    Man those tranny lines look awesome,I'm doing that to my car soon,I'm pulling the engine out and putting a new bad boy in it and I'm gonna replace my lines while I'm there, my stabilizer arm broke a mount years ago and it started rubbing against one of the lines unbeknownst to me and rubbed a hole in it so i had to splice it with a hose but while the engine is out I'm putting new lines in.

    Honestly, it's too easy to remove the intake at this point, with the injector harness and emissions vent tube threaded out. To me it's actually easier to thread out the vent tube when you remove the intake with the engine still installed. Plus I tend to break the plastic intake boobies too.

    Last engine I pulled I removed the front grill and radiator pulled Trans with engine it was a lot easier to separate and install on the ground

    if you ever go to the trouble to remove intake and use the holley square bore engine plate bolted to valley make the back of the engine easy to get to like oil sending unit ,see if wires are pinched and top bolts can be installed from the top much easier and don't have to jack up the cherry picker near as high which is safer

    I'd definitely vote for removing the radiator. Once drained and with hoses removed shouldn't be too hard and gives you a lot more room for maneuvering. …and you could probably set a stool in there to set on while disconnecting and connecting wires and stuff. Or stand on the frame, etc.

    Far, far more hassle than replacing the inline Atlas 4.2 in my Trailblazer. No way a truck bay should be that tight. It was so much better back in the 50s-70s when a small block came out & back in so easy you could do it alone.

    Don't you love how there is one bolt hole on the bell housing passenger side second one from the top that does not take a bolt I guess it's so that tranny could bolt to the older motors I remember the first time doing one I actually pulled it back apart to find out there was no hole on the engine block pretty annoying

    Eric : oh yeah, one more. Type in "rebuilt GM 5.3 engines" in google and 10,000 people surface that say they have great engines. Do yo uhave a fav source for GM rebuilts? Some actually upgrade the oil pump , others cam's etc. I hate buying motors from people i know nothing about.

    Cardboard is the best thing for working on the ground. Learned this long ago working on cars outside in Wisconsin winters. Corrugated cardboard is a good thermal insulator, keeps bits of gravel out of your back, and doesn’t take up height like a creeper does.

    These days I seek out TV boxes. They’re large and often glossy which makes sliding around on your back and cleaning up liquids very easy.

    Had to change my transmission lines on my dodge truck what a pain in the bleep did not have a lift so that made it more difficult finally got it but old now and up and down for maneuvers were difficult but got it in the end just pipe and compression fittings!!!!

    A sliver of advice to anyone who cant get the tranny lined up because bolts wont line up. Hook your chain to the front and back of the head that you need to swing to line up , with help jack both engine and tranny until you get close then with a small c clamp draw engine and tranny together one side at a time until the gap is minimal as far as you can reach mostly in the dowel pin area , watch er come together ….bolt er up after worked 4 me 👍

    great series of videos SMA
    for anyone doing this job on a Chevy – i have two things i would suggest, a manual cable winch on the end of the crane so when you lower or raise the engine does not also go in or out, and a hoist load centering device to allow you to tip the engine when you want without having to move the chain.
    The assistant was a goof idea also, pretty hard to do alone.
