In this video we have a look at a common problem that plagues these Buick Lucerne's. It got towed in as a "Crank, No Start" and we made a speedy diagnosis to find it had no fuel pressure. However, is it the pump? Is it a fuse or a relay? Or maybe the fuse box is melting out of it because the seat cushion is pushing on it!?! Stick around to find out! -Enjoy

Thanks for this video! Would have spent so much more money if I didn't run across this video.. Gm should have recalled this. Easy fix
This a known nasty problem with these cars… Thanks for info and fix
So I have a 97 Riviera I access my tank through the top my lock ring was completely rusted nothing but a vacuum to remove it now my problem is I do not have the little Nubs on the tank to receive my new ring is there an adhesive by JB Weld or something that I can push my pump down and hold it with a prop and add a adhesive is there such an adhesive
had a similar problem with a 65 vw bug. the 6 volt battery was under the rear seat. the seat springs contacted the battery posts when someone sat over it. caught the seat on fire. loved growing up in the 70s.
Wonder how many of these Buicks have caught on fire ?.
I had the same thing happen to my 2011 Lucerne. Helped solve the mystery. it wouldn't act up for my mechanic but stranded me twice. It would work until the relay got hot and would start again once the relay cooled off. Did find out that the fuse box p/n was changed to 84446205 which may have the shorter relay. Thank you Eric.
Sweet! Yeah had the same thing happen on my 08 Lucerne CXS and 08 Cadillac Dts. Both with Northstars both same problem within a few months of each other!! I just pulled out fuse box and pulled out pins on fuse block, and wired a new relay up outside of fuse box. Didnt even have to change the enitre box! Was a cheap fix but still running to this day! Lol
So what your is the same thing i been saying for years they basicly are fucking stupid and chevys are garbage
Cost of doorhandle replacement on a 2011 Buick Lucerne
Thank you Eric just help me get my car back on the road. It left me stranded 30 miles away at the tire rack that I got at home swapped the fuse box and back on the road
I have a 2011 Lucerne. No crank, no comms, no power to fuses 1, 28, and 37. Car doesnβt register it is in park. Sound like a bad Fuse block as well ??
Great videoβ¦ Really saved meβ¦ My fuse board wasnβt too badly scorchedβ¦ So I was able to replace the module for about 12 bucks and itβs all goodβ¦ My fuse box does have the mark on the side from the seat clampβ¦ Thanks again
My 06 wonβt crank
I'm so glad I waited to watch your video before working on my car. Your the Best!
Dude you saved me a trip to the garage and an expensive diagnostic check
Loose connections equals high resistance which equals melted pin holders.
I am having trouble finding a new replacement for the Rear Underseat Fuse Block. Care to share where you got yours from Mexico??
Thank you for a great video . perfect instructions
Thanks. This video saved me;β‘
Why did you replace the entire box instead of just the low profile relay (as a first shot)?
We had an 2011 come through our shop in Sherwood Park service Alberta thanks for the video! Love your channel Eric
I love my 2008 Buick Lucerne but there's so many damn problems that you have to fix in the car and I only have 90,000 miles on it and it's the year 2021. The engine internally is good but every other little thing goes wrong with it it nickels and dimes you constantly or should I say dollars and hundreds of dollars cost you. And the transmission is funny on these cars too they start to kind of bang and shift hard after 70,000 miles. I mean what happens with the transmission, is you'll be trying to stop at a stop sign and then you kind of roll with it and go and instead of coming to the full stop and kicking in gear it just slams in the gear it's kind of like a rolling slamming gear transmission. I can't explain it but it sucks it feels like your transmission is going
You can also cut off the little tabs of the metal bracket on the car seat with a Dremel tool cut off wheel easier to handle smaller to take the metal off instead of using that big cut off wheel just my two cents
When you installed the new fuse box have you noticed that these fuse boxes get pretty warm and actually kind of hot? It just seems like there's been a few lessons that I've dealt with no matter if they're new fuse boxes or not they get really hot not extremely hot but pretty hot I was just wondering if you found that true also.
Used this video to fix my son's 2011 Buick Lucerne. Fuel pump relay was fried. Bought a new relay. Still no start. Bought a new fuse box, installed it, and it started right up. I trimmed the seat bracket so hopfully it fixes the issue. I appreciate the video.
That Astro pizza cutter looks amazing, my wife wants one for the kitchen!
A fuse box under a seat is a great reason to Never drive thru water.
Thanks buddy!!!! I have an 08 Buick with the same problem….
you keep the old box, fuses, and relays???? Shouldn't the guy who paid for it get to keep it?
How much should a repair like this cost?
Thanks for the great video. I had this exact issue with 2010 Lucerne. I used to like my car but the fact that they did not recall this obvious safety issue is of great concern. Think about it: fuel pump shorts out at 70 MPH on the freeway….BANG no engine power. Also the backseat FIRE concern, my grandson sits in his car seat right n the fire / fume zone. Thanks alot GM /sarc/.
Toyota seems under-represented considering the numbers on the road.
Why not give the old part back to the customer?
2009 Buick Lucerne same issue no start, fuse box melted . Eric O repaired this the right way.
My ex mechanic claimed the fuel pump failed also.( I 'm not buying this .)
If a mechanic says the fuel pump failed make them prove it .Have them apply voltage to FP and see if it works. and keep the old parts .
Also my ex mechanic did not check or know about the TSB 15-NA-051 and obviously did not make the repair . issue could have recurred .
I wish Mr O should relocate near me . (eastern MA )
So question my 08 Buick Lucerne will start run for about 10 minutes then die could this be the problem currently waiting for someone to get off work to haul it home over hr half away or I'd be able to look but it drove perfectly the whole way there and died as soon as I hit the driveway thank God
What was the issue with the fuse boxes? DTS Cadillac vs Buick Lucerne?
thank you for the video
It says shut the door because you know someone at the dealership backed it out of the bay and ripped the customers door off. Rules and notes are always because someone messed up. Lol
Ok i replaced my fuse box and has low profile fuse in it π now , i take out fuses and reinstall them and it starts again . But next day it does not start? Soooo shall i replace pump as well? And yes i ground off seat clamp down ears.
Those are Navy directions. Last step: "Close the door."
Dude, this is the most thorough video that i have found on this same issue that i am having! I will relace the entire box, just for a confidence factor! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise! I wish you were my mechanic! Thanks again! Very nice work!
Great video my relay was blackened and melted somewhat and that prong seemed to have been made longer than the other three prongs . No one hardly sits back there ,but had a large box not real heavy but maybe enough to bounce around enough to cause my issue . Either way new relay and car started right back up.π But, do I really need a new fuse box ? I can easily grind off seat clamp .
thanks my guy , 2008 Lucerne , had family over for xmas , went out to start the car , crank , no start , bunch of googling and convincing them to let me work on the car , swapped the relay to the right of it for the fuel pump relay and vrooom
don't know if its universal but the one that's near it for me is the accessory key lock , so basically cant take the key out without a swap unless getting a new one , so be doing that tomorrow , thanks for the help tho
Hi Eric. I have been learning from you for years now and I am a huge fan! I have a 09 in my shop and i found the same issue. I replaced fuse box and cut the seat bracket. Two weeks later the car is back the same issue. I testes the amps draw from the fuel pump and it was 7.5amps, i tested for shorts as well but didnt find any. I have a brand new fuse box on the way but i have read that this can keep burning up fuse boxes I know you are really busy and cant get fo all these comments but, i am a new garage just opening up. I cant afford a unsatisfied customer. Please help!
I had my buick die on me driving from my moms house on the highway luckily I felt the power drop and was able to get off the highway before it died completely. Me and my cousin have been stumped by this for a day or so now this video really helped me thank you
Where could I find a lower profile fuel pump relay fuse? I live in NY. Thank You.
Enjoy your videos.
Close the door lol priceless π
I did it myself and saved a few hundred. Thx man!! ππ
