In this video I have a look at a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a customer complaint of no brake lights. Before you get on me about the repair, remember this is just a winter beater. One more NY winter then it is off to the crusher! -Enjoy!

My 2011 has no power to the driver side tail lights. Got pulled over by the cops. Filament was bad on 3057 lamp. New one did not help.

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Willie Robison says:

Also, I put two new fuses under the hood fuse box and the check light shows neither of them working. How can two new fuse test no good?

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Willie Robison says:

Hey, South Main. My mechanic put a new brake switch for me last week. However, two days later my driver's window and door lock switch no longer work. I can lock and unlock the doors with the front passenger door loc switch only. The windows no longer work period. What happened?

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bob Potocki says:

Just amazing. 2005 Grand. Same symptoms. Actually lots of electrical gremlins. Now I know exactly how to diagnose….or at least where to start. Wish I knew how to clean and rebuild that PDC box. Not paying $300 for rebuilt or lots more for OEM.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jacob Wade Thole says:

So my brake lights work when the headlights are off and then when I turn on my headlights then the brakes no longer work and the rear running lights are not working either (check all bulbs)

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars musiclover13601 says:

After you do that. Then it won't start

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeff Phelps says:

    Very helpful! I'm working on a 2004

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Let There Be Light says:

had to take mine to the mechanic. i changed light bulbs, i changed individual sockets, and i attempted to change the brake light switch……. the lights were shorting. one side would turn on, and then the other side would turn on. my blinkers, my tail light, my emergency light all worked. and then after replacing the socket and swapping a working socket on each side, they all turned off……

    i gave up….

mechanic said the fuse blew and the culprit was the right side tailgate housing connectors that were shorting. they replaced the whole tailgate housing and reinserted the brake light switch. 300$ later after parts and labor, i have peace of mind.

free advice for the non mechanically inclined.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Gary says:

Isn’t he still going to be pulled over for the third brake light?

Hi Eric. Please answer me this, why do the air raid sirens go off in your neighbourhood?

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steve Ziegenfelder says:

My Twins have a 2005 Grand limited with the exact same issue. I came home from work and was able to fish the pins out from the contacts and insert a new fuse. The radio 30 amp fuse (inside the car) is the next fuse to go. Good luck!!

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jesenia & bezzy says:

Thanks bro i own a 2006 cherokee was having that same issue. I just happen to pull my number 27 fuse where it is located under the hood my 15amp blue fuse was blown. Thanks allot do more videos on jeeps. Great video saved me from a ticket.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Bill Malec says:

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Greyguild says:

Sorry for asking this but what is up with the ww2 siren I hear???

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dominique Naomi says:

If there was a spare fuse space he could have moved the old wires to the spare location

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars shadymaint1 says:

A Chrysler product with a electrical issue. Oohhh that never happens. Lol

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Car Mo says:

    Thank you !!!

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gort Newton says:

Take the wires under the fuse, connect in an in-line fuse holder and install a glass type M205 fuse at the correct rating.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Boston says:

hey stupid put the year in the title

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ian Brooke says:

I have the same problem of the brake lights not working on my 2005 Grand Cherokee, changed the bulbs, no help, tomorrow I'm changing the fuse. The fuse looks corroded although not as much as the one in this video, maybe that's my problem, I'll see with the new fuse in. Not sure how to go about cleaning it though in that confined space.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ORESTINO says:

    How about the 3rd light?

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Larry Fry says:

Looks like a good fix to me. Have to ask though; if he wanted you to "fix the brake lights", wouldn't you have replaced the burnt-out bulbs in the CHMSL? (yes, I'm sure the CHMSL issue was bulbs, my Grand Cherokees go through those bulbs regularly) Maybe you did, off-camera….?

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Badger Pa says:

Eric it is only temporary, unless it works, then we go for a little more time. Maybe 2 winters. Nice job it fulfills the requirements of the vehicle and it is fused. I think some would have soldered the connection inside the box so they would never need a fuse.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars smbrob says:

Nothing wrong with a floating fuse for an old banger like that. 🙂

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars supermicrodualcpu says:

I would also question the high brake light not working. The hinge cabling to the hatchback may have cracked and shorted out causing the excess current and melty fuse.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Justin Paone says:

why wouldn't anyone go to the fuses before using a scanner? looks like it was bridged with solder. I'll wait to see whats actually going on.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars E Knaap says:

Happens from time to time: People want something fixed on the cheap and then questions how it's done…

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars StarbwoyRyanTV says:

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Notten says:

    Awsome

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeff Jankiewicz says:

Most mechanics would shoot the parts cannon at it. Thanks for taking such good care of your customers. Fuse holder crusty….Plan b….its a beater…love the fuse holder idea. Please show us Mrs. O`s reindeer when she finishes them.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joe Lund says:

    Works for me

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! John Rodrigues says:

I would be happy with that repair on a beater car like that. You don't need to sink hundreds of dollars into a old Jeep. The brake lights work that's what matters.
