I have the same truck but in red 99 000 miles
When you describe torque setting 11 ft lb first-round and 14 ft-lb second-round then proceeded to bring it to 24 ft lb in the second round I think it's a brain fart not a mistake correct , I've never heard of 3 ft lb at a time
Good work. I really don't like how Ford designs some things. Like how that rack and pinion interferes with the smooth installation of the sub oil pan, all of the specialty bolts, etc.
Ray on your story about working at McDonald's happens all the time.
What would the cost of a repair like this run?
Was that water dripping at the very end?
Brake cleaner contains toluene which is an intoxicant and in high enough doses a hallucinogenic and causes brain damage. I wonder sometimes if Ray is an inadvertent huffer.
Beethoven was an epic choice man. Probably your best video yet.
I don't normally comment on videos but the story about working at MacDonalds cracked me up (classic). Love your videos educational and entertaining keep it up.
First he said 11 and 14 then when he went to do the second pass he said 24
Im glad you worked on this motor…. I own one…. I now know what it looks like inside….. the 4.0 is a great little engine…. the only errors I hear coming from them is manifold leaks from plastic intakes… Doc
Ray that music is soooo bad. Lol
Love watching your videos, thank you
Good video. I especially liked the sped up portions with the music. I wish my jobs would go into ludicrous speed.
I hope thats water dripping down from the front of the engine Ray, From 38.44 to 39.35, it could be condeser drainage but it's there, Good vid all the same
Beethoven Fur Elese, Beethoven 5th, Moonlight sonata. Fantastic mechanic with great taste in music. Thank You Ray.
Will need done it because we ate was my emoti even England I couldn't get the dashboard lights out any other way boy what a job
My brothers just done my real speed sensor on my care sa rento where are you when I need it 5 hours later cause you have to take out half the interior
1st job – sinking fence posts and stretching woven wire fencing via 2 2x4s bolted together and hooked to an Oliver tractor. All for $0.75 per hour. The total princely sum of $14.75.
The engineer/s who designed that engine definitely never heard of the K.I.S.S Principle.
informative …gets the job done the proper way ….and entertaining at the same time…..its the way Ray works …..need more of him
WELL DONE AGAIN…
The 4.0 ford is indestructible.
Never knew Explorers came in pickup flavors!
Nice job. Loved the musical interludes 😁
Good job brother but you did miss a step there are threaded inserts in the upper pan that push on the main cap bolts the center bolts go through them they are big Allen's your supposed to back them down install the pan with the outer bolts then run the inserts till they touch the main cap bolts then put your center bolts in just thought i'd let you know for next time love your vids keep up the good work 👍
Didn't see you put the hidden t-30 bolt back in – I assume you did.
I wish I had recorded my repairs for years it would've saved me logging them down in diaries to cover my butt from the ever since ya people.
I had several composition note books with dates, notes and comments like repairs denied, or low pedal, or multiple dash lights on etc
You know I normally like ford.. maybe… But what in the hell are they thinking making something like this??! That is ridiculous.
I agree with David L. Don’t worry about catching a falling item, you’re likely to knock it out of sight. Way better the watch where it falls and make sure you do before it stops moving as then it’s difficult to see.
Ray u r the f'n gd man. And I don't like using gd at all saying it writing it ever. But man u killed that truck and video in a good way. And yes you were right that thing was Pristine. Some customer body out there loves their damn Henry Ford's. Great vid man. Keep em coming. How long did that total job take you?
My first on paper job was McDonald's was there from age 14-16
If you would have put the rubber gasket on the back of Block than the pan up on it. ( :
Back in the shop in a year's time for a new front cross-member… …You cleaned all the oil off and it rusted away?
Why can I imagine Ray at home, sink full of dirty dishes. He starts spraying them down with brake clean and exclaims "Nice and Shiny!"
I dread the day I have to get this done to my 03' sport trac that is 4×4. I would do it myself but I don't work on cars for that reason, I would rather rebuild that tracks on a 200T crane.
What was dripping down the front crossmember at the end ?
CROSS-THREAD = Natures lock-tight !
Is it hard to find good and honest mechanics like Ray?
Bet they changed out the timing chain and guides. Those model yr 4.0's have issues with cheap guides straight from the factory..🤦♂️ They break and crumble apart and end up in the lower oil pan and the pan skirt. Most of the time they clog up the pick up tube for the pump and puke the motor. The 4.0 sohc is a great motor once u change the guides over to the upgraded ones. And properly maintain them. They are very intolerant of not changing the oil as scheduled or using conventional oil.
How does he get it back in there without budging the gaskets? Hes got skills for sure. Wish there were more guys out there that cared like he does.
Excellent vid!
Appreciate your explanation of where and why sealant is used minimally on certain transitions.
Once upon a time I used a torx wrench. But learned to use the correct length spanner /socket bar and finger strength ‘touch from my father who was a fitter. Adjusting according to bolt size, thread & materials. But in a shop situation that approach would not be wise no matter how skilled the mechanic. My other father was a sparky who taught us that every job was worth doing well, and that anyone could do an excellent job with focus and effort. You demonstrate both.
First Petey didnt want to sing it.
But then you won his heart, and the song of Petey flowed forth. Nice work.
Stay gold.
Like Charles Kuralt use to say….Everyone has a story.
How did you get the upper part of the oil pick-up back in after installing the upper pan? You didn’t show it and I was wondering how you were going to get it in and tight.
I have been watching your videos for some time now, and it occurred to me just tonight that you sound like Jeff Goldblum!
Someone must have dropped the transmission in order to smear that RTV onto the back of the oil pan. That seems like a lot of work to do for some operation which any mechanic or technician would know could not fix anything.
Edit: I posted this just before you mentioned removing the transmission.
