Come along with Eric O. when he finalizes the fix on this 2005 GMC 4500 with the LLY Duramax Diesel that is having some sort of issue with the FICM and the injectors and a code P1229 that we diagnosed in a previous video. Time to learn something!

I was a diesel Marine mechanic Now that’s a real mechanic right there not a part changer
Eric, you say you don't want people to think that your 'God's Gift' to broken cars yet you show how you can do amazing things like fixing this truck. Don't you think this is counter productive? You just have to stop posting vids where you are looking so incredible and people will stop with the advice calls and wasting your time! Keep up the way you have been going and your doomed to be a legend! (in MHO) Let's see more vids where you tell the owner that their car is good for nothing but junk and and show the wrecker taking it to the scrapyard at the end. That will cut down on the YouTuber calls.
Which autel do you have and do you like it ?
Let's see, couple thousand work before Eric. Eric has Immediate problem thinking 12v but not. When he finds other voltages for it to send proper injector firing finds it's the ficm, (fuel injector control voltage), feedback circuits overwhelm the Eric for a while, while scratching head. Gets to the knowledge feedback from other injectors firing on the power circuit, says, hey ficm, which all the money and fiddling never found the right faulty component. Not sure how many thousand would have been needed to find the problem. What this means to me is, someone in his area needs to be a diesel guru like Eric is a circuit guru I would trust and have trouble understanding exactly how he found this.

The Jeep Hat Giving you Good Gm Vibes Eric O good video and Series As Always @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Hopeful I never need this, But being to old do this any more we sure enjoy trying to keep up, keep up the good work,,
when eric first lifted the hood showing this setup i thought it was fking shocking….engine bay totally filled with crap and plastic and no engine visible……to me it looked like an impossible job…..he puzzled his way through the first hour basically teaching himself how to do an appendectomy while performing his first appendectomy….but here we are cured up and fixed….eric is a very smart and persistent dude who likes to pretend he's a kinda sorta dummy stupid guy…..he reminds me of richard dean anderson's character on Stargaate SG-1 Colonel Jack O'Neill, who sorta plays a simpleminded guy but who knows and does everything when the chips are down…………………………this was a decent video, not my favorite by a wide margin….when this video was over i was left admiring my 1935 vintage Lister diesel 6 hp single cylinder engine where the fuel pump and everything else is entirely mechanical, no wires or modules or computers or waveforms…for 50 years all fuel pumps were based on the same Lister mechanical fuel pump and when you had a 6 cyl engine they just lined up 6 lister single cyl fuel pumps beside each other and stuck in a teeny tiny cam shaft to drive them….beautiful, simple, serviceable, accessible, foolproof….and gone with the wind
Great critical thinking skills, only thing missing was mrs O
Hi my friend i have truck , no pulse injectors you can help me my name is James, you can help me with diagram FICM and ECM thanks i have silverado 2002 6.6 2500 HD
Hi amigoes it's assumed how the technology permit to learn more by the videos special if we have a good instructor like you. Thanks for your support .
The "baby" units , have their own (chaffing, connector problem), that said. Ty sir ,for a humble and well made diagnosis video. Battling a 04.5 myself atm lol. Wish me luck 😉
You're the best.!!!
Thank you keep it up great help good logical trouble shooting
Seems my channel got deleted again 2nd time on YouTube,I don’t make content so don’t ever say anything about politicians except Trump or deleted channel. To my point I had to rewatch all S.M.A content a 3rd time to thumbs up all of them so I know I watched that particular content. Well worth it. Now I use my wife’s channel. Realistically I watch S.M.A any time I’m bored no matter what video I still learn stuff.
My degree is in electronics, but not automotive electronics….however, I understood perfectly what you were describing. Good video.
Good notes hahaha watch your video
The only concern I have with the diagnosis of the module is, WHY did the module fail? I'm always very apprehensive to replace a module unless I know why it failed. Because how do you know that the replacement one won't burn up too?
9 hours $225 wow try 9 hours $990 any mechanic in Australia right now.
Diesel injectors do not have a coil inside to fire, it uses piezo crystals that expand to open valve
Well you and I both man I can say I know more now than I did first time
Can't belive the dealer could not fix it, what did the glow plug have to do with the problem and reprogram the computer, he got a first class ass fucking if you ask me keep up tje good work
Great job
Top class diagnostics, as always 👍
The offset between the input and output is because you're probing the wrong input – I don't know the firing order of that engine, but you're probing the control wire for the injector firing before #3.
I was suspicious of some sort of driver module 'cause the Amps:Volts ratio wasn't gonna come from a PCM. I was thinking a quad driver or quick-switching MOSFET. I still wonder why the coil collapse is so long before the spike of 50+ VDC.
….and, yeah….. 50V will kick a bit ….. but it's the Amps ya gotta worry about.
You're laid out across s lot of potential grounds and sticking a probe into places where ya shouldn't… zap!
Then ya gotta sharpen a new point on your probe. BT-DT!
I notice that your probe is long enuff for many re-sharpenings. Just sayin'……
If it wasn't for nothing but your Columbus attitude (seek, and ye shall find) I 'd still watch just for entertainment value. Love ya, guy!
Dr. O 's operated and it was a success
👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
One of these days this guy will come to you first.
Reman FICM is a cool grand. Factory new is 1500.
Keep up the good work
Classic blown capacitor
Hello, how much is your job in this work? Thank Gabriel Chile
Eric is now the Duramax expert ….LOL
FICM really Fu- -ed him
This reminded me why I had hated working on trucks, and that was before computers !
FICM? I dont even know him!
Man weird to see an increase from 12v to up to 50v increase on that injector
That's why you dont buy a duramax. Pain in the ass to work on. I fix all my cummins with a simple 80 buck scanner. Easy peezy.
The electrical mombo jombo bored me to death. I wish I could understand it.
This ain't brain surgery…or maybe it is! Using logic…what a concept!
did you find the coolant leak?
Great Job Sherlock (Mechanic of Auto)
Eric , I can explain the basic diagnosis in TWO WORDS , the truck had a : 'Fickle FICM' . lol .
Good one Eric, I remember watching a video on the reason for double firing of the injectors but it draws a blank now on why. It's high tech stuff. LOL
You did a superb job at translating the project. it need a computer, it seems to me that
truck is poorly designed. all that electric, we didn't have all that junlk that is used now,
what do I know, …. I know……….nothing…. that's why I listen to you Eric. good job…….. next……….
Thanks for the follow up on it. The engine in the 3500's and up are rated different and usually are lower in horsepower than the same in a 2500. Since they do not know what the upfitter will cobble on it EPA says it has to be derated. I do not pretend to know about exactly how but I know they do it.
Please more diesel trucks
