Those part places sell crappy knockoff belts…I had one drive me crazy…it would squawk on and off…Gates belt…I think…some people say use Gator belt… No pun intended

I had the opposite issue with a Rigid Drill press. To adjust the speed there are 2 v belts that you move to different positions on two sets of pulleys. To do so you first need to loosen the belts which after much consternation I realized could not be done because the OEM pulleys had been pried onto the pulleys at zero adjustment. I ordered the next size larger pulleys (it turned out one was enough) and the tensioner actually has some play to allow you to move the belts without having to forcibly roll the belt off the pullies.
Any more of that Matrix simulation discussion and my head would have exploded.

Rays a Lemurian just like me .IMO Highly visual but a bit messy. are Lemurians or Palaydians( sorry I forget which one wasnt listening )So the non earth entities told me Here to entertain the sheep and inlighten them. That happens in the automotive world: you get a belt that is supposed to be right for the application and you just need someone with enough knowledge to say try the next size down v-belt and that worked out.
That and Hyundai's are weird; even the Hyundai parts guy gave you the wrong belt!

Previous "mechanics" probably just took the number off the wrong belt and replaced it.
Who thinks the other shop sold her a belt and a power steering pump just to jack up the bill.

I know what's wrong with it! It's a Hyundai…. It was broken before 100,000 miles. I've driven my Toyotas to 300,000 without ever fixing anything. Oil only

It appears it’s the wrong pulley on the pump cause that should take a serpentine belt

I heard a story once that everyone lives in a simulation here. till your capable of taking care of yourself. No matter how long it takes. Or lifetime's
On Hyundais, 9 times out of 10 a squealing power steering belt is in fact the alternator belt loose and the water pump doesn't have the grip to transfer the motion to the power steering pump. The load of the power steering especially on cold start up is too much for the alternator belt to drive.
Use soap.. Done
never trust parts stores for the right part, always compare new and old to confirm fit.

As for this, of course it's unacceptable that a tech would let this go when the belt has obviously poor tension, but it's really weird that the OEM belt size simply does not fit. I've never encountered that on any modern vehicle.
I'm sure that after following all the correct steps, a flat rate tech would be pretty frustrated with the results, and not eager to figure out a modification when the clock is ticking.
Luckily for the customer you had the patience to figure out a modification that solved the problem.
Chalk this up to shitty build quality I guess.

Nice job. I don’t think I would even call the last 4 guys shade tree mechanics by not figuring out that problem. Where did you get your ratcheting box-end “crows foot” set?
