That is absolutely awesome that they failed to see that. It had to have steamed up the front of the windshield.
Engine coolant was low, engine overheats and steam weakens top tank thus the blowout.
Yeah the owner of this pile has no idea how engines work.
As my wife would say to me…."By the way, there is a red light on the dash for a few days now, but the car runs fine." And I casually reply…."Not for long honey."
So customer what happened? The whole story please.
i fixed them for yrs never saw that either lmao
cooling systems are an overrated option, who needs the added weight 😀
air cooled!
Those cars were amazing once upon a time.
I had one do that to me once; I drove it a short distance (maybe 5 minutes, can't remember how long since it had been driven prior), parked it & started walking away when BOOM! At the time, I wasn't even sure it was my car but, I went back & checked &, sure enough, coolant puddle on the ground & gaping hole in the top tank… followed by a VERY interesting drive home…
We had the plastic left side of the radiator explode on our 2005 Yukon XL Denali (6.0 liter) while Mrs. Cuss was towing the horse. Got AAA to tow it back, I replaced the radiator, no damage. A year later, one of the plastic "quick-connect" fittings on the firewall exploded on the same stretch of road (60 miles from hole), but I was able to bypass the heater core to drive it home.
My thoughts: determine if there is a head gasket leak, and if so if the head/block are warped- thus avoiding possibly putting a new nator on a ruined engine/car heading for scrap yard.
Can’t kill a Honda 😂❤️
Total loss evaporative cooling mod?
Could the escaping coolant, from the cracked radiator, have dropped on alternator and damaged it?
It is really unreal how some please just drive their car and just put gas in it. And driving while yapping on cell phone. Totally unaware what’s around them or what’s happening to their car
I used to want one of those so bad. They're good well made cars so are the Lexus LS.
Just can't imagine how they drove and didn't know that happened.
Would you tell us how much cooling fluid you pulled out of the system when (if) you replaced the radiator? The supply for the radiator is right there at the break so I would assume they lost fluid instantly till the water pump was to a trickle. Lastly, radiators keep fluid (even water) from boiling till a lot higher temp because they are notmally pressurized. It would be interesting to refill the radiator and film what happens and how it does for cooling. Don't though because the customer could say other damages were because of you!
Acura Legends are fantastic cars for their time. I drove one 270,000 miles and sold it still running strong.
What a shame. Total retardation to drive around with no coolant. What were they thinking (or not thinking)?
The radiator converted itself to air cooled
i know why the "new" alternator went bad, the radiator blew up, guts were spilled and the coolant went inside the alternator making it short and stop working
Nahhh that radiator is just venting lol
Ya could be a new style air cooled motor. The things I see you deal with blows my mind how ignorant can someone be, really
That era of legends are almost Bulleit proof. Would love to hear the follow up on it.
I suggest you check the dip stick
For coolants before you replace the
Radiator
Time for a new car
Every see the goat meme, where it yells? Well, need to insert that sound here. Ahhhhaaahhh.
Back in the '80's a friend bought a Renault Alliance. When the car about 2 years old the radiator split open cracking the entire right side tank and dumping all the antifreeze on the freeway while he was going 65 MPH!
It just amazes me how people cannot take care of their own vehicles
cars aren't FOREVER! Unless that's your intention. Remember your monthly car loan amount? Figure on spending that once a year for maintenance and repair (on average.)
I've seen it up here 3 times in Massachusetts.. hope they not warp heads
That car is a survivor. Chances are it survives this too.
I just think its a shame the way most steering wheel holders treat actual quality vehicles.
That's obviously the secondary pressure release system when you have a bad radiator cap.
JB Weld has a repair kit.
IT'S A TRAP!!!!
I wouldn't fix a thing on this car unless they fix the radiator. If they deny it tell them good by. Otherwise they drive out, blow the engine and blame the shop
If the car has been run sans cooling then won't the head be warped? If so the alternator is the least of his problems. Tow it to the junk yard quick. Either that or a 4 part rebuild?
Wtf lol rads toast
I seen the same thing on a 1979,it was the thermostat.
Someone trying to trick you? I expect a engine would seize/break/making noises in less than 5 minutes without coolant?
The mere fact all those leaves are around the lower windscreen area means that the hood is rarely opened.
Check the head gaskets it's not worth moving on if they don't want to fix that
OMG!
Seen blow outs like that when the cooling fans stop working and when the water pump lost its impeller vanes. …. It will be interesting to see what the root cause is.
Wes the radiator cap no good it should have released the pressure it may have a blown head gasket or a cracked this car is junk
WOW i never seen that type of a blow out b4 DANG :O
I had just such an episode with my GM radiator while towing a heavy load up a steep incline. The thermostat took it in mind it didn't want to do anymore opening and closing that day thank you very much and jammed closed.
The road had no shoulder or parking lane so I couldn't stop and let things cool down and limp home.
I had just entered a tunnel when it went off. The entire contents of the cooling system vaporized in an instant. There was no big cloud of steam, just a giant BANG and a shudder through the car.
The exit end of the tunnel had the turn out and park spot I needed.
Why the radiator cap didn't blow off the pressure build up I have no idea.
