Eric,
Me thinks you have way to much time on your hands..
An easy 15hp gain!!
I would of soldered each led Strip To the Solder pads At the ends and then only wired 1 black and 1 red wire to the Oem Harness just me though it works either way Good video Eric O @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Lmfao can't see my junk in my trunk with my Hondooo 🤣🤣 Eric O @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
🤣
Hext you'll have the wheel wells lit and have starlights in the headliner…..like a rolls royce……maybe a multi-color spinning disco ball under the hood.
That after market crap!!!😄
“Aftermarket junk”
I did this last fall on my ‘06 Miata. I had leftover non-waterproof LED strips which I’d been putting up in my house. It’s easier to work with than the encapsulated waterproof type, and of course no water ever gets in the trunk, right? 😀
Mine were Warm White instead of Cool White. I can’t solder to save my life, so I had to resort to vampire clips. But I ran one long strip all the way around the perimeter, with slight bends around the corners. I had several rolls to choose from so I used the one that was most sticky.
When I hooked it up I was amazed. Opening the trunk now is like that scene in Pulp Fiction when Vincent Vega opens the briefcase. 😀
Edit: I also tried using one of the waterproof ones on my rear finish panel as another reverse light, as my taillight lenses had been tinted over by the previous owner. The point where the wires attach to the strip (inside the heat shrink) is a weak point. I made the connection ok and it worked when I tested before attaching, but when I attached the strip to the rear panel it got stressed and stopped working. It also didn’t stick well at all, even with alcohol prep on the surface. I taped over the wire ends until I decide to try another strip.
Eric O + Hondoo Civic = EricTheCarGuy 😀
I can't see the junk in my trunk on my hondo 😂
I love aftermarket junk. jk.
When are you installing the remote start??
Performance upgrade! WooooooHooooo!
Upgrade LED trunk lights!!! Stage II trunk lid torsion bars!! Its going to be one sexy Civic. I can just see you at the grocery store with the trunk lid open and a crowd of ricers standing around to get a look… You definitely need a fart can though
Eric will soon be selling a Gold Plated "SMA Car Club" Emblem for your hat shelf. Straight 'outta Avoca!
Great video Eric. I was thinking I could try this in my 02 Buick Regal ls trunk. The light I have in there is bright, but now it can look cool as well. Nice change up to the videos.
I know this video is 3 years old, but Dammit Eric, I saw the offset side cutters you received and had to buy them myself. I must have 15 different side cutters, but for some reason needed the ones you got. You are a bad influence. 🙂
Upgrade god!
I found a brand new set of these EXACT lights in the trunk of a car i bought recently. I think they are still in the trash out in the shop if anyone is interested.
Very nice
Flux helps
I replace the instrument cluster lights in my 03 Tahoe with similar LED strips. It was easy peasy – just taped the lights around the paremeter of the inner cluster and soldered 1 lead to where the OEM lights were soldered. 30 minute job from removing the cluster to reinstalling and the lights are 1000x brighter!
Did this to my boot/trunk and now it's like that briefcase in Pulp Fiction, you need sunglasses on, even at night, to see in the boot/trunk…🤣🤣🤣
Something fun and motivating about having a brand new used car. I acquired my brothers 92 Honda Civic Hatchback. I have been repairing all of the things he suffered for about two years now, one at a time…lol. Now, he LOVES the car again, but it is MINE.
Was that good mythical morning nod?
time for a painting video?
It's amazing that car manufacturers still use incandescent bulbs. That's 100+ year old technology. They get hot and draw alot of current for a small amount of light. I replaced almost all of my interior bulbs with LEDs. They're brighter and the incandescents drained my battery by accidentally leaving the dome/map lights on. The LEDS use less than 10% of what the incandescents used.
What is that folding razor knife you use? I want one!
Put the other 2 on the inside of trunk lid and tie into license plate lighting.
I thought you did not like aftermarket crap ha ha
I thought you did not like After Market Crap
..LOL
What is this stupid fascination with coloured lights? Stupid crazy! Plain white is a lot more practical. At least you have not yet gone totally crazy and put them under your wagon — as some really stupid crazies have done. In protest, am not bothering to watch the whole vid.
Put 2nd set on trunk lid behind plate
Like it..
Disco lights😎 love it
Aftermarket stuff lol
I want one of those soldering torches, but can't find it in the SMA Amazon Store. Who can tell me what it is called? Thanks.
Mr. "I hate aftermarket crap", Lol!!
I love it! Keep 'em coming!!
BTDT on somewhat "dangerous" soldering. Get some carbon fiber soldering mat/blanket on amazon. Pretty good stuff.
Good placement for the initial set of LEDs. Secondary emplacement would be under the forward deck, bit that would involve additional wiring. Important that any lighting not shine in the user's face. On my Miata, I simply replaced the OEM bulb with an LED element–Plug-and-Play, but more expensive. Simpler, though. These OEM trunk-lid-mounted bulbs take a beating, because slamming the trunk lid shut jars the filament of the OEM bulb, breaking it prematurely.
I want them 4 my van ! Thanks Dr. O !!!
It looks great
Now Mr. O have Christmas all year long everytime he open his truck.
Use a K/C light, keeps food warm, and plenty illumination, good day
How much faster was the Honda after that?
lot easier to connect to the light oem plug but still pretty good job
I did this but in bright white
MightyCivicMods!
Nice.liked it.
