage.
At least Hyundai corrected the control arm interference, need more brake Kleen
How did you get the caliper bracket off so quickly? When I did this, one of the bracket fasteners was easily accessible and other one had absolutely no access because a lower trailing arm was in the way. I had to loosen the lower trailing arm on each side, the whole job took about 3 hrs.
Is it best to replace the stainless steel clips, or can you just clean the old ones? Toyota OEM pads do not come with the clips. I guess the torquing comment was 'tongue in cheek' since that ratchet did not look like any torque wrench I have seen.
Mr.O I’m a Hyundai tech, Hyundai puts loc tite on from the factory on the 15 and up bracket bolts
you shpeak sho funny – it shounds like your tongue got shqueezed in a vyshe grip !
when i saw that you posted this i got excited to see how you dealt with the assist arm only to find out it was too new for that
I had to drill those screws out of the rotors on my 2013 Kia… Nothing worked, impact, chiseling etc. Had me PO'd beyond imagination. I just went up to the HW store and got replacements and just put them back hand tight.
the grease on the caliper bracket and on the caliper is about as useless as the brake rotor screw… just my 2c.
grease the slid pins and SLAM her back together boys
I had to LOL when you said that the caliper bracket bolts aren't something you want to fall off. This of course coming from a fella who once had a caliper bracket bolt fall out, causing the caliper to rotate forward which was now attached by the lower bolt. The caliper then had some interference with the I.D. of the aluminum wheel and crash, bang, boom, a big gaping hole in said wheel, tire flat as can be. Fun times.
