My first thought was, every car sold with bolted on wheels should come with a stud extender tool. Imagine trying to change a tire by the side of the road in a suit, in the rain. Then it dawned on me, it a Mercedes. The owner would just call AAA. LOL

I had my friend bring me his Subaru at 15000 miles they have a 30$ oil change special that’s I can’t compete with so he goes there for that…said they needed brakes brought to me was at 90% not overheated or warped lol I said yah 20$ it’s fixed see ya next oil change lol

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D M says:

LMAO a Mercedes with mismatched tires. They should be driving a Kia.

really bugs me how americans/canadian's say "ahhdie"….

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Cory says:

It always blows my mind how people spend HUGE money on a car or truck, and then pussy out on a light bulb that needs replaced or some brake pads etc.. unbelievable

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bruce McGee says:

The dealership is the last place I will take my Mercedes.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ray Pellerin says:

I agree with the customer other than he or she owns a BMW. I change the pads of my GMC 3500 when they are metal on metal. Cost me about $30 busks and 45 min in the driveway. I did change the rotors and pads about 8 years ago. Still going strong.

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bob Hudson says:

Go to any brake manufacturer's website. They will advise that minimum brake pad thickness is 2mm. Below that they will not guarantee that the brake pads will cope with heat generated from regular maximum braking. New brake pads for this vehicle are probably 10mm thick. If pads are down to 6mm that means they are half way through their life – 10mm minus 2mm minimum = 8mm of useful life – they have only worn 4mm. See how many miles (kms) they have done so far and inspect them at the next service and see how much is left. If the car is not driven hard it will probably be two services time before the pads need replacing. Tell customer the same. Another factor not often mentioned is that when a vehicle is serviced, the shop doing that, or in this case me as a qualified independent mechanic, is saying that the car will run correctly until the next service. If the pads are not thick enough to make it to the next service, then that is what you have to state to the customer, and if they decline to have the brakes attended to, you include that information in the invoice and have the customer sign your copy of the invoice saying they acknowledge they have been told that, understand what it means and take liability if anything occurs as a result of not having parts replaced or repaired. It's called protecting your tail, because there are those out there who will try to blame you for their mistakes or so called "I did not understand what you were saying" etc. Retired mechanic from Land Down Under.

That "trick" with lifting the wheel by standing on one side and lifting the other was something that earned me a bunch of tips while I was working at a tyre workshop. The Italians loved it ^_^

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian Mashin says:

Lol fool owner bringing a nice mercedes to an quick lube place. Mercedes goes to the dealership or i would bring it directly to ray. A fool only brings a mercedes to a quick lube or a quick tire shop.. but folks will just to say they "own a mercedes" LOL fools fools fools. If you aint got the money and cant pay for the mercedes you dont own it

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars GhostWalker says:

I knew the customer would decline the second I saw the Hankook tires

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Star Falx says:

honest repairman, didn't change/waste good brakes

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Wes Gregg says:

Drilled – and slotted – rotors can be machined! You just cannot "ape" the job. Make sure the tool tips are sharp and aligned with each other. Use the slowest feed rate and take the smallest cut. Several fine passes. Very lightly use 240-grit emery paper to smooth out the fine grooves on the rotor surface. Hose it down with that aerosol brake cleaner you love (or use acetone). Done.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Angelo DeLorio says:

Um been using those stud tools since 2011. Nothing new. ALSO been torque wrench wheels for 40 years JUST like you. So you are the only person ever seen to do it right ! Good job !

This tool is in every Trunk of a Mercedes Benz 😉

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Carter says:

You can't turn drilled rotors? That's bull shit and so far I have yet to see you use a micrometer on any brake component mr it's got a lip.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dennis Ko says:

Sooner or later it's going to come all out to where everything we own will be electric no more gasoline cars and trucks then there will only be tires and brakes to fix

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars SA Sampson says:

Those wheel pins have come with the spare kit of every AUDI I've had in the last 30+ years….

Like having bolts instead of nuts – easy to replace if you accidentally over-torque (digital wrench issue once for me)

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars dguarino1974 says:

Ya know what’s really cool …. When your so careful removing the wheels only to set it on the floor and have it bounce several times on the ground ! That’s what i call a fail !!!

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars john liford says:

What is that tool you used to take off the wheels, the threaded stud thing you said came from a guy at a Benz dealership.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars A Different Angle says:

When you get your service at the dealership at Mercedes their policy is to return the vehicle to as close to new as possible.
So they will have a massive list of things that their system says to replace that they won't even tell the customer about because it's unnecessary, but once your car gets to ten years old or over about 100k, the service cost at the dealership will be about 4x higher than other services if you comply with everything they want to replace, and then at some point probably around 200k kilometres there will be something like a transmissiom fault which will put you back the cost of the car.

For the safety and driver control that most Mercedes models have, I think it's worth it.

I have an old b200 that needs a transmission fix, which will be more than the cars worth, but considering you can't replace the car with anything similar, and the repair solves the underlying issue, it's actually worth the fix.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Suire says:

Why is the perf pattern on the front brakes forward on the passenger side and rear on the driver side?

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John says:

I work at a Mercedes dealer. We use a brake measuring tool and when they are in the yellow, we recommend brakes. Of course it’s the advisors job to make note of the difference between a recommendation and a necessary repair. I don’t press a brake sell unless it’s in the red.

As far as the rear brakes go, they looked like they were wearing unevenly. That’s more than likely the case why they recommended the rear brakes. Those rear brakes are notorious for wearing unevenly. On some models, there’s even a bulletin for it. They should’ve tried to sell those tires more than the brakes though.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ryne Sherman says:

The phone didn't ring once in this video. Thats disappointing.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars pork chop says:

Brakes looked pretty decent for another 10 to 15k.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Google says:

My take away from this video is that the Mercedes dealership lied to their customer about the rear brakes. And your analysis was the fronts are still usable. So your last comment about having said (almost) the same the as the dealership puzzles me

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Butscho says:

I’ve had this car for 4 years
The system sends you a massage wenn your pads are worn
    Mercedes USA good job 😂
    Greetings from Germany

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ivan Rivera says:

This guy really doesn’t know how to measure brake pads. There is a tool for that so you don’t go saying it’s 6mm and really is 3mm. That’s just guessing.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tony W says:

All you scammer shops out there gonna run into a psycho one day that’s going to make the 5 o’clock news.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robin Sattahip says:

Do you have any idea how much of a pain in the rear those lug bolts are when changing a flat on the side of the road? Trying to hold the tire and wheel in place to get the first bolt started in is ridiculous. To hell with German engineering.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dimitri G says:

    Wheel stud tools…

… the back of an old Benz or VW at your junk yard. Most German cars have them in the little tool kit thingy in the spare tire area.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bobby U says:

I have those guide bolts from snapon ten years ago

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John C says:

usually if there are drill rotors on the front of a merc there is usually drilled ones on the back as well which tells me these rotors are after market not put on by mercedes

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ExtremeRecluse says:

I was really getting worried that the side of the car would get ripped off when loweringbit

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Carl Zeiss says:

For reasons I’m sure that you will understand, it is always necessary to double click the torque wrench when the correct torque is required.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stephen Gomez says:

They probably just checked the computer and tells them how my Worn the brake pads are.
