Using 1/4" drive might have been easier to work with on those coils.

The Engine/Powertrain computer should be mounted in a nice comfortable air-conditioned vehicle passenger/driver cabin. It might just last a lot longer, and dissipate heat more efficiently, and not fry itself to death, in the hot sauna of the engine bay compartment. Not a very bright idea for it to have been wired, and placed there!!!! …..and that goes for just about every new vehicle in the world, wired up like this Benz.
I took a look at my baby sister’s engine bay of her new BMW. I was horrified by the amount of plastic used on the engine itself, and electronic modules mounted in there. That thing was super hot, as it had just been turned off, and driven in the hot South Texas summer heat. I told her to get rid of that damn car ASAP, or to keep it for two more years, then trade it in for a Honda or a Toyota.
Would the sludge on the plugs not burn off eventually?

Dayum… Spark Plugs are a regular service item, having to disassemble the fecking electrics and brackets just to get to the plugs is the worst possible way for a German car to force you to do it! I've done many spark plug swaps in my time and none of them were that complicated!
I changed the plugs for a friend and I do not know how her car was even running.
A previous "Friend" had caked the inside of the plugs with grease from the side of the spark plug wells and it had baked itself into a solid mass. It was a 1974 Laguna with a 350. I think these engines were just so inefficient that you didn't notice a misfire or two. I was also standard procedure for me to wash an engine at a car wash before I did plugs.
None of these fancy engine covers… just a protective layer of grease!

First time comment. LOVE your videos. I used to love working on my vehicles but lately I'm over it. Having said that I jut changed the air struts in my L322 Range Rover today. MY GOD, what a pain. All the videos on youtube show people doing it in their driveway in under an hour. Yeah right. I of course get the one where the lower shock bolds are frozen (rust?) to the strut. Hammer. Nope. Sledge. NOPE. Bought an air hammer to help and I STILL had to break out the blow torch to heat them up to break the seal. Five hours later and all good. Cost was reasonable. $850 for good aftermarket new struts vs my mechanic that quoted me $3500 to do the job. Sometimes, just sometimes, its worth the effort. Your videos help me think of innovative solutions to my problems. Thank you for everything you do.
My dad use to be a military mechanic and he had someone where they had burned the end right off the spark plugs
Should of did a wet &dry compression test it looks like the eng hase a oil problem with eather valves gides or bad oil rings . I think if that put to much oil in eng all the plugs whoud be wet with oil but that's not the case I've been on that rd before win I was working on engs

Wow you get a lot of comments. It would be very hard to keep up with all of them. It is nice to see so many people getting something out of your effort. Congratulations on 300,000+ subscribers. It proves your doing the right thing providing a great service. I strive for the same customer service in my industry I feel like I should start doing similar videos educating people on proper workmanship while creating awesome content.
I feel like the one thing that mechanics should do more once finished with a job is to take the car for like a 50 mile final test drive. I feel like in some vehicles the car needs to have a good drive to see if everything is complete. I see you are driving a decent amount but I feel and this is just my uneducated opinion that a city drive and a highway drive should be done with 10+ miles both with city driving and same amount of miles on the highway. I did not see you drain any oil from this vehicle. I am not sure if you did or not but if not I think the same problem will happen again with more miles driven along with a full range of engine rpm might make the problem appear again. Without a long test drive you will be able to replicate the issue. With a short or even medium test drive sometimes you will not be able to replicate the problem.
I just say this because I had a transmission replaced and they said they did several test drives. I found out they only did a few laps around their building as test drives and did not replace a sensor issue that was very important and an issue that you would find if the vehicle was driven on the highway a few miles. I am not saying you did anything wrong I love your videos and have watched many of them. I will end up watching them all at one point as I tend to binge watch like 10-15 at a time. I do want to say you do amazing work and it does give me confidence back with mechanics. I have had bad experiences in the past and almost refuse to allow anyone to work on my vehicle because of the past bad experiences with strait up bad or untruthful mechanics either doing a bad job or lying about something completely. In the case of my Ford Econoline 350's transmission rebuild just unfinished repair due to not doing a proper test drive. If they had driven the vehicle on the highway they would have found and replaced a simple sensor finishing the job to absolute completion. The transmission shop did not do a bad job they just missed a simple last finishing touch really. So I would like to say keep up the amazing work.
All I am saying with my opinion I would like more of a test drive to be required from all jobs so if something is needed you can find it possibly from a longer final test drive to make 100% sure there are no issues. I appreciate your honest work and would not only let you but would be honored to have you work on any of my vehicles due to your dedication to honest automobile repair. Thank you very much for years of consistent customer service as a damn good what I would call a master mechanic.

Wow! And I thought my Harley Electro Glide was a little difficult to work on. Geez! All that just to change the spark plugs. My opinion mirrors that of the Rainman! Never ever will I be the owner of a European automobile! I don't even like these global chassis things that Ford, GM, and Ram have come out with.
I presume there wouldnt be residue oil remaining in the EGR or whatever system dumped oil into that bank ? once oil level was set correctly

People own a MB but so cheap they go to a Quick Lube!!! Maybe they saved 10 bucks on an oil change but WASTED hundreds to fix their screw-up. Don't those shops have a fill quantity listed by vehicle?

You should have told him he was right…the proper term would be "More Gooder". And when you are working on any German made product that requires a specific torque value…you must use the proper torque spec of "goot- n- tight " as not to offend any German engineers !

You need a torque wrench that actually says "click" instead of beeping at you.
When you said, I treat them like their were mine, that said to me that you take pride in your work. That means everything to me.
I guess Fritz wanted to save some money and go to a Jiffy lube instead of a Mercedes shop for a oil change. Probably still saved money in the long running having Ray replace the plugs LOL
I would be suing that shop for a new engine and cat, both of which surely took damage from negligence.
I was in process of buying a New Truck a few years ago, they also sold New Land Rovers, i watched the wrecker as they brought in a New Rover that just had its 1st oil change done at a Jiffy Lube place–the owner had just got oil changed and headed down interstate after a few minutes the oil light came on and then engine started knocking, the young man at Jiffy Lube had left to old rubber gasket stuck to engine and screwed in new oil filter-rubber to rubber which will not make a good seal. It took about 20 miles of driving but I watched them drop the oil pan and it was full of metal bits. The Jiffy Lube place had to buy this lady a New Engine for her New Land Rover–probably not cheap….
Good video. Some elect to remove the intake because that's one way of getting a little more room than removing the bracket. Be sure to replace the 6 green o-rings in that case. Also, there is a specific plier to remove and replace the unique type of clamp at the boot near the intake temp sensor. Well worth it. And this is one time to use a torque wrench and OEM or OE Plugs. The are indexed. Yes.

Runaway from digital torque wrench. I have a torque wrench for every different scale and size. When I was working on my expedition and I changed the CV axles on the front it required 225-ft lb. I thought for sure that my big half inch went up that high I was mistaken. So this was a chance to buy more tools. They had a gearwrench digital at a pretty good price so I ordered it two days later it came. Since my expedition was still in pieces I ran out to play with my new toy. I guess think when you are so used of something it's difficult to get used to something new. It didn't give you that little click feeling they'll let you know you're there and in my driveway it was hard to hear the sound with all the neighbors and kids and everything else out there.
I was going to send it back but I am looking to start getting into diesel pickup trucks. I know that those heads take a lot of torque to. And I figured that was the first time I needed a bigger torque wrench so if I only use it once in awhile I figured it would not be so bad. I enjoyed buying tools anyhow.
I always make sure to give you a big like and of course just describe button has been pushed a long time now.

You do a great job and keep up the great work/videos. But after watching this one I came anyway with why I truly love and "HATE" new cars. What you went through to basically do a sparkplug change is crazy. I know new vehicles are better for environment but what they have done to make it so difficult to work on cars nowadays sucks!! Example, have a new 2016 ford fusion and to change a parking/turn signal/headlight bulb, you have to remove the whole darn front bumper section!! Why I love older cars and working on them more than the new ones. Again, keep up the great work and videos, will be watching.
