I'm not a mechanic, but I can really relate to the first start. It's the exact same thing I get for the first power-on after building a computer (that's what I do).
was glad to see you be generous with the sili-con-carne.. The bigger the gob, the better the job, AMIRITE?
Iโm just as tired as Ray is. I can feel his exhaustion. Been there. Done that. Canโt say I liked it.
Thanks for all the play by play on this and I do admire your skills and the care with which you do your job. I know criticism is the last thing you want to hear after three days on this job. However, I need to point out that was way too much dielectric grease on those coil packs. The dielectric grease, which is an insulator, should make a seal between the boot and the ceramic of the plug.
With that much on the coil packs you risk having some on the connection between the coil pack and the plug top which could lead to misfires and/or shorten the coil pack life due to the increased resistance. It's best to apply a small amount to the inside of the boot so it will help seal the ceramic of the plug with the boot but not make contact with the top of the plug when inserting the coil pack.
this is total bs napa will not do this kind of work
co-workers prolly calling to get the DODODODODOOOO ๐
This is the same type of motor kinda we had in our hughschool shop donated from Ford. I've rebuilt these motors so many times i can't count. I could probably still do it blindfolded even though it was in the early 2000's
Looks like Ray missed adding silicone at the joints for the passenger side valve cover.
Edit, he just caught the error, glad to see.
man I woulda swapped out that water pump to while things were easily accessible if I were the customer
The amount of money you guys spend on tools
You've also passed the threshold of not being able to English as well.
Unless they are held in with a lower fastening, I would have removed the cover bolts completely as they tend to get caught on stuff and increase the chances of dislodging the gasket.
Nice job Ray. Tuff job on that dang 5.4 3v.
Guide and tensioner failure. Does Ford still try to sell these engines?
That is one thing that I hate when I'm working on a car is when the phone is ringing
These 5.4 Liter, 3 valve engines look Overly Complicated, sad part I have this same engine in my 2008 Ford 4×4 truck…
I have a 2002 seabring convertible I'm going to do a timing chain water pump it needs a new timing cover.did you do any videos on this.
Me and Pablo's did a Cadillac v 6 didn't need the valve train work he didn't buy intake air handler gaskets.and it ran crappy but the timing chain was done right the first time it had a air leak a new gasket fixed it.we took the radiator out to make it easer.being a car made it easer.and the engine crossmember came out on top.
I was thinking it a few moments before you said it – might have been easier to remove the motor to work on it
What told happen if "someone " changed the phone ringtone? How about "I FEEL GOOD!"?
Re: tightening valve covers, wouldn't hurt to check if the bolts are loose, tho.
That looks like a back ache.
I have the ability to tune out sounds like the phone, what I can't tune out after 46 yrs of trying is the sound of metal on metal….
Sealant is needed at the PARTING LINE between components.
Forgetting things is why checklists are important.
I like that most manufacturers have gone to the rubber valve cover gaskets with a groove in the valve cover in place of the cork gaskets they used way back then.
Doo dee doo = money!
How may hours on this furd?
i would locate that phone ringer and terminate it with a flame thrower. I would never subject my employees to that audio torture day after day. Get portable phones for the sales staff to carry if they are out of the business office. Good grief!
You have the mire of misery still below??
Ray I had a friend who hated Wheel of Fortune. He called it Wheel of Torure! Sounds a bit like you and the phone. Phone of Torture?
right. i had a golf mk3 and the cover bolts did not bottom out how ever the bolts do snap. my luck was that the bolt hole ran all the way trough so we could get the bolt out trough the bottom of the cam shaft clamp.
Love the way you keep your sense of humor in an otherwise tough situation.
So, this youtuber dosen't watch other youtubers or the internet that knows when these Ford p.o.s.'s crap out they can't be fixed and need new engines???
Took me 3 days to watch this episode, but I dont get the title? Where is the first start?
Maybe I missed something, but what was the noise that the engine made when you first started it. Is there another video coming with the job finished?
Cool ! A Milwaukee Hammer ๐จ
Watched you tap that cover plate back with it โบ๏ธ
Hey Ray, this isn't auto related but look up "The Devil's Daughters". Just for you.
Last time I dropped a deep well socket over a FORD engine…i found it in cylinder #7 while barring over the engine VERY CAREFULLY!
If you weld a nut on the back of your valve tensioner tool, you could use a power driver to speed up the process?
Just watching you is making my back ache in sympathy๐ฌ๐ฌ
A new water pump should have been installed while you had more space..
for the boomers this is why manual has no valve time setting instruction nowadays, it's complexity is comparable to a lunar module. Even professionals sweat to do that.
Yeah, it's pretty obvious that these engines are junk. No way should an engine need this kind of work prior to 250k miles. Another better idea from Ford. I bought my last one in 2008! And it will be my last one!
About a bolt or something, and you say you love your job, good luck
If you're not paying the light bill for that place get a light that is not battery powered and then you can work all day and all night bro and have nightmares
Ray, you should ask Watch Wes Work where he got that PRO-electric grease he uses. ๐
Raaaaaaaay….. did you forget the crankshaft reluctor wheel? – edit I rewound the video and saw it installed. Had me going there for a minute.
I've had one of those 3/8 ratchet xtension thingys
in my Amazon wish list for some time, just might get it now.
Kudos Ray on this job. This was NOT an "intermediate" mechanic job. Very impressive keep up the good work!
