Can anyone help me? I have a 2008 Chevy cobalt ls 2.2l with the fluid filter located inside the fuel tank and I can not find any info about the fluid filter type, replacing it or how to I go about removing it from the fuel tank to install it outside the fuel tank like all other cars. It's driving me nuts.
If you don’t have all those tools is there is something wrong with just using a stainless steel clamp
i replaced the fuel line on my 2010 hhr but not the vapor line….i smell gas but no leaks anywhere….any idea brother ?

So if I have some tight 90° angles, what’s the best way to bend the nylon line without creasing it?
Eric instead of using the Quick Connect why not just use a regular hose clamp and tight down the work would have been done in many years ago why we use quick connects now instead of just a hose clamp we did in Forever years ago never was a problem
That doorman tool is the same thing as a wood clamp tool you can pick them up in all different sizes at lowes or Home Depot

Chris, i have a Chinese knock off of that flare tool, it says to just unscrew the hydraulic out of the vise, feels like its damaging but I'm thinking prying with a screwdriver is not to good, curious what the manual to your tool says…
Looks like I'm about five years too late, but your Dorman "gun" appears to be an Irwin Quick Grip clamp. Everyone and their brother is making this style ratcheting bar clamp now. Even the Freight.
Anyway, this beats the snot out of my fix on a Vue…which was to cut the fuel line and slip hose over it with fuel injection clamps…..
dude its not nylon all the way up because steel is much safer from being torn open from road debris or an accident. nylon would break far more often, and would be more dangerous if it were standard for millions of vehicles.

Usual excellent tutorial video. Tip on steel fuel lines (and brake lines) for those who don't mind getting dirty…. liberally coat them and the whole underside of the car with Fluid Film or equivalent. First clean off heavy scale with a needle scaler then spray a hot mix of say 1 part FF with 2 parts WD40. The WD40 eventually evaporates but for application, it thins the spray and helps penetration and flow. Repeat every couple of years. Disgusting job but stops all corrosion. Got an '88 Grand Marquis and '98 Exploder with original lines and driven in the rust belt. One downside of nylon lines is the mice can nibble them…not on straight runs as here but on the tank tops where they nest. Did it on my 2006 Subaru. Bugger to repair.

Hi Eric would one of those squeeze type glue clamp work to replace your nylon tool might be able use just the metal part from the glue clamp just a thought

I've used weedeater strings to put inside brake and gas lines to bend them without crimping.
Only trouble with nylon fuel line is the scroates round here snip them & steal your fuel.
I want one of those line repair tools

hi Eric, i know this is an old video, but did you ever find a new "gun" for your dorman fuel line tool? looks like a "quick grip clamp" to me.
Damn. 40 min to repair a fuel line.. most garages where I live want to replace fuel lines at a cost of $500 including labor. I have a fuel line leak on the main fuel line. One garage wanted to charge me $900 just got the fuel line assembly.. like wtf??
One more foot towards engine there was another quick connect. Remove from there and no need to flare on vehicle. Been using that flare tool for decades and it's not cumbersome. Too many mechanics try tapping into old line instead of changing entire line. Easier, quicker, and a better fix to change the whole line.

Know this is an oldie EO, but the company that made the orange caulk gun style one was fmsi and they may still make it? Not sure.
It's great to watch somebody that knows what they're doing and takes the time to film that so guys like me can learn from it I love doing mechanical work on a body man I was always going to be a mechanic but everybody in my family is in the body shop business so anyways what was the spray that you were spraying on that line it was more than just grease spray wasn't it and thanks again great videos!!

boy i wish i had those tools i had an old corolla that had all the lines underneath rusted away bending steel lines to put in those brackets was a nightmare
I use brass compression fittings with inserts on the plastic ID. The crappy disconnects are mainly a production labor shortcut, and the Dorman stuff is so substandard to be dangerous. Brass compression on the nylon intank fuel pump nipples also, the plastic line is great.

thanks much!!! 2002 chevy avalanche got a fuel line leak just yesterday and in a dilemma whether to use metal hose or nylon hose. Please explained further like (press the white connector flange down to dis-connect… something like that; I'm spraying it with what-u-call-it-chemical-thing-rust-proofing; and etc….). i'm buying a nylon hose and those black/white connector fittings.
I also want to thank "mrexecutive1" 4d coffee cup full of close to boiling water tip. lots to learn from reading the comments as well. thanks for all the helpful info comments too.
