In this video I show how I replace the front axle u-joints and hub assemblies on a 2011 Ram 2500 with a 6.7. This is pretty much the same process on the older solid axle 1/2 tons too.

I did snuff driveshafts when I was drag racing to do an axle, its the same operation, just harder to get to the thing ! I'm get tired just watching you do this man .
Soon as I seen the ol press , I decided not to take on this job,,,,I don't have these luxeries under my shady tree, BUT I know someone up the road that does,,,lucky me !
Your food looks disgusting. I bet you edited the part of you puking trying to eat it
Would it be a bad thing to fill the caps up with grease to hold the needle bearings in place
apparently, I need a press. 😁
That's one hell of a job. Without an air hammer and a press this would be impossible. Great video Mr O.
Dude are you in UT
That Harbor Freight earthquake gun puts any tool truck guns to shame..shes a beast..and less then half the price
Will someone please sponsor this man, cause he freaking deserves it
you know your good when you never break a sweat and get to 30 sec long cussing rants. Thanks for your efforts!
Nice job
High volume airlines with inline oiling system will increase life of air tools Eric.
All I want in life is to find a marriage as happy and strong as Mr and Mrs O
My weapon of choice for hub removal is my own big nasty. She don't have a name yet but she's a mean one and makes quick work of those hubs
Those U joints look like cross joints.
Thx!!! Sir …Bam…
I use a ball joint remover for doing them u joints
"Aw ya. RUUUSTAAY."
"What in the thunder" LOL
You da man!!
My truck lost the passenger side wheel bearings on the Nevada/Utah line and i live in Elmore, Ohio on Lake Erie while on a wheeling trip. 2012 Ram 2500 6.7 Long Horn Laramie 4×4 with 148k. That cost me nearly 3k!!! It was a Sunday and i was hauling my Jeep to Northern California to The Rubicon Trail so i needed to have my trailer towed to their shop as well and since it was a casino town, the parts was a 2 hour each way trip… that one hurt and they were fine when i left my house! Thankfully i bought my truck in Atlanta, Georgia and it stays in my heated shop… no rust!
My puller broke the bearing in half. Great fun!
I hope you don't struggle with those U-joints like the last video I seen
I’ve learned a lot on YouTube, you’ve just showed me some things should be left to the pros…you guys have all the toys …”Big Nasty” lol
/(
Oh, sure… where was this video yesterday? 🙂 I just finished putting it all back together after putting the new u-joint in. 🙂
And this is why i always pressure wash shit before i work on it.
44k miles and needs new wheel bearings, WTF
Things should not be that difficult to repair/replace. I’m a boilermaker and we also deal with insanity and over engineering on simple things. Whenever you have to move things to a press and beat the hell out of it, it’ll be hard, expensive and probably need to be done again soon. So it’s futile. We as consumers have done a horrible job at demanding better working trucks for the money they charge us.
This job should be a two hour job done on the driveway.
Just saying.
I want a big nasty!!!!!!
On the axle u joints i use a torch to cut out the cross. Cleans up the oil. Heats the yoke up a bit for reinstall as it grows a bit. No deformation of the yoke as when I use the press. Is this a bad method ?
I used my ballpoint press on mine most times on the tailgate of the truck
Why do they never put grease nipples on these universal joints ? yeah dumb question right
totally understand the rust issue, rust was invented here in Wisconsin
I’ve owned several Dodge diesels, done lots of front wheel u joints. I’ve had the best luck with longevity with the Spicer non greaseable ones. Just my 2cents.
Great video!!
I’ll be damned, learned some good tricks from watching ya here
I'm pretty sure a good air impact would get those out much easier.
Sir I was hoping you could give me some advice. I bought a 2005 Dodge Ram, as I'm disabled and just needed a get around truck.
Anyhow I have a bad click coming from the front left (driver side) wheel housing area only when in two wheel drive, not when in 4 wheel.
Had a friend look at it and he said someone put in a lift kit. They didn't change anything else. So shafts are to short , and stripped at ends.
My question is if I have it in two wheel drive is the actuator not completely disengagng causing left drive to spin.
If I disengage the electrics to the actuator, would the fork completely move towards the deferential, and completely disengage?
Wow those roads will kill a new rig! Thanks for the vid.
I have an 08 Ram 2500 automatic with Cummins. have everything off but have a couple questions. should I have the truck in 4 wheel drive or does it not matter? working on drivers side and axle doesn't want to come out. before I put some force on it want to be sure I'm not missing something. btw, great video.
does the state use the salt on roads non winter season on purpose ?
"Pre rust size!" lol.
Love your video !
Very informative with good instructions
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience
God Bless
Milwaukee makes a great impact
Wheel bearings @44,000 miles!? Oh never mind, it’s a dodge 😒
The truck is wobbling really bad on the lift….
Why not use air tools ? Heat torch ?
yeah, fuck that, never buying a vehicle from where you live or living there.
Try using the tiger tool. I love it . You can chg a joint without removing the drive shaft in some applications.
Do the same disassembly/assembly methods apply to a 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 4×4?
